Let’s Speculate: Supernatural 11.06 “Our Little World”
Tonight’s episode, penned by Bob Berens and directed by John Showalter, focuses on several threads of the current season.
Sam and Dean are still in the Borden town investigating Amarita. Dean calls to check in on Castiel to see if he’s okay and if he has info on Metatron. Instead, Castiel is binge watching a talk show. Dean says hey get out of the bunker. Castiel tries but he’s feeling some trauma from his recent spell. Back in the Crowley Dungeon, Hell King is getting updates on his business but he realizes that a lot of people are gone. Apparently Amara has eaten most of hell and she’s escaped.
Back in Bordenville, Sam and Dean are still investigating and come across the soul gorged girl who went Lizzie on her mom with a frying pan. Sam and Dean catch a demon in a trap as he tries to kill Goldie, the Girl with a Frying Pan and a Frying Plan.
Castiel, still in the bunker, is watching the news and sees that Metatron is playing cameraman for Omaha local news.
Sam and Dean interrogate the hipster demon about Amara and Crowley. Demon tells the boys about Amara’s eating disorder, and that’s a whole issue we can discuss later on when we get to the Lolita issues. So Sam and Dean are tired of hipster demon and killed him. Dean apparently ditched the body at a hospital parking lot. They are tracking Crowley and banter about Dean and Crowley’s “summer of love”.
Back in the dungeon, Amarita is learning about memes and Crowley is doing a father routine, which again, just okay. Crowley offers a soul but she’s gone on a hunger strike in rebellion. Crowley admits he is flying without rules and Amarita is like, I’ll be finished with you soon.
Sam and Dean discuss killing Amarita and wonder how they can kill her. Dean suggests a full frontal attack but seems troubled by the whole thing. Back with Crowley and Amara, the Hell King catalogs his resume and his wisdom to give the girl some scale and learn her a bit. She’s just growing too fast but not with wisdom. Crowley seems like he’s trying to convince her of his usefulness, which is interesting.
Back in Omaha, Metatron is standing over a dying man and robs him. Castiel catches him in the act. Metatron films Castiel healing the dying guy and the cops show up, but they (Met and Cas) disappear.
Sam and Dean break into Crowley’s lair, which is an abandoned old house (asylum?). Castiel is off kicking Metatron’s ass and also judging the angel’s choice of survival, what with the robbing and pawning and paparazzi life. Metatron, now Marv, tells Castiel that life is just really simulation. Castiel stole the demon tablet from Metatron’s apartment. Metatron reveals that God did speak about the Darkness and he says he doesn’t have to tell Castiel. Metatron sees that Castiel is broken and afraid.
In the Hell Dungeon, Sam and Dean split up. Sam goes after the demon core while Dean goes to Amara. Dean asks Amara what he should do but Crowley interrupts. Crowley laments his inability to kill Dean before but now he’s ready. In what sounds like a break up speech (“It’s you, not me.”), Crowley tries to kill Dean but Amarita throws him against the wall for threatening her man.
While Metatron and Castiel are confronting each other, Amara is telling Crowley she doesn’t need his protection or his prison. Sam gets into Demon Central and gets head smashed again. Sam kills a demon while Castiel beats the hell out of Metatron. Both Sam and Castiel fight the urge for more violence. Sam goes to find Dean and he has another vision. Amara spares Crowley in exchange for safe passage for Dean out of the dungeon.
Metatron begs Castiel to help him get his grace back while Dean and Amara have what can only be described as troublesome and complicated emotions? Meanwhile Metatron tells Castiel what God had to sacrifice to build the world….his sister, the Darkness. When we return to the Dungeon, it looks like Amara will kill Sam, but Dean goes after her. She disappears after sending him flying across the room.
Back at the bunker the boys and Castiel discuss what went down. Metatron and Amara got away. They argue. Sam says he will continue to look into the lore but when we watch him leave the room , we see he is rattled by the visions he had…..of the Cage! The episode ends on a montage set to “You’ll be a Woman Soon” as Amara makes her way into the world, Mary Tyler Moore style!

Leave thoughts, feelings, comments, etc. below!
