Always Look On The Bright Side of Life
(Originally posted December 3rd, 2009)
Since Monty Python has been one source of some warped discussions lately , there’s no better song for the Apocalypse! So here you go, the perfect song to die by, “Always Look On The Bright Side of Life.”
———————————————————
Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
Don’t grumble, give a whistle
And this’ll help things turn out for the best…
And…always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the light side of life…
There’s something you’ve forgotten
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
Don’t be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle – that’s the thing.
And…always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the light side of life…
And death’s the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin – give the audience a grin
Enjoy it – it’s your last chance anyhow.
Just before you draw your terminal breath
Â
Life’s a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life’s a laugh and death’s a joke, it’s true.
You’ll see it’s all a show
Keep ’em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
Always look on the right side of life…
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life…
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life…
(I mean – what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing – you’re going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life…

For the record, and I’m not kidding, I’ve sung this song everytime I’ve been told during layoffs I don’t have a job anymore. One meeting was in a small auditorium and I got a small sing along going.
This is so wonderfully awesome. And you made me whistle. Thank you.
Love the picture choices to go along with the lyrics! 😀
Hahahahah…you chose the perfect pictures, as always. Perhaps this should be the hellatus anthem? Yes..it shall.. *sings*
Laugh! Great job Alice. I love it. And wonderful attitude towards the lay off. Something good will come around. 🙂
That was cool. 😀
This is the ultimate doom’s day song – no kidding, I’ve been singing it every time when something uncomfortable or bad happens… You can even sing it when tears are streaming down your face, the key will slightly change, though.
I’m dancing on a table right now – love this! L-O-V-E this!
Thanks, you made my morning (I’ll be dealing with pre-weekend-patient-calamities, only they are too sick to be appreciative of such a song…)
Love Jas
Yey! Brilliant song. The kids sing it all the time, too … Perhaps it should be the theme music for S6. 😆 😆 😆
Hi Alice
Thanks so much…I have loved that song since the first time I saw Life of Brian in the theaters.
I’m not disclosing when that was, it hurts the brain too much to remember that far back.
Anyways….as always a fantastic and funny article.
I don’t know about you but with all the light hearted comments and banter of late. I would say we’re doing a bang up job on getting through this Hellatus.
Maybe we should change it to the ‘Laughatus’ or ‘Funatus’.
A little too much eh?
Sorry just finish eleven straight nights of 12hr shifts…my brain is a bit mushy right now.
The People’s Front of Judea would approve! The Judean People’s Front, not so much. 😎
The smiles!!! 😀
Shallow, sorry… 😉
Monty Python FTW!
Laughing my head off, thanks for that, I really needed it 😆
Really, how bad can your life possibly be compared to a … WINCHESTER? 😆
Alice, this is awesome! It really made my day at work today, I have to say.
I think Kripke needs to do a Monty Python shout-out and have a Holy Hand Grenade in the trunk of the Impala. Then again, maybe not because that would just about make me die and go to heaven. Or join the choir invisible.
Karen, get out of my mind! You wonderfully sum it up – this doesn’t feel like ‘hellatus’ at all, as we’re having so much fun here. For me, watching the seasons in order with my friend I introduced to the show even more diminishes the pains of hiatus, and reading what we all have to say here, and writing and commenting is so much fun that time just flies… We are indeed, as Ardeospina said in another comment, a ‘great group of people’. (and here I’m committing a moral mistake – over here (I live in Germany at present) blowing your own trumpet, or – I should rather say: acknowledging your own achievements – is considered to be bad taste. But, to my mind, it’s quite necessary to sometimes do exactly that.)
Hellatus? CW-executives, ite domum! Hail everyone, Jas
Randal, but I thought, we were the popular front….? 😮
Alice…great song and screencaps. I love the boys wrestling.
Jas and Karen, you took the words out of my mouth. This hellatus it really kind of fun. Even though we don’t have new episodes, we have new articles and POV that are really fun to read and write. It really keeps the show alive for me. Love the banter too…
Randal, I think you should be the banter king…after all; you really are a trouble maker. 😀 😀
Keep up the good work people!
Alice you rock yet again. This was so funny (esp. the “worst things happen at sea” with the ghost ship, big ass LOL on that one).
And Monty Pythons, I *love* them, the movies and the tv show. My fave is the Search of the Holy Grail and the one with pantomime horses and the dead parrot skit, and the cheese store and the bicycle trip to the country bit, and and…oh screw it, their all my faves 🙂
Thank you for making me look on the bright side of life…SPLITTER! 😉
thanks!!! this totally made my day…. I remember this… it was when I had just discovered supernatural … my,my… well thanks a lot for this one.
That’s just wonderful, Alice, and you could’t have chosen better pictures. Those brought back a lot of pleasant memories all by themselves.
Oh, thank you so much! I love Monty Python, I always quote “Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition”! Most people look at me like I’m crazy, but my friends are in the know. Loved “Life of Brian”, I saw it when it first came out, yes I am that old! It felt good to look at that and smile.
Hi Alice,
FABULOUS!
You plus the antics of the Winchesters plus the crazy comedy of Monty Python equal genius.
It’s a brilliant song with great illustrations.
I think an amazing meta would be to do the whole show a la Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Dean could do The Minister of Silly Walks. Sam could try to buy cheese at the cheese shop. The dead parrot, which is pushing up the daisies, could be possessed. Or a zombie. Zombie parrots!!! The Impala would be pining for the fjords. And the end scene would be the boys singing the Lumberjack song.
Oh, I’m having fun in my own mental flying circus now!
Thanks for doing this. It’s creating lots of smiles, so I hope it throws some good karma back your way.
Pragmatic Dreamer 😀 😆
Oh yes, Sam doing the lumberjack song! Wasn’t that one of Crowley’s names for him?
For anyone wishing to sing and dance along. Now for true authenticity you’d need to be tied to a cross while singing but we won’t worry about that minor detail.

Thanks Alice, genuinely.
I love this video! I was just scrolling to see if anyone had beaten me to posting it here. Excellent vid, Tim!
Alice: great article, too. Definately a smile or two born from a read!
Very nicely done, Tim. 🙂
Thanks, I needed a good laugh on this very drab day.
Alice,
Thanks for the article. I must confess that I am not a Monty Python fan and so was not familiar with the song. Your pics wonderfully illustrate the song.It is a hoot. 😆
It is too bad that you had those occasions (layoffs)to sing it.
Thanks for the video, Tim. I had no idea of the tune.
