Variety said this.
this year we’re going back to a more epic feel with a Big Bad and a quest for the brothers to unite on,” Carver previewed of season 11’s new direction. “It’s a pretty special Big Bad we have this year. It’s pre-biblical story that’s never been told, so I think it’s gonna be a really fun, epic feel, and the brothers are going to be really, really united in their need to take this thing down.”
As for whether the Winchesters can hope to stop the spreading threat, Padalecki was ready with a groan-inducing quip: “I think we’ll beat it, because we’re not the Lose-chesters!”

“We are doing an entire episode [titled ‘Baby’] in the Impala,” Carver revealed. “It’s going to touch on, ‘What happens in the moment when they agree to take a case and normally you cut to whatever and they’re walking in? What if you stayed in the Impala for another five minutes? What do they talk about then?’”She also reports that in episode 2 we will see Crowley in a way we never have before. Episode 4 is going to be a unique episode. Entitled “Baby” the entire episode takes place in the Impala!

Following the release of the epic evil, “now we’re left with the cleanup,” Ackles previewed. “Now it’s figuring out how to deal with the decisions we have made. What I like about where we’re going is the brothers are united, similar to Season 1, when we were looking for dad. We’re back to normal so to speak and we have a common target.”
IGN reports
The Darkness affects more than just Sam and Dean’s world — it ripples out to reach the world at large. Demons and angels will be part of the fight. Collins said, “So far, from what I have seen of the season, my impression is that we are united against a common enemy.” All Sheppard would say about Crowley is that he’s dead. He deadpanned. He did keep getting cracked up by Benedict talking to him with a stuffed hamster. That actually made the whole panel dissolved into tears of laughter.
Looking toward season 11, Carver teased there will be the return of a few fan-favorites next year, but kept mum, only allowing that “they’re coming back in a surprise way.”
Finally, Misha Collins gave spoilers in emojis at Bustle.
What do you think? What ripples will come with the Darkness? What kind of visions will Sam have? Which “fan favorites” will return? Who would you like to see return? What will be the repercussions of killing Death? Share your thoughts in the comments.
Wow, Thanks for giving us such a great time saving summary! Great way to take a peak at Season 11, really excited. So far sounds great with much potential.
I agree about the potential. While I will be disappointed if the Darkness is embodied as a “hot chick,” maybe the execution will be better than it sounds like. So much of what they’ve teased about the season sounds terrific. They have laid the groundwork for some truly exciting stories, and I really can’t wait for the first episode!
Please let the writing support the ideas…. please let the writing support the ideas…. please let the writing………………………
Amen!!!!!
Well they have promised that S11 is going to have a grand season long epic feel. I can’t imagine that a hot evil chick is what they have in mind. That kind of sounds small and MOTW’ish. Or Abaddon part 2’ish.
The only reason I suspect the Darkness might be the hot chick is because in one of Dabb’s roundtable interviews he slipped and referred to the D as “she,” then he kind of caught himself. Unless I misunderstood him, which is entirely possible!
I heard that too. Did you ever watch Buffy? I hope this isn’t a SPN version of Glory. That would be unfortunate. I am watching some early season episodes and one thing that strikes me is that guest stars didn’t treat their characters like cartoons. Is that the directors responsibility? Is it the directors job to make the actors portray their characters in a menacing/empathetic/innocent or whatever way? We need more Gordon’s, Cains or even Jacob Styne’s. Truly menacing adversaries that we could believe would be able to take out the boys.
Even if the Darkness manifests itself into an all powerful evil “hot chick” as long as we can believe that she is capable of destroying the world I would be on board.
I really agree about the guest stars. In earlier seasons even the bit players with just a line or 2 were usually excellent, including all of the demons and angels. Now the demons are a joke and the angels mostly merge together in one big indistinguishable blob. And many of the other guests fail to impress, like the wife and the student in HACF and the nun in PIB. I actually think maybe it’s the writing more than the acting? Or maybe a combination of the two. But there are still some excellent guest appearances. My favorite this season was the store clerk in the first episode describing his encounter with DD. He had some great lines and he knocked it out of the park. Also, I was a huge Buffy fan, but I haven’t seen it in years and I’m having trouble remembering Glory. she was from the college years, right? I thought the show went downhill after they graduated high school, although I still enjoyed it.
Dabbs slip in calling THE DARKNESS!!!! She and the spoilers about a 20 something femme fatal have me nervous. Been there, done that, not creative or new at all. Abbadon, Lilith, ruby, meg, mother of all….. Ho-hum.
TPTB do seem very unimaginative when it comes to portraying female bad guys. Why do they all have to be good-looking? Alastair and Zachariah were phenomenal bad guys, and they were certainly not hot young studs. So why do all the females have to be young and good-looking? I would love to see a female equivalent of Alastair as the big bad. Now who would I cast in that role? Hmmmm, how about Glenn Close?
Or maybe Helen Mirren?
The witch in About a Boy was great. The witch in Slumber Party was great too. I liked Mama from 4A’s too. The CW just needs to let SPN take risks.
They just announced the casting for Amara. Emily Swallow? 35 yr old that played an FBI agent on The Mentalist. So not a 20 something “hot chick” but maybe a 30 something “hot chick”