1. So were y’all as weirded out by that Dean/Amara confrontation as me? Yes? No? Maybe?
I kind of expected it. She’s obviously a DeanGirl:D…She’s oddly fascinated by him. He’s the first thing she saw when she was released. He’s a human, God’s creation, and yet this human set her free. It’s because of Dean that she can exact her revenge. She’s sort of beholden to him for that…again…very similar to Lucifer’s feelings for Sam. But then again, she is luci’s aunt…..;). I believe she referred to Dean as God’s foil. I didn’t get the sense of anything romantic at all….more like magnetic for lack of a better word….Dean still knows she’s got to be stopped. He wants to kill her even if he’s powerless right now to do so. it’s almost hypnotic….dean almost seemed like he was in a trance…like Dracula…before he would suck the victims blood, he would put them in a trance like state…..but dean’s trance was not so deep that he couldn’t get out of it. Amara’s hold on Dean isn’t as strong as she thinks. When she hurt Sam, Dean tried to stab her…she had to fling him against the wall….Did you see her face? She was stunned….as with most of these deities….they all underestimate the Winchester bond…..this will be her undoing. ;);
2. So what do you think of the reveal about God and Amara’s connection?
She doesn’t look anything at all like Chuck, but then I don’t really look like my brother either. :p:D….I think it’s pretty WOW. Think about it….in the world of Supernatural….God/Amara, Michael/Lucifer, Cain/Abel….all examples of sibling dysfunction….then you have Sam and Dean….created by God…..yes they’re known to be a bit dysfunctional….but Sam and Dean have proven time and time again, that these siblings, they’re bond is strong and unbreakable….I kind of wonder is Sam and Dean is God’s way of redeeming himself….?
3. The final scene was the CAGE!!!! Did y’all hear Dean’s name? I think I heard Dean’s name? Was it a memory from the cage?
I didn’t hear Dean’s name…I have to watch again….But, Sam’s vision: well pretty convenient that his vision comes soon after amara’s meet and greet with dean and us finding out that amara is God’s sis. Sam’s vision is either himself in the cage and those were his fingers we saw…or he’s seeing the cage and those were either Michael or luci’s fingers….either way all roads seem to be leading to the cage. I imagine the help the boys need will be found there.
4. What will Crowley do now? Seems he has forfeited any position in Amara’s new world….
That was a given….I fear that he will once again be forced to help the Winchesters because Amara has made it pretty clear that the only reason Crowley is alive, is because she allowed it…..:p
5. Is Castiel’s depression psychosomatic or a physical effect from the spell?
I think he was having a hard time getting back on the horse….but looks to me like he’s back in the saddle again. 😉
6. Another great outing from Berens, in my opinion!
I totally agree……it felt more like a midseason finale…..if this is eppy six, i’m stoked for 9 and 10…..i’m glad the next two eps are light and funny….I think we can use a bit of a breather.
I watch with head phones I sometimes can’t hear Deans words Anyway no it was just noise in the background No words WOW what about that song Girl You’ll be a Women soon. I just cried I LOVE AMARA
I’m under her spell
1. So were y’all as weirded out by that Dean/Amara confrontation as me? Yes? No? Maybe?
Not as weirded out as Dean seemed to be. I’m not going to cheapen it by calling it sexual tension, but it’s a pretty powerful connection that Dean just can’t process. He’s terrified of the ramifications, though, hence the reason he’s not (yet anyway) sharing this info with Sam. Ditto for Sam and his visions. As much as I don’t like secrets between the brothers, here it’s understandable with both of them; when something scares the bejesus out of you, you have to at least try to wrap your head around it before you can begin to talk about it. I’ll be patient here and go where the story takes me, as long as it doesn’t drag out too long.
2. So what do you think of the reveal about God and Amara’s connection?
Very cool. It has oodles of storyline potential that I can wait to see them explore as the season progresses. Kudos too to the young actress who played this latest version of Amara; she definitely held her own with some pretty meaty material to deal with. I like creepy villains not smarmy ones (one of many reasons I’m thrilled they put the menace back in Crowley this season) and the creep factor was definitely upped tonight.
3. The final scene was the CAGE!!!! Did y’all hear Dean’s name? I think I heard Dean’s name? Was it a memory from the cage?
Another aspect of The Darkness storyline I can’t wait to see SPN explore. I’m still not sure whether these are flashbacks to Sam’s time in the cage, Lucifer reaching out to him through their connection (this would be nice symmetry to Dean’s connection to Amara) or a combination of the two, but I won’t be disappointed whichever route they take. Great visuals of the cage, too, with the tie-in to Dean calling out to Sam from Hell in the final shot of Season 3.
