Nielsen To Change What It Measures For Social Content Ratings. Will it Affect Supernatural?
Nielsen announced that it will soon measure total program related conversation across Twitter and Facebook.
The announcement is here.
The WFB live tweets all new Supernatural episodes and we’ve been a BIG supporter of tagging all tweets so Supernatural ranks in the Top 5 of Niesen’s Social Media Ratings. We’re constantly reminding the SPNFamily to tag! Is there a lot of discussion of Supernatural on Facebook during the live air time, though?
How much do you, as a WFB reader, discuss Supernatural on Facebook versus on this site? Do you learn about our articles and Supernatural news from Facebook (or Twitter) or from coming onto our site? Let us know in the comments.
I think it will help. I see a lot of posts about a Supernatural on Facebook.
Facebook is great for Supernatural articles and twitter I think you have to be following the right Facebook page though Like I follow you guys on both accounts I also follow fangasm and any I can find. Although I do come here to verify everything. It could be good if SPN fans know this is to happen because I feel that people will see how many fans and supporters are out there it would explode the Nielson polls
Also do you know whether they take in other parts of the world. They wouldn’t get a accurate idea, because it is shown at so many different days and times around the world. A lot of Aussie fans try too avoid any comments because they havn’t seen the episode yet. And when we see it we all comment and get involved — this could be up to a week later
I try to live tweet during the east coast feed of episodes. It is quick and easy unless I get so caught up in the episode. usualy tweet during commercials with commentary on more than plot.
I didn’t know where to post this. I think this might have an impact on Supernatural possibly the rest of this season and certainly if there is a S12 next season.
http://tvline.com/2016/01/29/pilot-cw-frequency/ Looks like Jeremy Carver has a new show.
I saw this as well. Supernatural might have a new showrunner next year. I won’t miss JC.
We’ve all wondered what going on in the writers room this year. The show has been so balanced, with POV from both brothers… Now we have the answer. Jeremy Carver was MIA, working on the new show.
I tend to think it has more to do with Singer and Glass are both gone (after AG’s last episode all of a sudden Sam had a story and the pace really picked up). I’ve noticed with the addition of Nancy Won and last night Shoshannah Stern Carver has been bringing in people that he wants to be on the show. This is the first year that the show has been all his. With Dabb as the head writer the collaboration seems to be working really well. Now that looks like it might be over and a new show runner might come in and shake everything up again. The question is will Jared and Jensen be on board with a whole new team or will they just call it a day.
Carver’s been running the show since season 8. I have to assume he’s been making all the decisions since then. I hope Andrew Dabb takes over as showrunner. I can never forgive Carver for the year of the dog. That was all on him. And my opinion of him is tied up in that decision. I’m not going to be sorry to see him go.
The J’s haven’t re-signed. You may be right that their decision will be based on who will run things going forward.
Carver has been second billed as exec producer since S8 with Singer as the top billed exec producer just like he was when Sera Gamble was show runner. This is the first year he has been the sole show runner (if I’m not mistaken that anyone has been the sole show runner. Singer has always been billed as an exec producer from the begining). Ever since AG stepped down last year and now this year with Carver finally on his own the pace and story lines have been much tighter, with both brothers in the fore front. I suppose though if Carver gets the blame he should also get the credit. He hasn’t stepped down from the show yet. The only thing that has changed is that now he is the sole show runner. It isn’t Andrew Dabbs show. He does as he is told and all of his scripts are run through Carver only now. Just like any writer on the show.
I know you’re right about Glass and Singer. It’s logical. But, my puny little mind will always associate Carver with the dog. Didn’t Robbie also say that Carver squashed his idea of doing an ep showing what happened prior to the dog. I can’t help it – to me Carver = year of the dog. It’s just how I feel.
I do give credit for this season, which has been great. But maybe the reason it’s been great is because Carver hasn’t been hands on. It’s just how I feel. Singer has been around since Kripke and Adam since Sera. And I’ve never felt the story telling was losided during the Kripke or Sera years, like I have during the Carver years.
What is really interesting if you go to other sites you get the exact opposite complaint about Carver and his treatment of Dean. Most fans actually still love the show. It is still wildly popular all around the world. This show seems to have never been able to please all of it’s fans. Not even in the Kripke years. It just seems to be the nature of this show when there are fans that are dug into their favorite character and are personally hurt by any perceived slight against them. I would take that as a tribute to Jared and Jensen for their brilliant portrayal of these two iconic characters. Finally the show has gotten back to what brought us here. The brothers are on track with each other and it seems they are going to stay that way. I will give Carver the credit for that.
