Get Ready for Supernatural Star Misha Collins’s GISHWHES 2015
It’s almost time for the Misha Collins’ 2015 Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen (G.I.S.H.W.H.E.S.)
GISHWHES will run from August 1-8 this year. What is GISHWHES? From the GISHWHES site
g.i.s.h.w.h.e.s. (which stands for the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen) is a 5-time Guinness World Record breaking scavenger hunt hosted by Misha Collins that you can compete in from anywhere in the world (even from your own home!).
Thousands of participants from more than 100 countries build their own teams with friends or are placed on 15-person teams (of new friends!) and for one week, through laughter, sweat and tears (of joy of course), they acquire Items on a fun, inspiring and sometimes jaw-dropping scavenger hunt list. The team that scavenges the most items with the highest quality of submissions joins Misha Collins on an all-expenses paid trip to an exotic locale. All the other teams walk away with a heightened perspective on their capabilities, and memories of an amazing week. Prior Winners journeyed to Rome, a haunted castle in Scotland, an island off the coast of British Columbia, and a pirate ship in Croatia. This year the Winning Team will be joining Misha Collins and his favorite Spider Monkey in Costa Rica for volcanos, rainforests and gishwhes-style discotecking (we’re not sure what this is, but pictures will be posted!).

In short, Gishwhes (Greatest Internet Scavenger Hunt The World Has Ever Seen) gives teams of up to 15 people one week to do as many items as possible from a list compiled by Collins. Those items [range] from the near impossible to the mundane but totally weird. Last year 14,000 people participated. This will be the 7th Annual GISHWHES. It has broken several Guinness World Records during those years includingthe most charitable pledges worldwide” and, just as important, “the most individuals dressed as French Maids in one location.”

The event was inspired by Collins’s undergrad career at The University of Chicago and its annual event, Scav Hunt, which he calls “hands-down the highlight of the year.” He said he searched for a great hunt as an adult, but never found one as involved as his undergrad adventuring, which had some distinctly memorable moments for him.
In an interview with Zap2It Misha said
“I have this fantasy that someday G.I.S.H.W.H.E.S. will be a national holiday, or at the very least that the roads will be really quiet during G.I.S.H.W.H.E.S. because everyone is at home trying to make the stuff,” Collins tells Zap2it. “I want some actual national impact from the hunt, or people plan their vacation around it. ‘No, I can’t go that week because I have G.I.S.H.W.H.E.S.’”
Access Hollywood talked to Misha about Pulling Double Duty With GISHWHES And Supernatural
Through running GISHWHES, Misha has been able to donate proceeds from the scavenger hunt to his non-profit organization, Random Acts. This year, the actor is hoping, through Random Acts, to help fund the building of a school in an impoverished country.

This. This is truly a truly incredible thing that he has put together. To educate while entertaining. To combine the efforts and awareness of the many to help the few. To make a positive change in this world. Congratulations Misha on another year of craziness. May there be many, many more.