6. Another great outing from Berens, in my opinion!
Bob Berens is one of SPN’s strongest writers, IMHO, and before this season, the best at pacing out multiple storylines within an episode. While he proved that again with Our Little World, it’s a credit to the writing staff as a whole that he’s got much stronger competition for that title this season. Another strong episode in the best start to a season in the post-Kripke era.
WOW WOW and WOW. What have they done to Supernatural the show has come of age. I havn’t sat chewing my nails hanging onto every word, crying heavy breathing the whole gambit for a very long time.
I deffinatly need that break next wk with a scarey bunny. Thank you to everyone at SPN and the fabolous writers for bringing back Supernatural
1. So were y’all as weirded out by that Dean/Amara confrontation as me? Yes? No? Maybe? If Amara was standing there as a women I would be disappointed because it looked like Love ? Sexual tension ?
But because she said Dean was the first of god’s creation that she had seen and the reason why she was banished is so god could create these humans I’m thinking it maybe a curiosty I still don’t know
2. So what do you think of the reveal about God and Amara’s connection? What a way to expand further epic story lines That was so out there Fanfreakentastic. I really don’t think you can kill her now How do you kill god Only contain her. Amara is the all bad to gods all good Light and Dark his balance Good luck Boys
3. The final scene was the CAGE!!!! Did y’all hear Dean’s name? I think I heard Dean’s name? Was it a memory from the cage? No didn’t hear Dean’s name and not a memory I don’t reckon. It was THE CAGE calling to Sam – But it has to be Adam/Michael because Lucifer doesn’t have a meat suit. Mark Pelligrino died. Unless Sam lets him in to save the planet
4. What will Crowley do now? Seems he has forfeited any position in Amara’s new world…. He is in deep shit but remember he has 3 faces on the promo poster. Do you think he will go to Lucifer for help maybe take him on as a side kick. That would be great Crowely and Lucifer
5. Is Castiel’s depression psychosomatic or a physical effect from the spell? Its psychosomatic he has been through sooooo much He has lost his identity He doesn’t know who or where he belongs anymore. Watching that much day time TV does that to a person
6. Another great outing from Berens, in my opinion! YES is there anyway we can show are appreciation so they keep writing these wonderful episodes. THANK YOU THANK You
and THANK YOU WFB for your tweeter feeds during the episodes – it keeps me in touch till I watch the ep. in the afternoon :):):):):):)
Mark Pelligrino died
Yikes don’t say that. I think you meant to say his character died 😀
Mark Pelligrino died
It’ll be all over the internet by now. 😀 Just teasing Jen, we know what you meant!
I’m sick have been for 2 wks bronchtis Leave me alone LOL
Sorry for teasing you when you are down girl, get better soon. 😉
I think I would rather a tease then salt and burned LOL You girls are so nasty LOL Thanks though sick of antibiotics they seem to make you feel more sick. I will be a lot better when someone comes up with a good reason for this Dean/Amara bond I do Love this season but I have never been so frustrated (well I have but not in a story sense Haha haaaaaaaa )
Well just in case I’ve already assembled a pyre and I’ve got plenty of salt so we are good to go. Don’t worry, we got your back!
Ooh. I can’t believe I just typed that. 😉
Ah if only antibiotics cured everything
Perhaps it’s time to add Boric Acid to the arsenal?
Briefly a few thoughts. Tired and need to rewatch. I was uncomfortable with the Amara/Dean interaction but not because I thought it was sexual tension. More like parent and child. He was gentle and seemed to care about her. Well when he wasn’t trying to stab her. It seemed mutual. Creepy. Dean is definitely being influenced and now he knows it, and it scares the hell out of him. This latest Amara incarnation was great I thought. Dean, Dean talk to Sam.!!! Sam tell Dean about the cage vision. Why does Crowley keep trying to make everybody family? His interest in Amara may be more about the souls. Metatron keeping the tablet under his mattress. Good move. 🙂
Thanks Bookdal
1. So were y’all as weirded out by that Dean/Amara confrontation as me? Yes? No? Maybe?
I wasn’t. I know people will instantly think there was some underlying sexual implications, and be creeped out because of the actress’s age … but as I watched it, my mind automatically went to a mothers feelings for a newborn child. Despite what came before for Amara/The Darkness, the first thing she saw that had been created from her downfall was Dean. They share the Mark of Cain. She’s knows they’re connected. Even though they just met, there’s this connection and these feelings that she can’t explain. Like a mother giving birth. She’s experienced uncharted pains to allow this thing to be born, yet, upon first sight of this ungodly mess put in front of her, she’s overwhelmed in a way she has trouble understanding. How can she love something so much that she just met?
