Fan Video of the Week: Supernatural Reflections “The Raid”
“The stars shall fade away, the sun himself Grow dim with age, and nature sink in years, But thou shalt flourish in immortal youth, Unhurt amidst the wars of elements, The wrecks of matter, and the crush of worlds.” — Joseph Addison
In this article I will focus on two immortal things, both of them as magnificent as they can be (although it seems The Colt wasn’t that immortal after all! TBC).
The Alpha Vampire had such a presence in Supernatural that it really felt we got to see him a lot even though that is really not the case. Also with such a charismatic character it felt like we lost him too soon. I would have loved to see him more. Rick Worthy brought such menace and charisma to the character. He also belongs with those characters who had a pretty cool and creepy introduction on the show. I think it was one of the best.
What can I say about the Colt that many many! fans haven’t already said? It is awesome by any standards and has a long history. Like Baby, it is a character of its own. It also belongs to the Winchesters so I hope it will be in their hands at a later date.
Alpha Vampire (Rick Worthy)
When your kind first huddled around the fire, I was the thing in the dark. Now you think you can hurt me?
– Alpha Vampire, 6.07 “Family Matters”
We were given a small introduction to the Alpha Vampire in season six, episode five. The next time we saw him, he was captive but in no way a prisoner. The Alpha Vampire always seemed to have the advantage on the Winchesters even though he didn’t – even before he died. He was the creepiest in season seven when he caught the Winchesters and we found out his “appetite” or a kink. Brrrrrrr… He was in episodes 6.05 “Live Free or Twihard”, 6.07 “Family Matters”, 7.22 “There Will Be Blood” and 12.14 “The Raid”.
The Colt
Back in 1835, when Halley’s Comet was overhead, same night those men died at the Alamo, they say Samuel Colt made a gun. A special gun. He made it for a hunter. A man like us, only on horseback. Story goes, he made thirteen bullets. This hunter used the gun a half dozen times before he disappeared, the gun along with him… Somehow Daniel got his hands on it. They say… they say this gun can kill anything. – John Winchester, 1.20 “Dead Man’s Blood”
Colt Gun
Invented by Samuel Colt, a gun named after its inventor “Colt”, and after its revolving cylinder. Before the Colt revolver, only one and two-barrel flintlock pistols had been invented for hand held use. Colt revolvers were all based on cap-and-ball technology until the Smith and Wesson license on the bored-through cylinder (bought from Rollin White) expired around 1869. – Pad of Definitions (1.20 “Dead Man’s Blood”), Official Website
The original bullets of the Colt are engraved with numbers and a cross appears on the last original bullet for The Colt. If you wonder on which episodes The Colt has been used here they are: 6.18 “Frontierland”, 1.20 “Dead Man’s Blood”, 1.21 “Salvation”, 1.22 “Devil’s Trap”, 2.22 “All Hell Breaks Loose: Part Two”, 3.04 “Sin City”, 3.05 “Bedtime Stories”, 3.07 “Fresh Blood”, 3.09 “Malleus Maleficarum”, 3.10 “Dream a Little Dream of Me”, 3.15 “Time Is on My Side”, 5.09 “The Real Ghostbusters”, 5.10 “Abandon All Hope…”, 12.14 “The Raid”, 12.17 “The British Invasion”, 12.18 “The Memory Remains” and 12.19 “The Future”.

