Fan Video of the Week: Supernatural Reflections, “Hell’s Angel” – AKF Edition

I got to hand it to you. It took some time to think about the subject of the fan video of this week. It was not like there wasn’t a lot happening in the episode. Far from it but it wasn’t until my friend wrote her Thinky Thoughts it dawned on me. It connected nicely to the AKF easter egg that was on the last episode. Depression and how it effects the ones that are close to you and how they all should keep fighting against it. How Castiel is now is also how “Love yourself first” connects to it. Sam’s and Dean’s voice are not reaching him even though they are his family. The ones that matter to him more than anything can’t do anything to help him because he doesn’t think he matters.

The notion of a “Chosen One” was mentioned. I’m kind of leaning towards it being Cas. I have no doubt that Sam and Dean will defeat Amara, but I think perhaps that Cas will be the sacrifice in order to do so. I think that little talk the boys were having at the end might be foreshadowing Cas’ ultimate decision and they’re need to respect it. That of course is just my little theory.

Friendship like family is a relationship that can survive the test of time and remain unconditional. For most people it is a combination of affection, loyalty, love, respect, and trust. To be there for the good and the bad. Helping with mistakes you have made even if you disagree with something. Sam and Dean are doing just that with Cas but he needs to do his part. At the moment he is not. He is only waiting for the slaughter because he thinks he is not good for anything else. His depression is clear. He is hiding and has lost himself into redundant tv shows. But we do see a light at the end of the tunnel. He still values his family’s suggestions but his mindset needs to change that he understands them.

Depression symptoms and warning signs

Some people describe depression as “living in a black hole” or having a feeling of impending doom. However, some depressed people don’t feel sad at all—they may feel lifeless, empty, and apathetic, or men in particular may even feel angry, aggressive, and restless.

Whatever the symptoms, depression is different from normal sadness in that it engulfs your day-to-day life, interfering with your ability to work, study, eat, sleep, and have fun. The feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, and worthlessness are intense and unrelenting, with little, if any, relief.

I can identify with Cas choosing TV to lose himself and escape. When I was long time unemployed I hid in a similar thing to not to think how bad things were getting or how long that would continue. It was my way to survive that time. My friends and family were there but I did not want to “bother” them about my mindset nor to talk about it. That was years ago though and only recently I have been reminded about that situation again. This time it has been TV shows and work that has helped me through being stuck inside four walls after my accident. I don’t know if the professionals would say it is healthy but in both cases these things have helped me cope with also the help of family and friends. And it also spared them taking a bit of the burden. People have different ways to cope things.

BUT, Cas is further in the rabbit hole in his situation. Hiding from his thoughts and hardly noticing the situation around him or that he has given up. He doesn’t listen Sam nor Dean and he needs to be shaken awake from his mindset or he will indeed eventually fail that has been his greatest fear all along.

That is why I chose this video too. The fight song is fitting for Castiel and for Dean and Sam because they need to always keep fighting and they are not alone. They have each other. The editing is great on the video. It matches the characters to the part of the song and all three characters have their parts to fight back. I think all three will have prominent roles in the season finale.