That’s a dumb/simplified theory as such a subject is way beyond my understanding and education level, so I’ll shut up.
2. So what do you think of the reveal about God and Amara’s connection?
I like it. Felt kind of cheesy as Metatron said it, but there’s something organic about it. From beginning to end, it’s all about family.
3. The final scene was the CAGE!!!! Did y’all hear Dean’s name? I think I heard Dean’s name? Was it a memory from the cage?
I did not hear Dean’s name.
4. What will Crowley do now? Seems he has forfeited any position in Amara’s new world….
I’m sure Crowley will do some scheming, probably even try and make nice with mummy-dearest to help take Amara out, but if my instincts mean anything (which they rarely do), this may very well be the final season for Mark Sheppard. I think, by season’s end, Crowley’s ticket will be punched.
5. Is Castiel’s depression psychosomatic or a physical effect from the spell?
Hopefully, psychosomatic. However, maybe it’ll lead to a bigger, better, wiser Cas … and allow him to finally take the reins of heaven.
6. Another great outing from Berens, in my opinion!
Smashed it out of the park. I don’t know what changed behind the scenes, but someone’s lit a fire under the narrative’s arse of this show.
The most horrifying thing that was discovered and exposed in this episode? Metatron has BEDBUGS!!! For real. And Cas was over tossing his place, looking for the Demon tablet, standing right in his bedroom, reaching under his pillow… What if Cas unknowingly carries them back with him to the bunker! Sam and Dean think they are up against it with The Darkness. I’m afraid the Winchesters are about to find out that you’ve never truly had your soul sucked out until you’ve had to deal with those creepy crawly little bastards. I hope the brothers had the sense to buy blends for their flannel and T shirt material cause if it’s cotton, those puppies are going to really shrink in the high heat of the dryer… Who knows maybe they will be blessed enough to find a cure in the MOL library. If not I know the name of a good exterminator. 😉
LOL! I’m grinning here thinking about an episode where they deal with bed bugs.
Dean: “Ghosts, vampires, you name it I can deal with it. But bed bugs?”
Sam: “We can do this Dean, just follow the instructions on that website I gave you”
*Shivers* That would honestly be the only Supernatural episode I would never watch. Ever. I’m itching right now just thinking about it. Worse yet – demonic bedbugs.
Or for Sam demonic clown bedbugs… on a tuesday 😀
Ooh sorry YES, my exterminator draws the line at demonic clown bedbugs. He said that he can recommend someone though! 😉
Yeah I could just see Dean telling Sam to break out the Holy oil. “Damn it Sam! It worked on the rabids, what do you mean it won’t kill bedbugs!?”
I agree with what everyone above said about the episode, but that has never stopped me from piling on so here goes
This is definitely the best start to a season post-Kripke. I keep wondering what the hell TPTB and the writers were doing churning out the crap that was most of S9 and 10 when they were capable of this awesome plotting and execution. But I digress. It was like Christmas came early because so many things that have been on my wishlist have been realized this season and in this ep. I’ve been wishing forever that the boys would start trying to exorcise demons sometimes instead of simply killing them, or at least offer an explanation as to why they have abandoned that practice, so I LOVED that under Sam’s “new rules” they are doing just that. They are truly going to follow through on Sam’s determination to save all of the people and I’m loving it. While Sam is the driving force behind this, Dean did not really object to trying to save hipster demon’s meatsuit. It’s also great to see a return to some vintage demons, with a good dose of snark and even some menace. The demons have been portrayed as sycophants and buffoons for far too long.
I loved the humor in this ep and the epic amounts of snark flying around from all parties. My fave was probably Sam’s dig at Dean and Crowley’s summer of love. I cracked up at that. I also loved Cas’s retrieval of the tablet from under Metatron’s mattress.
This ep finally gave us an incarnation of a young Amara that I liked (well, I did love the baby as well:)). She seemed a little more other-worldly and mysterious than the 2 previous ones so I really enjoyed her scenes. In fact, Berens and the director did a fantastic job of juggling and interweaving the multiple story lines. There was never a time I was impatiently waiting for a return to a different story because I found all of them engrossing, even gripping.
