Fan Video of the Week Ultimate Edition: Supernatural 11.03-07 (Part 1)
Baby
“On April 21, 1967, the 100 millionth GM vehicle rolled off the line at the plant in Janesville — a blue two-door Caprice. There was a big ceremony, speeches. The lieutenant governor even showed up. Three days later, another car rolled off that same line. No one gave two craps about her. But they should have, because this 1967 Chevrolet Impala would turn out to be the most important car — no, the most important object — in pretty much the whole universe. She was first owned by Sal Moriarty, an alcoholic with two ex-wives and three blocked arteries. On weekends, he’d drive around giving Bibles to the poor “gettin’ folks right for Judgment Day.” That’s what he said. Sam and Dean don’t know any of this, but if they did, I bet they’d smile. After Sal died, she ended up at Rainbow Motors, a used-car lot in Lawrence, where a young marine bought her on impulse. That is, after a little advice from a friend. I guess that’s where this story begins. And here’s where it ends.” – Chuck, 5.22 Swan Song
Wow, what can I say about this episode? After ten years all I can say is that we got an episode that from the get-go became to be my all-time favorite. Supernatural has its fair share of good and remarkable episodes so it is no mere feat to be the best. The episode was penned by Robbie Thompson who I like a lot as a writer. He is very passionate about Supernatural and he also tries to listen to the fans. “Baby” is that and a lot more in a perfect way. This episode deserves awards. How the scenes were filmed was extraordinary.
It is actually hard to say what “Baby” means for fans and for me and how great it was. It was the episode I really wanted to see. When the wait was almost over, actually on the same day it aired, my leg needed to be operated on after I fell down the outside stairs. I can’t lie that the operation wasn’t risky but it was needed if I ever wanted to walk again normally. I actually did think about Jared and his cause and this would be my time to always keep fighting. To not give up. Luckily, the next day I could watch the episode with my husband in the hospital. Needless to say that I will remember the episode “Baby” for years to come because of what happened.
Baby’s statistics from Supernatural Wiki:
· The car is a 1967 Chevrolet Impala. Chuck says the Impala rolled off the assembly line in Janesville, Wisconsin, on April 24, 1967. April 24 is Eric Kripke’s birthday.
· Her first owner was Sal Moriarty, who bought her for $3999 and drove around in her giving Bibles to the poor. This is another reference to Jack Kerouac’s On the Road, a huge literary influence on Eric Kripke. The main characters in On the Road are two young men, Sal (Paradise) and Dean Moriarty, who drive around the country.
· John Winchester bought her from Rainbow Motors in Lawrence, Kansas, in 1973, after being influenced by time-traveling Dean. The price on the windshield was $2204.
· License plates: C-45P4 (1973), BQN 9R3 (1997), KAZ 2Y5 (2005-07), RMD 5H2 (wish-verse 2006), CNK 80Q3 (2007-Present)
· The license plates are “KAZ 2Y5” Kansas plates for all of season one and most of season two, until they switch to “CNK 80Q3” Ohio plates in order to avoid detection.
o In the alternative reality of the wish-verse the license plates are “RMD 5H2” Kansas plates.
o The original KAZ 2Y5 plates appear again in season four via a recycled shot from season two.
o In a flashback to 1997, the plates are “BQN 9R3” Kansas plates, seen when John drives Dean and Sam to school in the Impala.
o In Supernatural: The Animation, the plates are “KYZ 2Y5” Kansas plates.
o In the timeline where the Titanic doesn’t sink, Dean drives a Mustang with the Chevy Impala’s original KAZ 2Y5 Kansas plates.
· Contrary to the design of the official Supernatural website, the Impala has a bench front seat and its gearshift is located on the steering column.
· The front seat reclines; this is seen when Constance Welch is attacking Sam.
· The Impala has an automatic transmission, although it was described as a manual in 2.05 “Simon Said”.
· It has a cassette player and radio, no CD player, although when Dean returns from Hell he discovers that Sam has added an iPod jack. Dean rips it out and tosses it onto the backseat. It hasn’t been seen since then.
· There is a weapons compartment built into the trunk, with a combination lock on it. The combination is 11-02-83.
· At Comic-Con in 2007 when asked about the engine specifications of the Impala, Kripke looked lost, but Jensen was able to describe it in detail.
· There are eight Impalas used on the show. The main (hero) car has a 502 Big Block 550 Horsepower Engine and is the only one with a factory air conditioner.
· The sound of the squeaking doors were chosen individually for the passenger side door as well as the driver side door by Supernatural sound supervisor Mike Lawshe.
· In 3.10 “Dream a Little Dream of Me”, director Steve Boyum had the side spotlights removed from the Impala in order to mount cameras. In May 2008 a fan campaign was started to get them restored.
For Baby I chose two videos.