Well… she may be 35 (really? She’s 35!?!) but I’d definitely describe her as a “hot chick,” I mean she’s gorgeous, there’s no denying that. But it does appear that she has some “gravitas.” I mean, it’s only a picture, but you can kind of see that she’s not insipid or vapid or inconsequential. That was my main problem with The Mother of All… the actress was far, far too young to even remotely project any kind of serious intensity; she came across as a child play acting at being a bad ass and couldn’t actually pull it off. I had the same problem with vampire hippy chic…..it’s seemed ludicrous that two tough hunters and two tough ladies of the law had even a moments trouble with that lightweight. So, here’s to hoping that she’s a good actress with some real weight to her portrayal despite her very obvious beauty.
And I agree with you about the VERY narrow idea of women (both villain and ally) on this show… Jody, Donna, and Ellen were/are an anomaly. Can you imagine Tilda Swinton as a big bad? Or let them go REALLY outside the box and have a Dolores Umbridge type big bad…. she literally oozed evil awfulness out of every soft spoken and frilly, pink pore. Or how about just over the top cray, cray like Kathy Bates? I’d love to see this show take some risks in this way. They seem far more willing to go down the character road when it comes to men.
I think the CW wants the casts of their shows to have a certain look. No one on any of the shows is anything other than very to extremely attractive.
How sadly hydrogenous and boring, not to mention completely unrealistic. Even all of the older ladies are of the “cougar” variety with too much hair and skinny, leathery bodies. Yuck.
I just don’t know if some of these guest actors would be any different if the writing was any better though. The director should be able to tone down the performance or make it more urgent. Jared talked about that with a few scenes were Singer came to him and told him the rein it in. I just seems that the over loud, campiness is the directors responsibility. Any directors out there want to make a comment???? But I do agree there were some standouts. I think Ruth needed to tone down her Snidely Whiplash performance in the beginning. She got better towards the end. I liked her from the Werther Project forward.
Glory was the diva monster from another dimension that needed Dawn (the Key) to unleash her dimension on Buffy-verse. That was when Buffy died and the series was supposed to end (and it should have).
I’m not sure if it’s the actors or the writing or a little bit of both. I agree about Ruth, she was nearly unwatchable for me at the start… so totally over the top, but then she kinda grew on me and I could tell that the other actor’s love her and maybe that’s part of it. Did the writing improve for her, did she get her legs under the character or was a bit of both? Not sure. I do know that toward the end of the season that her character grew much more focused and therefore all the camp wasn’t needed any more. Maybe it’s because they introduced her as a character and then didn’t really know where they were going with her at the start. Then, when they really nailed that down, the character had so much more direction and therefore the acting seemed better. On the other hand though, I think that Hot Nun from PIB could have been reciting Shakespeare and would have been awful regardless. I am not sure any writing could have improved her character or either of the bland wives we saw (Corey from Halt and Catch Fire and ??? From The Khan Worm epie.) Again, I am not at all sure that better writing could have helped either one of them. Then on the other, other hand is Oliver the psychic and the kid from the gas station… I think those character’s would have worked no matter what kind of dialogue they had, but it can’t be ignored that their dialogue and characterizations were spot on and very specific, therefore they worked. I’d love to ask the director of any episode how much of that is guided by them or if they let the quest actors put their own spin on things? So, basically I didn’t answer the questions at all!! Ha.
So, basically I didn’t answer the questions at all!!
But I agreed with just about everything you said. 😀
I forgot about Oliver! He was terrific and I’m really hoping they bring him back. He kind of reminded me of Frank in some ways- feisty and funny.
