CW Official Press Release for Supernatural 10.20
We have the official description of episode 20, to be shown April 29.
SUPERNATURAL “Angel Heart” — (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET)
CLAIRE NOVAK RETURNS — When Claire Novak (guest star Kathryn Love Newton) gets a lead on her mother, Amelia (guest star Leisha Hailey), who has been missing for years, Castiel (Misha Collins) asks Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) to help her. Castiel feels guilty for what he did to the Novak family and wants to make amends by reuniting Claire with her mom. However, when they find out what took Amelia, they realize there is a chance Claire may not get her happy ending. Steve Boyum directed this episode written by Robbie Thompson (#1020). Original airdate 4/29/2015.
The return of Claire. There looks like a chance that Amelia may be redeemed. Perhaps we will learn she didn’t just dump Claire but, instead, was taken by something? What about Claire? Will she be more sympathetic than in her previous episodes? What about the Mark of Cain? Will that be absent from this episode? The last time Dean and Claire were together, Dean did not react well and that was before he killed Cain. Will Claire set the MOC off in some way? What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
if this episode is anything like 10×09, 🙁
We are actually getting a lot of synopsis from episodes. I mean three already… I think I will actually try with my teeth and nails to be spoiler free for the final. It will be tough but I don’t want to be spoiled. (Well, I want to but… you get the point) If there is surprises like Bobby was I don’t want to know! And I probably need to take cover in a bunker or something… 😀
But that is later and this is now.
For me the mother was dead or taken right from the start. I suspected even before the first episode aired that the mother wouldn’t have just taken off… hopefully the story has a good ending which is unusual as this is Supernatural. I think this was also the episode where Jensen and Misha took that beautiful sun set picture. Hopefully they could get that also on the episode.

The person who spotted Jensen, Misha and Kathryn on location filming the episode tweeted:
@lindieface I think they were going to film in a barn. Just enjoying the sunset. It was beautiful!!
LINK (”http://twitter.com/hushrules/status/575118675218337792″)
The cast and crew wouldn’t have goofed around if the sunset was to be captured for a scene in the episode because you’d have a very limited amount of time to shoot before the light would be gone.
Zzzzzzzzzz…. Oh, is there an episode of supernatural on? I thought I was watching Days of Our Lives.
Why I don’t have the same issues with Claire and that storyline as some do, I wish the last few episodes would be about the MoC storyline and build some tension for the finale. I had thought the mother issue would be explained or resolved at some point but I wish they had carried it over to S11. Or maybe they saw the fans reaction and decided to wrap it up ASAP. Maybe it ties in with the main arc, I doubt it. I hope it isn’t a momentum killer like Bloodlines was.
I’m not looking forward to this episode.
Since it’s confirmed that 10.20 Angel Heart was written by Robbie Thompson, 10.21 Dark Dynasty was most likely written by Ross-Leming and Buckner.
Kathryn Newton lives in la la land. These are things she retweeted around the time she filmed the new episode:
@gayshipp
@KathrynLNewton is the best thing that happened to supernatural this season, now all i need is cas and dean adopting claire and its perfect

@nohomodean
If I marry kathryn newton does this mean jensen and misha will be my stepdads

@destidicks
if Kathryn Newton ever comes to cons we need Kathryn,Misha,Jensen “family photo” ops

@squintyangelcas
tempted to make a kathryn newton, jensen ackles, and misha collins edit bc lets be honest—claire is dean and cas’ new daughter
That certainly doesn’t make me want to watch the upcoming episode more. And Sam who? It’s all about Dean, Cas and Claire as a little trio.
Well, if they have decided the way to deal with the “queer baiting” is to make Destiel canon, then I’m out. These tweets don’t make me want to watch this episode at all. As you said Sam? Sam who, apparently. I mean Heaven forbid the girl who was tricked (or at least gave very dubious consent) into possession by an angel and the only person around who was ticked into giving consent to one angel and gave consent to Lucifer only ti save the world discover they have something to talk about. NO! Apparently, it must all be about Dean and Cas’s need to nest and parent. I had some hopes for this episode from the description, but these tweets are not what I’m looking for in the show. I’ll DVR, read the reviews and decide if I care at all about the episode.
on 2 thought i will skip this episode too