Supernatural Impala Highway to Hell made by: Brooke Lawrence
Highway to Hell by AC/DC
Livin’ easy
Lovin’ free
Season ticket on a one way ride
Askin’ nothin’
Leave me be
Takin’ everythin’ in my stride
Don’t need reason
Don’t need rhyme
Ain’t nothin’ that I’d rather do
Goin’ down
Party time
My friends are gonna be there too
I’m on the highway to hell
On the highway to hell
Highway to hell
I’m on the highway to hell
No stop signs
Speed limit
Nobody’s gonna slow me down
Like a wheel
Gonna spin it
Nobody’s gonna mess me around
Hey, Satan
Payin’ my dues
Playin’ in a rockin’ band
Hey, mamma
Look at me
I’m on the way to the promised land
I’m on the highway to hell
Highway to hell
I’m on the highway to hell
Highway to hell
Don’t stop me
I’m on the highway to hell
On the highway to hell
I’m on the highway to hell
On the highway to hell
(highway to hell) I’m on the highway to hell
(highway to hell) highway to hell
(highway to hell) highway to hell
(highway to hell)
And I’m goin’ down
All the way
I’m on the highway to hell
AC/DC are an Australian hard rock band, formed in November 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, who continued as members until Malcolm’s illness and departure in 2014. Commonly referred to as a hard rock or blues rock band, they are also considered pioneers of heavy metal and are sometimes classified as such, though they have always dubbed their music as simply “rock and roll”.
AC/DC underwent several line-up changes before releasing their first album, High Voltage, on 17 February 1975; Malcolm and Angus were the only original members left in the band. Membership subsequently stabilized until bassist Mark Evans was replaced by Cliff Williams in 1977 for the album Powerage. Within months of recording the album Highway to Hell, lead singer and co-songwriter Bon Scott died on 19 February 1980 after a night of heavy alcohol consumption. The group considered disbanding, but buoyed by support from Scott’s parents, decided to continue and set about finding a new vocalist. Ex-Geordie singer Brian Johnson was auditioned and selected to replace Scott. Later that year, the band released the new album, Back in Black, which was made as a tribute to Bon Scott. The album launched them to new heights of success and became their all-time best-seller.

On The Dark Side – Supernatural Impala FanVid – SPN NJCon 2012 made by: strgazr04
On The Dark Side by John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band
The dark side’s callin’ now, nothin’ is real
She’ll never know just how I feel
From out of the shadows she walks like a dream
Makes me feel crazy, makes me feel so mean
Ain’t nothin’ gonna save you from a love that’s blind
When you slip to the dark side you cross that line
On the dark side, oh yeah
On the dark side, oh yeah
John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band is an American rock band from Rhode Island which began its career in the 1970s and achieved mainstream success in the 1980s. Originally known as simply Beaver Brown, they got their name from longtime friend William Bosworth. The classic lineup of the group (consisting of John Cafferty on vocals and guitar, Gary Gramolini on lead guitar, Pat Lupo on bass, Kenny Jo Silva on drums, Bobby Cotoia on keyboards, and Michael “Tunes” Antunes on saxophone) started out as a New England bar band based in Narragansett, Rhode Island and established a following up and down the Northeast corridor with strongholds in the beach resort towns of Narragansett and Misquamicut, Rhode Island; New York City; New Haven, Connecticut; Boston, Massachusetts; and Asbury Park, New Jersey.
Quotes:
Dean: Where’s the beer?
Sam: Under the smoothies.
Dean: Where’s the rest of the beer?
Dean: As far as Dad goes, I dream about Dad all the time.
Sam: You do?
Dean: ‘Course I do. It’s usually the same one too, we’re all in the car I’m sitting in the driver’s seat and Dad’s sitting shotgun. But there aren’t any shotguns, and there’s no monsters, no hunting, there’s none of that. It’s just he’s teaching me how to drive, and I’m not little like I was when actually taught me how to drive, I’m sixteen and he’s helping me get my learner’s permit. Of course you’re in the back seat just begging to take a turn, we pull up to the house — the family house. I park in the driveway, and he looks over and he says, ‘perfect landing son.’ I have that dream every couple of months, it’s kinda comforting actually.
Sam: I always dream about Mom, usually the same kind of thing though.
Dean: Normal life?
Sam: Yeah. Normal life.

Those are some sweet posters!
They are really great. I am glad she liked the idea that I could include them to the articles. I fell in love to them immediately. 🙂

Hi Lilah. I enjoyed this article with all the videos and bonus poster art. @Alice_Mars _Mann does beautiful work. I hope to see see more of her art in your future articles and part 2 of this one. My favorite poster was Amara-The Darkness Has Returned. For the video I am going to have to go with with Supernatural Impala Highway to Hell. Because well, Highway to Hell 🙂 Thanks.
You have good choices! That Amara poster is one of my favorites too. She will be glad to hear all the feedback for her art. And Highway to hell is pretty fitting for the road the boys are taking and for Baby. It felt like what ever I wrote and chose for that episode was not enough to give it the credit it deserved. Glad you liked the articles and the art!

Team free will was very well done. It made me cry. Videos about the Impala don’t do much for me, but my 18 year old son would like them. He loves classic cars. I appreciate the work people put into these, thanks for the article.
Glad you liked it! 🙂
