UPDATED With Transcript of Andrew Dabb Interview: Supernatural Spoilers from SDCC TV Guide Article

“TV Guide: Even for Supernatural, the season finale was dark: shocking deaths, disappearances, a hellish alternate Earth. Will next season be close to a reboot?
Dabb: Yes. I’m not sure we’ve had a finale that has the body count and kind of ramifications that this one had. The Lucifer story became a setup for what we want to explore in Season 13. We’ve delved into alternate realities before, but we’re taking it to an extreme.
TVG: What are some o f those explorations?
Dabb: What does it mean that Jack (Alexander Calvert) is Lucifer’s kid and Mary and Lucifer are together in the alt Apocalypse World? Plus Castiel, Crowley and Rowena all appear to be dead. That’s fertile ground for next season.
TVG: Are these beloved characters really dead and gone?
Dabb: No one’s ever really dead on Supernatural, but I’m not saying that any of them will necessarily be back – at least for a while.
TVG: Sam and Dean must care for the motherless Jack. Are they intent on siphoning his angel grace to make the incredibly powerful Nephilim more human?
Dabb: That’s the question, but if they [do], he’ll lose his power and be unable to open the door to get Mary back. The guys may have some conflict over that.
TVG: Will we quickly learn whether Jack is evil like his father?
Dabb: He had an evil source, but he’s a blank slate. It’s a nature-nurture thing. If Season 12 was about children coming to ter ms with their moms as adults, then Season 13 is very much about Sam and Dean as parents.
TVG: Castiel had a vision of paradise that he believed Lucifer’s child would bring about. This being Supernatural, was he lying to comfort Jack’s mother, Kelly?
Dabb: Cas believed it, but was it the unborn kid showing Cas what he wanted to see? Like you said, this is Supernatural.
TVG: The Apocalypse World that Lucifer and Mary are trapped in is anything but paradise. On the other hand, long-dead family friend Bobby Singer is there as a hunter!
Dabb: The fun thing about the alternative Earth is that it allows us to bring back a lot of characters in ways that are not pure. Every other Supernatural character could theoretically have an entirely new life there. We’re going to have a war zone unlike anything we’ve seen.
TVG: If Sam and Dean try to get their mother back from that world, Lucifer could be back too, yes?
Dabb: Yes. There are a lot of other big pla yers too, like Archangel Michael, who could be more evil than what we’ve already seen.”