I really don’t see that happening. I would also not read too much into a few tweets. From a teenager.
I wonder what the monster is that has taken/possessed the mother. They don’t clearly say what it is but that it might be too late. Hoping 1. That it isn’t a vampire 2. werewolf 3. a ghost. It might be a demon or something else. We also don’t know the situation about the grace that is known when this episode finally airs so it leaves me curious. At least whole TFW will be there.
– Lilah
Agreed Lilah, and I want to add a shapeshifter and Kahn worm to that list. 🙂 Probably demon (or angel?) but I hope it is something surprising.
A teenager she may be, but she is ON the show. Her participation in this idiocy validates that specific POV in so many peoples eyes and creates an environment of self promotion and self service that I find unattractive in the extreme. I am frankly surprised that she hasn’t been shut down by the PTB especially considering the way Jensen so openly and violently opposes the whole thing.
It seems like everyone is overacting, sorry E. I see a few retweets and nothing by her personally that is promoting anything in particular. I went to her twitter page (or whatever you call it) and don’t see anything that earthshaking. I don’t belong to twitter so maybe I am missing something. Are there some conversations that I missed? As for Sam not being involved I have NO idea. I heard that about the last episode too.
Hey, let’s not try to bring up behavior on Twitter. I personally find (from experience) that tweets are often misunderstood. Considering I haven’t read such tweets I won’t comment on them, but they have nothing to do with this synopsis. Let’s speculate on that.
Sorry SanSummer, but like you have your opinions she has hers. I have seen things lot worse in twitter than what she has written and I don’t see them wrong. She seems to like both actors, and the characters and have fun. She just suggests something some people are ticked with. But pulling tweets out for no matter who have tweeted them is well, not nice. Those start witch hunts. Like I said. She is not threatening anything nor anyone with her tweets and she’s not being rude either because her intent is not that. I just don’t think this is proper…
Claire is not my favorite character either but it is more how the character acts. I have nothing against the actress.
– Lilah
I think I’ll barf now. Talk about irrelevant. Last time I checked Claire HATED Dean, now all of a sudden he’s Daddy? Geez.
according to IMDB, Ross-Lemming and Buckner did write 10.21
Well, at least I’m prepared. I don’t know, this one doesn’t sound like my cup of tea and R-L/B are my least favorite writers, although they have surprised me. According to IMDB Dabb’s doing 22 and Carver is doing 23.
Since it’s confirmed that 10.20 Angel Heart was written by Robbie Thompson, 10.21 Dark Dynasty was most likely written by Ross-Leming and Buckner.
Shouldn’t there be a third Adam Glass script coming up?
AG should be next in line, but IMDB says the season rounds out with Dabb on 22 and Carver on 23. I liked Dabb’s last outing, so I’m okay with that.
Jason Fischer confirmed that 10.22 The Prisoner was written by Andrew Dabb:
DAMN! Cuddos to @andrewdabb for one hell of an episode. Mark your calendars for May 13th and brace for a bumpy ride. #Supernatural
LINK (”http://twitter.com/JasonFischer77/status/573990175908343808″)
And Jim Michaels confirmed that 10.23 My Brother’s Keeper was written by Jeremy Carver:
Jeremy Carver did write the season 10 finale of #supernatural! #SPNFamily #jimions

Since it’s confirmed that 10.20 Angel Heart was written by Robbie Thompson, 10.21 Dark Dynasty was most likely written by Ross-Leming and Buckner.
Not sure about that. Adam Glass is due for a turn in the rotation too. His last episode was “About A Boy”, right? Considering episode 22 has been going to Andrew Dabb and 23 goes to Carver, 21 could go either way. I’ll have to do some digging on that.
I’m rooting for Adam Glass.
I think it went to Ross-Leming & Buckner. Last season, episode 21 was written by them. And I bet Bob Singer wanted his old lady to write one of the end of season mytharc episodes… They probably plot the season together with Carver.
It probably is them, but IMDB isn’t exactly the most reliable source. I’m just trying to figure out why Adam Glass hasn’t been writing much, unless he’s been too busy running things behind the scenes so Carver can pursue his side projects.
I mean, Kathryn can ship whatever she wants but I hope she isn’t using the Destiel fandom to gain more popularity for herself and the character she plays. And I don’t care for how she as an actress on the show is advocating for Dean/Cas like Sam is completely irrelevant or even like Claire would be a replacement for Sam because Dean and Cas would form their own little family unit with Claire.
I think it’s safe to say that Claire is another side character who leans towards Dean.
I believe Jared wasn’t filming the day Jensen, Misha and Kathryn took the sunset pictures because he was flying to Vancouver on Monday.
On the other hand, when Jensen, Misha and Kathryn shot that cat video, they were apparently waiting for Jared. So I guess Sam isn’t totally absent from the episode.
Yeah, he can offer to get Cas, Claire and Dean coffee. I’m sorry, but the lack of Sam this season is getting to me. Plus every spoiler is how dark Sam is going to go, all off screen as far as I can see, so I’m not a happy camper right now.
Sam who? Clearly HE doesn’t matter one bit to this cutsie family trio. Maybe Rowena could be Auntie Row and Crowley Uncle Fergus. One BIG happy family. It’s such an incredible insult to Jared.
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Maybe I’ll skip the crying and just vomit instead.
I will say I don’t blame Kathryn for anything. She’s a kid. She’s in a field where you have to fight for jobs. If you hit certain parts of the Internet, you would get the impression that Destiel is canon and is the most popular thing out there. She has primarily worked with Misha who is pro-Destiel. Her interactions with Sam and Jared were minimal the last time she was on. She’s trying to engage the fans and encourage what must seem to be the most popular paring on TV. After her first appearance, the rabid Destielers started the whole Claire as daughter to Cas and Dean, she’s probably just picking up on the feedback she got from Twitter and other social media. I really don’t expect her to know the history of the show or why championing Destiel would even be considered controversial.
As to the character of Claire, the writers decided that once again, Cas gets a complete and total pass from the people he has injured. They don’t want what Cas did to that family to be seen as the destructive, selfish act that it was. So, much like last year when the narrative became all about how bad Dean felt while Sam’s emotional trauma was completely ignored, this story is about how guilty Cas feels and what a whiny brat Claire is, so Cas should not feel any guilt about her. She’s mouthy to the guy who got her father killed, but he FEELS BAD and she’s a kid who doesn’t have great judgement so let ALL FEEL SORRY FOR CAS because bad, selfish, bratty Claire isn’t stroking his hand and telling him she understands and she’s not respecting the fact that he’s willing to devote a whole 2 days to trying to help her and then dumping her when she pushes back in the least. I mean really, how can we expect poor guilty, wounded Cas to, oh I don’t know, get Claire back into some kind of social services so she isn’t running around the streets being victimized by men like Randy, or having to turn to prostitution because Cas sure as heck isn’t giving her money for food and shelter. No this is ALL ABOUT CAS and Kathryn isn’t responsible for that. All she can do is take what is being written, what she has figured out from the positive notes she got on her last appearance and try to give the fans what they want and maybe hope she can get on the Supernatural bandwagon. Why shouldn’t she want to recur a couple of times and be invited to conventions? I can’t blame her for wanting good things for herself. In the end, she has zero control over what happens with Claire, Cas, Dean or any part of the story. I wish TPTB would have told her to not play up the happy family with Cas and Dean aspect, but let’s face it, the people who didn’t like her wanted her gone and the people who want her to stay often want happy family with Cas and Dean. Who would you want to support? The people who never want to see you again or the ones who do?
I agree that it makes sense for her to cater to the fans who could make her appear more popular in the eyes of the producers and those who decide who are invited as guests to conventions. The more she can align her character with popular ones like Dean, the better for her.
However, I don’t think that she’s a babe in the woods when it comes to Destiel.
She has primarily worked with Misha who is pro-Destiel. Her interactions with Sam and Jared were minimal the last time she was on.
Yeah, I haven’t gotten the impression that she shot much with Jared this time around either:
@JESSlCAMOORE
do you think kathryn newton ever jokes around with misha and jensen on set about dean and cas adopting claire
@JESSlCAMOORE
and by jokes around i mean writes detailed 6000 word essays to the writers about why it should happen