Whoa, oh, oh
Whoa, oh, oh
Whoa, oh, oh
Whoa
I’m waking up to ash and dust
I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust
I’m breathing in the chemicals
[Inhale, exhale]
I’m breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus
This is it, the apocalypse
Whoa oh
I’m waking up, I feel it in my bones
Enough to make my system blow
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I’m radioactive, radioactive
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I’m radioactive, radioactive
I raise my flag and dye my clothes
It’s a revolution, I suppose
We’re painted red to fit right in
Whoa oh
I’m breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus
This is it, the apocalypse
Whoa oh
I’m waking up, I feel it in my bones
Enough to make my system blow
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I’m radioactive, radioactive
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I’m radioactive, radioactive
All systems go, the sun hasn’t died
Deep in my bones, straight from inside
I’m waking up, I feel it in my bones
Enough to make my system blow
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I’m radioactive, radioactive
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I’m radioactive, radioactive
Imagine Dragons is an American rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada, consisting of lead vocalist Dan Reynolds, lead guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist and keyboardist Ben McKee, and drummer Daniel Platzman. The band first gained exposure in 2012 with the releases of their debut studio album Night Visions and its first single “It’s Time”. Billboard placed them at the top of their “Year In Rock” rankings for 2013, and named them their “Breakthrough Band of 2013”. Rolling Stone named their single “Radioactive” from Night Visions the “biggest rock hit of the year”, and MTV called them “the year’s biggest breakout band”. Night Visions peaked at number two on the weekly US Billboard 200 chart and the UK Albums Chart. The band’s second studio album Smoke + Mirrors was released in 2015, and reached number one in the US, Canada and the UK. After touring for their sophomore record, the band took a brief hiatus to focus on their personal lives. During the latter half of 2016, they began recording their third studio album, Evolve, released in 2017. While all three albums were commercially successful, critical reception was mixed.
Imagine Dragons has won two American Music Awards for Favorite Alternative Artist, a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance, five Billboard Music Awards, and a World Music Award. In May 2014, the band was nominated for a total of fourteen different Billboard Music Awards, including Top Artist of the Year and a Milestone Award, which recognizes innovation and creativity of artists across different genres. Imagine Dragons have sold 9 million albums and 27 million singles worldwide.
Quotes
Mary: I’m doing this for you. I’m playing three decades of catch up here.
Dean: And we’re not? How do you think this has been for us? We’re your sons, and you’ve been gone. Our whole lives, you’ve been gone. You said that you needed time. No, you said you need space. So we gave you your space. But you didn’t need just space. No, you needed space from us.
Mary: That’s not true. Dean, I’m trying-
Dean: How ’bout for once you just try and be a mom?
Mary: I am your mother, but I am not “just a mom.” And you are not a child.
Dean: I never was. So between us and them-
Mary: It’s not like that.
Dean: Yeah, Mary, it is. And you made your choice. So there’s the door.
Alpha Vampire: That gun can’t save all of you.
Sam: Who said I was here to save all of us? My family and I, we kill vamps when they get out of line. And you’ve let us.
Alpha Vampire: I have many children, Sam. What’s one, two, here or there?
Sam: Exactly. So? Let my mom and me go. We’ll walk away, go back to the way things were, to the way things are supposed to be. Hunters and vampires, cops and robbers, a fair fight.
Dean: When I thought something might’ve happened to you, nothing else mattered.
Mary: Dean, the things I said-
Dean: No, Mom, you were… It’s not your job to make my lunch and… kiss me goodnight. It’s- We’re adults. You’re gonna make your own choices, even if I don’t like ’em. Even if I really, really don’t like ’em. That’s just something I’m gonna have to get used to. Okay, Mom?

References and Minutiae
“The Raid” is a reference to the 2011 Indonesia martial arts film of the same name, about a police force sent to raid an apartment complex run by a criminal.
Sam: Yeah, um, you know, I dig the whole low-budget Mission: Impossible vibe, but I’m gonna head back.
Sam could be referring to the series of spy movies or to the TV series the movies are based on that aired from 1966-1973.
The bottom left corner of the article that Dean found states “Denver Police continue to investigate the homicide, Café Elta remains closed to the public.” Café Elta was the name of the café where Rowena was recruiting witches from the Grand Coven into her own “Mega Coven” in 11.03 The Bad Seed. Elta is the first name of Danneel Ackles.
Pierce Moncrieff is wearing a shirt for Guidry’s Cajun Café, the same place Benny Lafitte worked at in 8.09 Citizen Fang.