It was great to see so many different, and surprising, facets to all of the characters. Finally, an end to bromantic Crowley. The Crowley/Dean bromance was one of the worst story lines in the series; it made no sense for either character and it came perilously close to ruining Crowley’s character. I practically cheered when Crowley said he was finally going to kill Dean. Thank you Berens!!!! It’s also great to see a return to tough, determined Cas. Metatron always seems to bring out the best in Cas and I hope we’ve seen the end of bunker-dwelling, binge-watching Cas. I agree with Russ: the thing I’m waiting and hoping for is for Cas to take charge in Heaven and rally the angels against the D. This seems like a good start. The Metatron plot was one I’ve also been waiting for. As soon as the D was released I figured that the boys could gain some intel from Metatron about it, and I think it was well-done here. I think Beren’s writing for Metatron was excellent and shows that he did his homework. I love Metatron, with all of his vicious one-liners, but amidst his repellent sliminess and cruelty, it’s been easy to forget the Metatron we first met. the one who expressed his feelings of awe and humbleness that he was chosen to sit at God’s feet and be his scribe. In that first ep, and again last night, we saw that underneath all of his horrible qualities there is a little nugget of goodness, his love and respect for God. CA did an awesome job showing that. In fact, it fits in with Amara’s story because Metatron turned evil because of what he viewed as a betrayal by his fellow angels. They chased him out of his home in heaven, and put him on the run, and he has never forgiven them for that.
The reveal that the D is God’s sister was great. I was literally leaning forward hanging on Metatron’s every word, and I was not disappointed. It fits in with what FAE and others have been speculating about the theme of family. It explains so much of amara’s actions and how she has selected her human victims. Except for Len, she has been drawn to those who feel that they have been betrayed or mistreated by family, as she was. That raised the question of how she feels about Dean. Dean is the counterpoint to Amara. Despite the occasions on which he has felt betrayed or wronged by Sam, nothing has ever been able to break their bond. maybe that is part of Amara’s fascination with him.
I actually liked the Dean/Amara interaction. It explained a lot, and I loved the almost trance-like state Dean was in. The best part was how that trance was broken- by Amara flinging Sam into the wall. The look of anger on Dean’s face and his instant attempt to go after Amara with the knife was so damn satisfying. That is the Dean I’ve been waiting to see: protective big-brother Dean. It has been far too long.
It is so great that we are continuing to see the Sam I fell in love with in the pilot, and to know that the first few eps this season weren’t a fluke. We saw smart Sam (he triangulated! and found the POI!) Compassionate Sam (he really is going to try to save all the people, even at some risk to himself!) Kick-ass Sam (not only was he not tied up but he whupped THREE demons even though he handicapped himself by refusing to use lethal force until absolutely necessary) Snarky Sam (he’s giving Dean s**t, just like in the old days). But best of all is the Sam who is integral to the plot. At the end of the ep, when he said “I’ll check the lore” I thought it would be business as usual: Sam leaves the room on some pretext while Dean and Cas have a heart to heart. But lo and behold, the camera followed Sam for the big reveal- his visions of the cage. I actually stood up when that happened, I was so excited.
The only teensy quibble I have with the ep is the secrets are still dragging on. I can kind of see why Sam is not being forthcoming. Dean has been unreceptive to the idea that Sam’s visions mean anything. He called them crazy in the last ep, and he ridiculed them here when he asked sarcastically if God had told him anything. And maybe Dean is still trying to process his connection to Amara. However, soon it will seem ludicrous if he doesn’t reveal what she said to him about their connection. But at this point, I’m so jazzed by the awesomeness that is S 11 that I’m willing to be patient and see how it plays out. So many excellent possibilities for the story. If they can keep this up, I can see this being one of the best seasons ever.
You summed up perfectly pretty much everything I was going to say! We are definitely on the same page. Things that stuck out to me. Have we ever gone into an episode that was the continuation of the time, place and case of the previous episode? Not in years if ever except for in a deliberate two part episode. And can I just take a moment to mourn poor Len… ah, I was sad to hear he’d been killed…. but that was probably the easiest way to continue to move the story along. I wasn’t too skeeved out by the Dean/Amara thing, I think their connection is intense even intimate, but not sexual so I didn’t find it creepy, although it is certainly worrisome. Dean’s in deep, deep trouble. How I WISH he would talk to Sam. This kind of secret keeping because he’s freaked out is what got Kevin killed. I hope he comes clean before something equally catastrophic happens. And I agree with everyone else; the actress for this version of Amara is great. She has an otherworldly and even an old timey feel that really works for her character and she managed to make me a little afraid of her. I thought it was especially interesting that the only thing that seemed to get to Dean was when she turned on Sam and then Dean went after her. She seemed absolutely stunned in that moment. Heh! Don’t mess with little brother. But given that she’s a primordial entity means that she probably won’t remember this incident or will downplay it later thinking she’s too strong and that will be her downfall. I’m REAAAAALLY looking forward to more on Sam’s visions in the upcoming episodes. Wasn’t Sam the badass in this episode; that fight scene was epic and I love they way it was interposed over Cas’s fight scene for twice the information all at once.
