Spoiler on Supernatural Episode 11.12
EW has some information on episode 11.12.
EW has learned exclusively that Kim Rhodes will be reprising her role as Sheriff Jody Mills in the twelfth episode of the season, titled, โDonโt You Forget About Me.โ As Supernatural showrunner Jeremy Carver put it, โSheriff Mills, whoโs taken in Claire and Alex, has a case fall a bit too close to home.
Story here.
Are you glad to see Jody return? What kind of case is a bit too close to home? Let us know in the comments or in the discussion thread for episode 12.
Yes, I’m glad to see the return of Jodi. Her character is always good to see when she is involved with the story of the boys. I wish they kept Bobby around because Jodi really played well with him.
What kind of case is too close to home? A case that is the type that involves Claire and Alex and some teenage, possible school issue. I hope it does not turn into a whiny domestic, or a super ninja girl case. I know some of you want that spinoff of Jodi and her wayward girls, seeing Jodi being a good mom, a tough role model and the girls developing into fine young hunter women under her careful eye. I do too; so I don’t have to watch it on SPN. For me it the wrong material and boring. Bright spot is that Nancy Won is writing so I will remain open. Hopeful thought: Amara who has a soft spot for abused teenagers will suck out the souls of Claire and Alex!
I liked Alex, but I can’t agree more with you about Claire ๐

Hah! That made me laugh, and I couldn’t agree more. Alex was OK in her ep, and Claire was tolerable in her 3rd ep, but I would be quite happy to never revisit their stories again. Teen drama and angst is the LAST thing I want to see on SPN, and super teenage ninja hunter girls would be even more awful. The Krissy eps were two of my least favorite eps, and the second one is one of the very few eps that I have zero interest in ever watching again. Honestly, I don’t even like the way Jody has been written and portrayed in her last two eps. I liked Jody the tough, competent hunter who was also struggling to come to terms with all of the crap that has happened to her, and the Jody who has taken an almost motherly interest in and affection for the brothers. Jody as an actual “mom” has been much less interesting, and oddly enough has also made her seem less friendly and sympathetic to the brothers. I did not enjoy her dynamic with them very much in her last two appearances. So I actually have very low expectations for this ep, but I’m hoping to be pleasantly surprised since the season has been outstanding so far.

I agree. Remember 7.12 Time After Time, right after Bobby died and she along with the boys were sad. She was learning, working with and developing a warm relationship with Sam.

I agree. In the last episodes she is more business like and she seemed to have lost the personal relationship she shared with the brothers.

I loved the dynamic between Sam and Jody in that episode. I thought that maybe they were finally allowing Sam to have a special bond with another character, the way Dean had with so many recurring characters. But they didn’t do anything to develop that until S9 in Rock and A Hard Place, when Sam and Jody again had some nice personal conversations. So silly me, I thought that “Sam has a special friend finally!” Nope. The next time we see Jody she adopts Alex, and IMO neither her character nor her relationship with the brothers has been the same since.
I agree with spnlit, maybe if there is a spinoff of tough hunter mom Jodi and her two teenage hunter protege kids we won’t have to watch it on SPN. I’ve loved Jodi since she was introduced, but without her connection to Bobby, she’s not been as fun or as useful. Another reason why killing off Bobby was the dumbest thing ever. The boys could be going to Bobby and Jodi’s house now if they hadn’t made that fateful decision. Humph.
I agree she has not been as fun, useful or interesting. I do think that is because she is no longer in the personal story of Sam and Dean but rather relegated to her own story and MOM mode. I do not watch SPN to watch her be a working mom (attending Sheriff training and balancing calls to reprimand teen Alex who was home alone).
he boys could be going to Bobby and Jodi’s house now if they hadn’t made that fateful decision.
That would have been awesome.
Yes, and because Dean has always been Bobby’s favorite, it would have been nice for Sam to get some special attention too and would have made trips to North Dakota even more special and interesting. I think you’ve hit it on the head; Jodi is no longer “in the personal story of Sam and Dean.” She has her own life and her own things to worry and think about. Any intensity of feeling that she had for the boys has been transferred to Alex and Claire. Zzzzzzz. Maybe they are laying the ground work for a spinoff and that’s fine. If I never have to watch Claire again I guess that would be an improvement, but I will really miss that tough woman who was there for the boys. That seems to be the problem with almost any recurring character on this show (with the exception of Bobby). Whenever these characters are introduced, whoever wrote them seems to feel compelled to develop them to the point that they are no longer an extension of Sam and Dean…. and unfortunately on a show about Sam and Dean this doesn’t work. Jodi, Garth, Charlie are the three that come to mind that are prime examples of this. Their personal lives grew beyond the Winchesters and each character was ruined as a result. Jodi’s on the edge as far as I’m concerned….the more she gets wrapped up in things that have nothing to do with the Winchesters the less interesting she becomes. Basically the show is about Sam and Dean and all peripheral characters need to either work for them or against them, but be focused only on them. That’s why Bobby worked for so long. He had some elements of his own life that we got to see details of, but he never really functioned as a character aside from Sam and Dean, he was always there for them. The more they round out Jodi’s world and life the less interesting she becomes to the Winchesters and to me.

