Supernatural: The Complete Series and Fifteenth Season to be Released on DVD May 25th
New episodes of Supernatural may be over, but the legacy of the series continues in wonderful new ways. On Tuesday, May 25th, another milestone of the series hits. Presenting, the release of “Supernatural: The Complete Series.”
Warner Brothers managed to sum up in the entire series in one clever tagline – Good Times, Bad Times, End Times. Sam, Dean and Baby riding off into the sunset. Just perfect.
This isn’t just your ordinary DVD release. This is the whole kit and caboodle, the ENTIRE franchise in one set. It isn’t just 327 episodes. It’s all the bonus stuff. The Comic-Con panels, the deleted scenes, the special segments, THE GAG REELS! All of them in one set. It’s as close to “Supernatural Gag Reel: The Movie” that fans will get.
This set has 13,716 minutes of episodes, 3226 minutes of extra content and 164 minutes on the enclosed Season Fifteen Bonus Disc. That is a binge watch on steroids. For those that hate math, that’s a combined total of 17106 minutes, 285.10 hours, or 11.88 days (that’s all with no sleep, no pee breaks folks). No wonder Supernatural holds the title of the longest running genre series in U.S. television history. In your face, Smallville!
(On a side note – I wonder if there’s a Guinness World Record for quickest time viewing the entire “Supernatural” series? A couple summers ago The Winchester Family Business was part of a series rewatch that took months! I’m certain that exercise didn’t count gag reels and all the other fun stuff.)
This is an impressively packaged set given how much material is on there. I received a copy of the Blu-Ray set from Warner Home Video and that has 58 discs. The DVD set has a whopping 86 discs. Inside the set is a special 68 page Collectible Book that lists all 327 episodes with synopsis by season, has plenty of pretty images (we do love the pretty in Supernatural), a couple pages of set designs (MOL bunker for the win!) and letters to the #SPNFamily from series creator Eric Kripke and series long executive producer Robert Singer (love you guys!). I mean, just seeing the evolution of Sam Winchester’s hair through the seasons makes this book wildly entertaining. Remember the season seven sideburns?
I just love the fact that I have all this one set now rather than having to search through a jam packed full video cabinet for the one particular season I want to watch next. It’s usually the last one, behind the old copies of the original Star Wars trilogy (no George Lucas bonus cuts!). But what’s really awesome is that the Blu-Ray sets come with a digital code too that lets you access all the episodes on your computer for portable viewing from Vudu or Movies Anywhere. You have until 6/30/2022 to redeem. I’ll probably do that far sooner because I camp a lot and I have a lot of reviews to catch up on!
Tuesday May 25th isn’t just the release of the entire series though. It is also the release of the final season of Supernatural, season 15. Supernatural: The Fifteenth and Final Season contains the last 20 episodes of the series, including the epic yet very heartbreaking series finale, “Carry On.” This set contains in the extras the hour long retrospective that aired the night of the series finale, Supernatural: The Long Road Home. There are also three special segments, the 2019 Comic-Con Panel (I was there!), the clip they aired at Comic-Con about the Impala replica giveaway, “Winning Baby” (I sat next to Rick Blevins, the person who built that Impala at the panel too) and of course, GAG REEL!
This set is more digestible at 843 minutes of episodes and 179 minutes of enhanced content and comes in both Blu-Ray and DVD formats. So, for those of you that own the other 14 seasons on DVD, this might be the better package for you. But, if you’re like me and fell a bit behind in the DVD purchasing department (8 years behind), the Complete Series might be the better buy. The cost combined is far less than buying all the sets individually.
Where can you get these fine sets? Amazon is our choice, mostly because you get a nice discount from SRP and delivery is quick and easy, although you can also get it at several fine retailers or the Warner Brothers Home Entertainment website. I’m including the Amazon links below for your convenience.
We are pretty psyched about these releases here at the Winchester Family Business and will be taking some time between now and May 25th to remember some of our favorite episodes. Or perhaps some other stuff too. You never know what inspiration will strike us! For example, here’s a fun clip from Season 15 that has an awesome callback to season 1 (the bangs!).
For fun, here is the Warner Brothers Home Entertainment press release about these two sets, including suggested pricing and more detailed list of content.