The only thing that I remember hearing about Robbie and the dog was that he said once would have loved to have written an episode for Sam before he hit that F***ing dog. As far as I know no one squashed his idea for a script.
As far as Jeremy Carver goes it’s his show now. You can bet he is on top of things more than ever. He wants the show to be as much of a success as the fans do. His reputation is at stake too if he wants to produce more shows. As was evidenced at SDCC Andrew Dabb is very much Carvers employee. He still has to please the boss. But I do think this is a fabulous collaboration between these two men. Whatever it is it’s working and I’m thrilled. I really don’t want to upset the applecart now.
I think Robbie said he pitched the idea of an episode that flashed back to that year but got shot down both times. Carver may have been the one to tell him no, but there is no way to know how the actual decision was made. Singer could have had a hand in putting the kibosh on the story, or Carver could have dug in his heels and decided that he didn’t want to do it. The writing quality has gone up this season, IMHO, so I tend to blame Singer more than Carver, but it could have been either or a combination of both.
It is hard to say what happened behind the scenes but it is interesting that now Singer is gone the issue has been dealt with in the course of two episodes by Dabb and Thompson. Maybe not to everyone’s satisfaction but it was dealt with.
Am I correct that in the run of the show there has never been just one show runner?
Sorry replied to wrong person
OK Cheryl, now I’m really worried. I’ve been thinking this whole season that there is an end of series vibe this year. So many loose ends are being tied up and there has been so much continuity and references to the plots from early seasons. It feels in many ways like we have come full circle back to the story Kripke told. Plus, they really are up against the biggest big bad ever, on a par with God for power. Where the heck can the story take them next season if they defeat the D, especially if God makes an appearance? I’ve been thinking all season that maybe the Js, especially Jared, has reached his limit for spending time away from family, since the kids are getting older. So maybe that has been secretly conveyed to TPTB, which would explain JC’s new gig. I hope I’m wrong about this and that JC is simply ready to move on. Because the alternate explanation is that this is his “apocalypse” and that, like Kripke, he’s going to tell the story he wants to tell and let the next show runner figure things out from there. And this is just my speculation, but possibly (hopefully) he is grooming Dabb as his successor, allowing him to take more control this season, and that is why this is far and away the best Carver season and the only one in which Sam has been treated as the co-equal star of the show IMO. I love JC’s writing, but not his plotting for the characters over the course of a whole season. IMO Dabb has never played favorites with the brothers, in fact I couldn’t tell you if he has a favorite brother, unlike RT and some others. So I would be ecstatic if he were to be next showrunner (please don’t let it be RT), especially if he is largely responsible for the amazing season we’ve been having so far. But I will be very nervous about there even being a next season until we read that the show has been renewed and the Js have signed contracts.
I think there is a good possibilty of a season 12 of course nothing is set in stone but I would be surprised if the guys do not sign. Of course it would not matter to me as much has season 9 was my Waterloo.
But having said that I think Dabb would be a decent showrunner if that came to be the case .
There are a lot of contingencies here. IF the show actually goes to series, ordering a pilot doesn’t mean it will get picked up, then Carver could executive produce more than one show. Greg Berlanti does with the various DC Comics shows. It might mean that he drops writing episodes for the show, but he only does two a season now. Or he could leave and someone on staff could take over. That would mean a switch in the perspective of the show, but that could go either way, better or worse. I think we will get 12 seasons minimum, mostly because I can’t see the CW missing out on promoting “The final season for an epic show”. The publicity value of that would be hard to ignore. Many shows have their final season go up in ratings once it’s been made clear that it is the final season. Basically, I expect that when the series goes it will got out with a roar, not a whimper.
Andrew Dabb wrote the infamous backdoor Pilot Bloodlines. I don’t know the CW and SPN might think twice about having him step in as show runner. Having said that the show is in it’s last years (I do think we will get one more season) so they aren’t going to spend a whole bunch of money to bring in a top producer. Or at least I would be surprised if they did. And Carver could run both shows since he is listed as just one of the producers and is penning the pilot.
Originally Frequency was being shopped to NBC. There is no guarantee that the CW will pick it up either, but it does sound likely. I guess we will find out in May who all has signed on to SPN. Even the J’s haven’t renewed their contacts yet. But I would be very surprised if this is the last season. I would think there would have been a lot more fanfare about it.
