Captain America knocked out Hitler — and this is SuperheroIRL, knocking out bullying, racism, misogyny, LGBTQIA-bullying, cyberbullying, and other forms of hate. Join Star Trek legend and civil rights icon Nichelle Nichols, Supernatural’s Genevieve Padalecki, Battlestar Galactica’s Aaron Douglas, Buffy’s Clare Kramer, and Surprise Guests for this intersection of fun and social justice, presented by Pop Culture Hero Coalition.
Panelists include Coalition Curriculum Director Carrie Goldman (Author, Bullied: What Every Parent, Teacher and Kid Needs to Know About Ending the Cycle of Fear) Dr. Andrea Letamendi (The Arkham Sessions), Dr. Janina Scarlet (Author, Superhero Therapy), Vanèe Matsalia (Black Girl Nerds) and UN Association San Diego President Bettina Hausmann. Coalition Founder Chase Masterson (Star Trek, The Flash) moderates.
The groundbreaking Coalition works to bring equality and social justice, ending bullying and discrimination in comic-cons, schools and communities. “We love superheroes,” says Masterson. “Why not be one?”
Pop Culture Hero Coalition is the first 501(c)(3) organization to use the phenomenal popularity of TV, film, comics and games for real-life heroism over bullying, racism, misogyny, cyber-bullying, LGBT-bullying, and other forms of hate. The groundbreaking Coalition was founded in 2013; Partners include UNESCO, the United Nations Association San Diego, the NOH8 Campaign, Geena Davis Institute for Gender in Media and Random Acts.
