Mallena’s Musings: Supernatural 13.13 “Devil’s Bargain”
It’s not a good week for me, here in Supernatural-Land. Not only do I feel pretty meh about this week’s episode, I’ve also lost my notes for it. So, I’ve decided to do a summary of the season so far for my musings, plus a short review. I’m planning on finding my sanity later in the week. I know it’s around here somewhere.
Danneel Ackles is a lovely lady with three adorable children, not to mention – a hunky husband. I’ve seen many pictures of her on social media, but I’ve never heard her speak. It’s not the voice that I was expecting; it’s higher and a bit sex-kittenish. No offense to Danneel, that’s just what it sounds like to me.
I’m intrigued by her angel character and what she might do on Supernatural. I’m not a fan of the sexy way that she and Lucifer are sharing her grace. That isn’t necessary and just cringe-worthy, to me. I’m just glad that Jensen didn’t have to direct this episode. Ewww.
The first half of this story is slow moving. I do remember writing in my notes that Sam and Dean look almost as bored as I was feeling then. By the time the episode gets to Sister Jo, things do start to pick up. I’m turned off by the forming relationship between her and Lucifer, though.
Luci is interesting, here. I’m sensing depths to him that are refreshing to see, at this stage. Lucifer’s evil, childish, snarky, narcissistic, and unpredictable. I like the way that I’m guessing at his motivations – and his feelings – even if he has any feelings, besides bad ones.
I want a new prophet; I’m just bored to tears by Donatello. Kevin, Osric? Now that Dirk Gently has been cruelly cancelled, come back to us, please!
I actually like it when Ketch shows up. For some reason, his accent’s pleasant to hear, for me, and even his face looks nicer. Weird, huh? I’ve never liked him before. It seems that Ketch is meant to be an ally to the boys now. We’ll see.
The final reveal of Gabriel is fun, but only mildly surprising, given Supernatural’s propensity for bring back dead characters. Felicia Day is guest starring on Sera Gamble’s The Magicians next week. Maybe Charlie’s hovering around, somewhere. I do love Gabriel, so I’m looking forward to his future appearances.

I’m hoping the second half of this season is better than the first half. Bringing Jack back to the fold will be a great start. I’ve only enjoyed about half of the episodes, so far. Supernatural needs to pick up its game quite a bit. Though, when I see pictures of Danneel and Jensen’s children, I can’t imagine how they can stand to be away from them at all.
Instead of disliking everything about the show these days, I’m still trying to enjoy the good parts. Excuse me, but I need to get downstairs to the family room; my young adult son has the time to watch Supernatural with me. We’re on the first half of season four. It’s still amazing to watch, especially with someone that I love.