I agree. It is how the show works and has lasted this long. A bit of back story for the characters is fine but not whole episodes that have nothing to do with Sam and Dean and the current myth arc destroys the dynamic. This show is also about epic, transcending issues that touch on philosophy, religion, theology, psychology, mysticism. This is a horror/ science fiction story. When they take Sam and Dean out of the equation or make them peripheral characters and send some other supporting character on a domestic life situation the soul of the show is lost. It becomes an every day drama that can be found anywhere. Garth for instance was a likable goofy hunter in the Sam and Dean world now he is lost to every day domestic life, albeit with the werewolf twist. Crowley is boring when all he is doing is being bored with every day business corporate management of hell or annoyed and struggling with the mommy issues. (Fergus being a neglected fat child). They even domesticated the Crowley/ Amara connection. Amara was a powerful entity that Crowley could have tapped into but instead he is reading a self help book about why the average human teenage girl has issues and he is grounding her. Cas is interesting when he is a powerful angel, making moral decisions changing the natural order. But then they turned him into Claire’s Dad, not an angel taking responsibility but her actual Dad whining about how he can’t talk with her and Sam and Dean have to help with this crap in the middle of the MOC story. The joys and sorrows of Jodi and her domestic life of helping teen girls become strong women and hunters is a story for another show.

Agreed. I have no interest in this storyline and these remain to date the only episodes I haven’t seen. (I christened it it Homecoming in my head because it reminded me of a mawkish series by Cynthia Voight I read when I was a young teen) ‘Mawkish’ describes what they have done to Claire (and by extension Cas) pretty well. I don’t think the actress is bad, or her character even, it just doesn’t belong in this story.
I don’t like the baiting the actress gets up to on social media either TBH and it reduced my willingness to give the episodes a chance still further.
Sorry J2 THIS story is about Sam and Dean. We want you to have more time off really! But I think you are going to have to just make fewer episodes. The soap opera stuff is not so good ….
(As always all the above is IMO)
Not Supernatural related, but when I went to library school I took a class in Young Adult Literature. The teacher told us about the voting procedure for Newberry Awards is a bit idiosyncratic. The result was that Dicey’s Song (part 2 of the Homecoming series) won the Newberry in 1983 in spite of the fact that and I quote “no young adult would ever willingly read Dicey’s Song”.
Heh sorry Percy I took out that comment about the books because I figured nobody would know what I was talking about – I put it back! ๐ I am glad to hear other people have had the same experience with these books as I did! And that is hilarious – honestly I can say that these books put me off reading ‘worthy award winning’ books for life.