And I also agree with everyone else that this season is SOOOOOO much tighter more cohesive just plain more interesting than seasons 6-10 combined. I hate to think that since season 8 this is what JC has been wanting to do, but that maybe the lions share of the decisions were coming from an increasingly disinterested Bob Singer. His stepping down seems to have revolutionized and rejuvenated the show. I hope that they can keep it going.
Wasn’t Sam the badass in this episode; that fight scene was epic
The sad part is that I’d almost forgotten how badass Sam was, and how good he is in a fight. He has been portrayed as so hapless and helpless the last few seasons– Damsel Sam. So it was awesome seeing him shown as the badass fighter that he always used to be.
Yeah….we saw Dean fight so much during Baby that it was nice that the writers seemed to remember that Sam is a good hunter and has great fighting skills too. 😉
My jaw dropped at the reveal that the Darkness is God’s sister. WHAT?!
I remember speaking “Oh my god..” in shock at the reveal of the cage. We’ve seen the cage from the outside! AMAGAWD. Were those hands Luci and Michael? *faints*
Sam’s vision of the cage! *gasp* Slow the hell down S11. You’re getting too good! no actually keep going..
1. So were y’all as weirded out by that Dean/Amara confrontation as me? Yes? No? Maybe? Not really. I expected it.
2. So what do you think of the reveal about God and Amara’s connection? Stunned disbelief
3. The final scene was the CAGE!!!! Did y’all hear Dean’s name? I think I heard Dean’s name? Was it a memory from the cage? I was really shocked! They showed the cage!
4. What will Crowley do now? Seems he has forfeited any position in Amara’s new world…. I’m not sure on this one. But man is he going to be plotting something good..
5. Is Castiel’s depression psychosomatic or a physical effect from the spell? I’d say so
When we return to the Dungeon, it looks like Amara will kill Sam
I was on the edge of my seat! Is she going to take his soul? Infect him again maybe? It took her a while to make that turn so maybe she was either plotting something or considering something there and then.
EDIT: Just a thought I had. What if god took a backseat during the apocalypse because the guilt of what he did t his sister finally overwhelmed him.
A quick word of thanks to Bookdal for getting these let’s speculate summaries/articles posted so quickly. Another very good episode; the pacing has improved a lot this season. Normally, the cutting back and forth between scenes in the latter part of the episode can be distracting, but it worked well in this episode.
That was the same wallpaper as in Changing Channels but there’s a slight difference; the pattern is the same but reversed so this wallpaper was hung upside down.
Interesting commentary on religion being dead and novels being deader, the effects of legalized marijuana on the drop of souls being sold, and the Metatron Ayn Rand-ian “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” reference.
Nice to see that Sam f’ing Winchester still knows how to fight demons, and I’m glad they’re at least making an effort to save the meatsuits; this will probably be important later on. As many of us suspected early on, Sam’s visions are leading to the cage, and a conversation with Michael and/or Lucifer. Maybe they can give him the scoop on Auntie Amara.
I liked Sam and Castiel’s silent conversation at the end; they’re not buying Dean’s story and know there’s a lot that Dean isn’t telling them.
Amara told Goldie – “I wanna be like you?” Very interesting, not sure quite what to make of it yet.
1. So were y’all as weirded out by that Dean/Amara confrontation as me? Yes? No? Maybe?
Their connection is weird; Dean is drawn to Amara, and vice versa, but I don’t see anything sexual there; it is strong enough to keep Dean from trying to kill her, though. That is until she hurt Sam, then all bets were off. In the last episode, Amara took away Sydney’s pain (before she ended up eating her soul); she also touched the side of Dean’s face – is that having a similar effect on Dean? Given Dean’s low opinion of God, I’m left to wonder if his Amara connection is ultimately strong enough for Dean to side with Amara against God?