@ma87775
@JESSlCAMOORE Oh dear @KathrynLNewton She must see this

@KathrynLNewton
@ma87775 @JESSlCAMOORE But do you think that would work?and yes, tons of joking and laughing and literally crying
It always seemed out of character that Claire’s mother would have taken off like that; just hope they can wrap this Claire storyline up soon; it just hasn’t worked for me. Then again, would be a nice to see Castiel clean up one of his messes for a change 🙂
So, let me get this straight…. we have an episode that is going to feature Claire and her missing mother followed by the ‘Charlie is great and can do anything episode.’ In the final arc of 4 episodes, when the MoC is supposed to be heating up and becoming a crisis (highly unlikely) that we are going to see two of those episodes wasted on side characters? At least Charlie will be participating in the myth arc (something I am very conflicted about in general) but the whole return to Claire, the ‘Queen of Destiel’ Novak and her missing mum and Cas’s relentless and unfounded and absurdly plotted guilt is preposterous. The Novak’s are the ONLY family Cas has screwed over in the millennia he’s been on earth? He’s never had any other vessel than Jimmy Novak… What about the families of all the vessels he’s so casually killed in the past year alone? Or the minister he killed while he was Godstiel? Or Hell, how about Sam’s wall? This whole guilt arc is moronic. I am SO not looking forward to this… NOT.AT.ALL. :(:(:(
Ha, “the Queen of Destiel.” Destiel fans came up with Dean and Cas co-parenting Claire after the mid-season finale aired. It’s too bad that the actress is still feeding into it especially since the upcoming episode is titled Angel Heart, which has gotten (canon) Destiel fans’ hopes up or made them even more convinced that Dean is in love with Cas and sexually attracted to him. It seems that she will use whatever she can to promote herself and make her character more popular so she can be part of the show and conventions in the future.
It would be really weird if the show tried to make it seem like Castiel is a great father figure for Claire. Castiel possessed Claire’s real dad and now her dad is dead but Castiel is still walking around looking like Jimmy.

It’s been very strange discovering that I have an 18 year-old daughter. @KathrynLNewton

Claire, the ‘Queen of Destiel’ Novak
I agree with SanSummer, that’s a hoot. Thanks E! But technically, as Dean and Cas’s daughter wouldn’t she be the Crown Princess of Destiel? Maybe Sam could be her valet, or at least the royal coat rack.
I honestly can’t believe that there will be no movement on the MOC this close to the end of the season, so I’m hoping the synopsis only tells part of the story. But since the first two Clair episodes were two of the biggest stinkers of the whole season, with very little Sam, I am not overly optimistic about this episode.
Me neither. *sigh*