Nosy parker reporting for duty- what is the baiting you’re referring to? I’m totally out of the loop as far as social media goes, but I’d love to know what your comment refers to.
I am not going to encourage her further by spreading her nonsense : ) I am just saying from my point of view I don’t like what she does. Not being on social media is much better for one’s SPN viewing, I think, you should stick with that!
Sorry S&D elif is right with this one everytime I see a Claire twit I don’t even stop — nonsense. If you really REALLY need to know just google her name and you will see
I didn’t won’t to waste a whole comment section on a stupid thought or question so I decided to put it here and if anybody would like to comment fine.
I’m a bit concerned about what has been metioned in passing in other articles about SPN writers bowing to what fans won’t to see, is this Good or Bad ??
Reading a few rumors about Ep 15 with the Boys in singlets (This is good mmmmmmmmmm :o:o:o ) sorry lost my train of thought Possibly some sort of wrestling episode anyway now they are saying that we may get a guest appearence by another actor from another show. The fans have been asking for this at all the conventions, I don’t really know what I think about this
Bending to Fan pressure or just giving us what some won’t
As for this ep with Jodi I agree with S&D Bad ass Jodi who loves and cares for the Boys is great A Mum figure witth whinny teenagers NAHHHHH That Blows :(:(:(:(:(
Jen I don’t think there is any problem with your question. I do think that the writers have screwed with their own storylines to give the noisier viewers what they think we all want. And it has been very bad for the show because their plots end up not even making the sense that they were intending to write. So yes I agree that they shouldn’t bow to viewer pressure.
Having said that I was following the Stephen Amell rumor and I think it looks a lot like just that – a rumor – click here for the story (”https://www.thewinchesterfamilybusiness.com/lets-discuss/how-to-start-a-rumor-a-masterclass-featuring-stephen-amell-as-a-guy-watching-tv”)
BTW do you have any idea how hard it is for me to keep spelling ‘rumour’ as rumor?
I do not think there are any stupid questions. If this guest appears it will be fine if he makes a good cameo appearance or if he truly is written well as part of the story.
Ep 15 with the Boys in singlets
I really want to see this…..:)
Jen – nothing inappropriate about your comments. I agree; the fan (and convention) servicing by the writers has become more pronounced the last couple of seasons, to the detriment of canon and, at times, good storytelling.
In my mind fanservicing was the worst thing they could do, last couple of seasons they bent to the wishes of how many? several dozens or may be a couple of hundreds of noisy fans and lost how many? about a million viiewers, if I’m not mistaken? Good job)))
I suppose I’m definitely in the minority here, but that’s cool. I’m actually enjoying Claire on the show, but not because of any weird teen angst thing. The way I see it, she’s a way to give Castiel more development and since I’m such a fan of his character, I’m excited to see things play out. I definitely do not want to see teenagers take over the show or there to be some kind of young adult drama or whatever. I actually really liked that Claire isn’t a typical teen. She’s very rough and very eager to live the world on her own. I would love to see her become a hunter in some fashion and it shouldn’t matter that she’s female, of course.
I guess I just keep looking at it from Cas’s perspective. The Winchesters and Cas and all the hunters work so hard to save lives, but usually leave quite a trail of bodies behind them. Claire and her mother were two of them. Yes, Jimmy’s sacrifice helped save the world, but I personally always wondered what happened to them (until we finally found out). I remember in the early years, before the Leviathan and the brothers had to give up all their false ID’s, I always wondered what happened to the people whose identities they stole. Little silly stuff like that. Nothing to warrant a story arc over or even an episode, but maybe a mention or a peek through the looking glass as to the side effects of two hunters coming into a town where you happen to live or two hunters stealing your identity. Like, what impact could that have on the general populous of an area or what impact does that really have on the people whose lives they are saving. lol. It’s all extra background and backstory to the Supernatural Universe they’ve created on the show and it just fascinates me in general.
So, I crave all the details about it. And Claire is kinda just one of those things. In fact, I always thought it would be half hilarious and half tragic if they did an episode where Cas is actually recognized by one of Jimmy’s old friends (before Jimmy went missing) and the friend is all amazed to see him again after all these years and Cas had to deal with that in some way.
Regardless, I feel like we are going to get more backstory on Jodi with this episode. So, I’m looking forward to that. As for Claire, I want to see her interact more with the brothers and Cas. I’m not really interested in her own personal issues or wants/needs/goals. I just want to see how the brothers and Cas continue to handle the aftermath of Jimmy’s decision to let Cas in and the impact that’s had on other people’s lives.

A reminder: I am not in charge of what my character gets to say on screen. Or whether she lives. That is all.
Well that’s not encouraging at ALL!
Donโt You Forget About Me was a song made popular by the movie the Breakfast Club in the 1980’s, a coming of age comedy/drama about some teenagers stuck in detention on a Saturday. Given that Alex and Claire are of high school age, I anticipate much angsty teenage angst in this episode :):)
HOW OLD ARE YOU ALL? 50? Because this teenage hate is UNBELIEVABLE. NEVER HAD TO READ SO MUCH SHIT IN MY HOLY LIFE. If you don’t want to see Claire and Alex storyline, buy an Impala and go fuck yourself inside it, just that simple. And for those who hate Cas/Misha, I even have no words to describe how insignificant you are for the good souls ever born. I feel dirty reading your hate about the good stuff of supernatural. AND.. I also here to say that. . SUPERNATURAL IS NOT ONLY ABOUT THE BROTHERS
Bye ;*
Oh my….:o