2. So what do you think of the reveal about God and Amara’s connection?
OK, so Amara is God’s sister and she’s here to settle the oldest score. This can’t be good for God’s creation, can it?
3. The final scene was the CAGE!!!! Did y’all hear Dean’s name? I think I heard Dean’s name? Was it a memory from the cage?
There were visions of some sort of symbol in Sam’s first visions in this episode but I didn’t get a good look at them. There was a sound coming out of the cage but I don’t think it was Dean, but it was kind of a “D” sound.
4. What will Crowley do now? Seems he has forfeited any position in Amara’s new world….
Can’t blame a king of hell for trying to get in good with God’s sister. Was Crowley testing Amara’s connection to Dean by threatening to kill Dean, then see how she would react?
5. Is Castiel’s depression psychosomatic or a physical effect from the spell?
Not sure but he isn’t quite himself and is still dealing with a lot of the crap that’s happened recently.
6. Another great outing from Berens, in my opinion!
Off to a great start this season; the story, pacing, and writing has been much improved this season.
That was the same wallpaper as in Changing Channels but there’s a slight difference; the pattern is the same but reversed so this wallpaper was hung upside down.
That’s a cool fact, and I’m amazed that you noticed it. But it reminded me of another thing I really liked about the episode. However briefly, we finally got to see the bros in a motel room again! I would love to know how many times that has happened the last few seasons. Certainly not many times that I can recall. So many things about this season are reminiscent of the earlier seasons. Maybe that’s why this season is so great (so far, anyway:)).
I actually looked for the sunburst clock and there is was. Have we seen it lately? It used to be in every episode. Almost as much as the Impala.
I guess I am just not as observant as some of you folks. I’m going to be re-watching the ep this weekend and keeping my eye out for the clock and the wallpaper. Was the clock really in every ep? I knew it was in every motel room.
I seem to recall its been in some recent eps in some way because I remember sitting there thinking hmmm… look it’s the sunburst clock(!) happily recognizing that they are still carrying on with the tradition. I would have to rewatch them and let you know for sure. 😉 Oh the burdens you guys put on me. Will report back. Sometime. Today. If all goes well.
it’s in some episodes every season.. besides hotel rooms, it’s popped up in other places; diners, people’s houses, etc..
I just haven’t seen it in awhile.
All of your questions/comments are really good.
Number 3. I didn’t hear Deans name being called. But I had tapped it and when I went back and cranked up the sound at the very end of that scene I heard what sounded like Dean’s name being drawn out. Almost a hissing sound.
Possible theorys:
1. Sam remembering when he was in the cage he called out Dean’s name before the Angels pulled him out.
2. Since Dean is Michael’s sword it’s Michael calling to Dean by way of Sam. Dean releases Michael, becomes him and then battles Amara.
3. Lucifer calling. Don’t have much more to go on this theory. Other than the scene where John was driving and said he would never lie to Sam. That’s what Lucifer had said before.
All in all I really like this season. The girl(s) who play Amara are doing a great job of keeping up the suspense.
I didn’t see any sexual connection to Amara at all…not even in her adult form. The more I think about the more I’m reminded of the trance like state Dean was in every time he came close to or touched the first blade…….I kind of wonder now, though even though he no longer bears the mark…if dean came in contact with the blade, would it affect him in some way?
His reaction to Sam was similar too. Dean’s focus was disconnected from the blade when Sam called out to him…..Dean’s bond with Sam was stronger. Again here, Sam’s voice broke him from his trance, he looked away from her and looked at Sam. When she hurt Sam, Dean totally broke free and lunged at her with the knife…startling her and causing her to flee.
Amara’s hold might be stronger when they’re alone….but when Sam is there, her hold weakens. Now I wonder if the same would hold true if Cas were there too. Amara does seem to target dysfunctional or what she seems to be dysfunctional families…Dean sees Cas as part of his family….I think Dean’s strong familial bond is going to be stronger than Amara’s hold on him.
I do agree with Jen. Lucifer had no meat suit in the cage….Michael is in Adam? does anyone else think we’ll be seeing Adam again? If’s Sam’s visions are of luci/Michael in the cage, then it makes the most sense it was Michael we saw. Luci giving a damn about the darkness makes no sense, but Michael….I still think the visions are coming from God or a messenger (Gabriel) though.
i’m looking forward to the bunny as well….I think we need a break.
