The CW Upfronts – What Was Said and Done
Meet Supernatural’s new companions on Friday night.
For those of you again who aren’t savvy with Twitter and wonder what was being said at today’s CW upfront presentation, here are the highlights:
First, the schedule! No big surprises, especially with Supernatural. It stays where it is, Fridays at 9pm, following Nikita at 8pm. Gossip Girl and 90210 are on different nights again, but I’m not sure that’s anything major.
MONDAY
8 pm Gossip Girl (New Time)
9 pm Hart of Dixie (New Series)
TUESDAY
8 pm 90210 (New Night)
9 pm Ringer (New Series)
WEDNESDAY
8 pm H8R (New Series)
9 pm America’s Next Top Model
THURSDAY
8 pm The Vampire Diaries
9 pm The Secret Circle (New Series)
FRIDAY
8 pm Nikita (New Night)
9 pm Supernatural
Since the press release is rather spoilery about the returning fall shows I won’t share it here. For those of you still curious, I suggest you go to our Spoiler Page for the info about Supernatural. I don’t think it gives away the farm, but it’s spoilery.
There are two interesting things I noticed in the press release though about Supernatural. First, Misha Collins is again listed in the cast as a series regular, probably adding some relief to those worried about his status, and Eric Kripke and Ben Edlund are noticeably absent from the Executive Producers list. That could be a typo, or it could mean their roles are being scaled back to a consulting capacity. More to come on that.
In other news, as anticipated, this will be One Tree Hill’s last season and will be back midseason. By midseason, that means filling in repeats gaps for Gossip Girl, 90210, or America’s Next Top Model or covering for a failed show. Out of all the blurbs I read announcing this, I liked the take from TV By The Numbers the best:
It’s being reported on Twitter that promos for the new CW fall shows will begin airing tonight during the encore showing of the Smallville series finale. Kind of fitting, huh? Previewing the new with a retiring show? Yeah, I give the irony a bit ole “meh†myself. I’m sure those previews will run during tomorrow’s Supernatural finale as well considering that’s the last finale to air for the network this season.
Apparently Nina Dobrev of The Vampire Diaries and Maggie Q of Nikita looked great in their dresses. Paul (Wesley), Ian (Somerhandler), and Shane (West) looked great too. You see, you even get the fashion and society report from me! I’m all about catering to the masses.

Alice Jester is the founder, editor-in-chief, head writer, programmer, web designer, site administrator, marketer, and moderator for The Winchester Family Business. She is a 30 year IT applications and database expert with a penchant for creative and freelance writing in her spare (ha!!) time. That’s on top of being a wife, mother of two active kids, and four loving (aka needy) pets.
I noticed that Eric Kripke and Ben Edlund’s names were missing from the series recap information this morning. I thought maybe CW’s publicity dept. had messed up with this over sight. I seem to recall that I recently read that Kripke was going to be more involved with Supernatural next year, not like this past one, maybe even directing an episode. His home family life was getting less demanding. As for Ben, I haven’t read anything that stated he was leaving the show nor has he hinted at that in any recent interviews.
I was not surprised by the schedule, actually. It went pretty close to how I expected.
As for Kripke and Edlund being left out, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. I’d be stunned if either were leaving the show all together.
It is good news about Misha, but what about Jim Beaver?? I know he was considered a guest star for the majority of his appearances this season. I suppose we’ll find out tomorrow night what’s what and all that jazz.
SPN WITHOUT BEN EDLUND???? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! ok, ok so I’m hitting the panic button way too soon without nearly enough reliable info but I can’t help my Edlund worship, the mere idea is giving me palpitations…