Yeah I didn’t see any sexual tension there either. I saw Amara trying to seduce Dean in a bond/connection/trying to control him kind of way and Dean in a trance like state. And I agree that Sam’s voice is what broke the connection much like it was with the blade (good catch). What was interesting was that Amara seemed afraid when her hold broke. And why does she need Dean’s protection anyway?
I totally forgt about the blade Good thought to ponder. But PLEASE if you had been asleep since the dawn of time and JENSEN ACKLES was standing there in front of you == well what do you reckon would happen Lets all forget the theories and go with that Sighhhhhhh Ohhh sorry that was a fever dream :D:D:D:D:D
In the final scene with the cage have another possible theory.
Lucifer is still there but in spirit only since Sam and then his soul were pulled out.
There is still Michael in Adam’s meat suit. I’m thinking those were his fingers poking through the metal slots.
As to the voice saying Dean, I’m thinking Michael. We’ve been told it was ordained that Sam was Lucifer’s vessel and Dean was Michael’s vessel. The Demon Tablet, now that Cas has retrieved it (and maybe the Book of the Damn if they ever find the darn thing) will tell them how to join up as Lucifer and Michael and do battle with Amara. The only trick is to find someone who can read the Demon Table since Metatron turned off a switch to allow a person to become a prophet.
Why would the demon tablet tell them to go to the cage, let the Archangels out and fight Amara. Nobody involved is a demon.
Between Death’s monologuing and the visions it should be pretty clear once they think on it. If not Metatron will give them a push in that direction.
Honestly at this point I think God is the baddie. I also remember when TFW was against heaven and their plans.
Not sure if the Demon Table will do anything. Maybe now it will just collect dust in the bunker storage. Just like to think outside the box (cage) and generally my theories don’t pan out. But it’s fun to imagine.
It’ll make a great paperweight!
Paperweight, great idea Alycat. Or it could even be used a door stop. 🙂 Wonder what other uses it could have.
A garden decoration or a tire stop to keep your car from rolling backwards, or as extra weight in your trunk during a bad snow storm or to impress the opposite sex, or my favorite, to use in place of your covered head on the pillow during a prison escape!
Love the prison escape idea. This is fun. The list of either valuable and not valuable can go on and on and on.
If Amara was gods big secret there isn’t going to be any answers anywhere Unless god kept a diary then there might be. But you would have to find said dairy so that could be interesting. So now they have tried Metatron with no luck The next logical step is the cage. They know Michael and Lucy’s spirit are there My goodness how are the Boys going to get to the cage. Will they have to do a deal with Crowely or will Crowley get there first Bloody Hell the season is looking more epic :o:(;)
The words to the song are interesting if anybody wont’s to read.
1) I’ve died for you girl – Dean died with the mark
2) They never get tired of putting me down – Dean constantly feels like this
3) I’ve been misunderstood for all of my life But what they’re saying girl it cuts like a knife – Dean again feels this way
3) Don’t let them make up your mind.
4) Baby I’ve done all I could Now it’s up to you…
5) “The boy’s no good” Well I’ve finally found what I’m a looking for But if they get their chance they’ll end it for sure
URGE OVERKILL LYRICS
“Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon”
Girl, you’ll be a woman… soon
I love you so much, can’t count all the ways
I’ve died for you girl and all they can say is
“He’s not your kind”
They never get tired of putting me down
And I’ll never know when I come around
What I’m gonna find
Don’t let them make up your mind.
Don’t you know…
Girl, you’ll be a woman soon,
Please, come take my hand
Girl, you’ll be a woman soon,
Soon, you’ll need a man
I’ve been misunderstood for all of my life
But what they’re saying girl it cuts like a knife
“The boy’s no good”
Well I’ve finally found what I’m a looking for
But if they get their chance they’ll end it for sure
Surely would
Baby I’ve done all I could
Now it’s up to you…
Girl, you’ll be a woman soon,
Please, come take my hand
Girl, you’ll be a woman soon,
Soon, you’ll need a man
Girl, you’ll be a woman soon,
Please, come take my hand
Girl, you’ll be a woman soon,
Soon but soon, you’ll need a man
Plenty to talk about and mull over, for sure, the the thing bothering me is none too deep: WHY does Amara’s MOC keep changing directions? It bothers me as much if not more than Sam and Dean’s tattoos coming and going or being in different spots. This seems a simple thing to keep track of, so why can’t the script coordinators get it right?
