Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Castiel (Misha Collins) follow up on a lead about the Mark of Cain. Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Rowena (guest star Ruth Connell) meet. Rashaad Ernesto Green directed this episode written by Andrew Dabb (#1017). Original airdate 4/1/2015.
The extended promo:
The sneak peek:
Jeremy Carver’s Producer’s Preview
EW has an exclusive second Sneak Peek here.
And the promotional photos.
So, Sam and Dean will be apart for some if not most of this episode. Sam is being sneaky by pretending to go to the kind of movie that will bore Dean to tears. Rowena and Dean meet and from the photos it looks like Dean becomes violent, while Rowena watches on smugly. She is also covered in tattoos, maybe as part of a spell? Cas and Sam have a seance, with Bobby’s hat on the seance table. The poor psychic apparently never talked to Pamela about the dangers of working with the Winchesters and Cas. Sam contacts Bobby via Angel Radio, literally? Do you think Bobby actually knows something about the Mark of Cain?
What clues do you get from all this information? What does Rowena want with Dean? Can she use this to gain entrance into the MOL bunker? Or does she only want to destroy or control Dean? She claims she wants to save her son? But does she, or is it another power play? Will Sam and Cas get some answers from beyond the grave? What part will Metatron play in all of this? Will anyone ask what is going on with the Veil? Share your thoughts in the comments.
wow… they released a whole lot of sneak peeks and previews this week. Just curious why Mr. Carver is doing producer previews again; did he do any last season? Anything to do with the weaker ratings since the move to Wednesdays? I do recall he did a few previews during Season 8.
So it looks like things finally start moving forward this week. And, congratulations to Jim Beaver; Bobby is the only character, other than Sam, Dean, and the Impala, to appear in all 10 seasons.
Not really, they do this producer’s preview and sneak peeks stuff a lot this time every year especially when they have something to promote (Bobby’s return). It’s supposed to get us excited about the home stretch since spring viewing falls off dramatically. I don’t think the move to Wednesdays has affected things too much. Unless you are creating event television (like Empire) people tend to drop off their viewing in the spring and catch up later through binge viewing. It’s spring break in a lot of places for the next few weeks so people are busy. Almost all shows are way down right now.
Great point about Jim being in every season! I’m sure he wears that like a badge of honor.
Spring? Remind me again – what’s that? All I know is I went out for a walk last night and it started snowing 🙂
I just posted info about the Jim Beaver interview that my fellow roundtable colleague Sean at TV Fanatic scored (I’m so happy for him!). It doesn’t sound like there’s going to be a lot of Sam in this one. The Heaven adventure will be with Bobby and Castiel. Was this one of the episodes (or episode) where Jared only put in two days work or something like that? I can’t keep track anymore. Here’s the interview (spoiler alert!)

They are probably giving Jared some time off considering the intense way they have used him this season. I mean he may have been in five minutes in every, single, episode. That kind of thing takes a toll on an actor.
Really, they bring back one of the few characters with ties to both Sam and Dean and then decide he should work with…Cas?
But you’re forgetting the fact that there are SIX WHOLE EPISODES left to introduce and develop a story line for Sam! It’s probably going to be an intense six episodes with tons of Sam screen time and dialogue. Why else would they have sidelined him for 17 episodes? Clearly they want him physically and emotionally rested for the monster story arc they’re about to unveil for him.

Because if the article is true I will be very sad.
Sidelined for 17 episodes? He’s been sidelined since Dean got the Mark in 9×11! That’s 29 episodes, or more than a season.. but hey… who’s counting? Besides me that is…
In fairness to TPTB, after 9×11 they did give him enough screen time in a number of episodes to portray him as a jerk, so there’s always that.
True Dat! I’d forgotten… or more like blocked it from my mind.
Selective memory is a BEAUTIFUL THING….:D:D:D:D:D:D
They are probably giving Jared some time off considering the intense way they have used him this season.
Yes I agree :p;):D.Jared must be exhausted.
Really, they bring back one of the few characters with ties to both Sam and Dean and then decide he should work with…Cas?
Dean is Bobby’s favourite. You know he played catch with Dean.Sam was placed in front of a TV and they were free to play ball. There was April fools special on TV that day.
So…. An ep supposedly designed to finally evolve one of the forgotten main leads of this show with not feature that character much. What a surprise. More Sam in the background I see. Or more like more Sam off screen having his story developed through hearsay.
I really hope the article is an april fools joke.Really.
No way in hell do I feel like this is the home stretch.
Has to get better. HAS TO, right….
The last we saw of Bobby, he went to Heaven in Supernatural Season 8 Episode 19. So did you get to have any scenes with Sam and Dean or at the very least get to hang out with Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles on set?
It’s kind of a complicated arrangement in how the guys on Earth reconnect with Bobby. Most of my interaction and scenes are with Castiel [played by Misha Collins], which was fun because it’s the first time I can remember that Bobby and Castiel team up for an episode. And you know, whenever you’re dealing with Castiel, things can go haywire. It was really fun, and it was a nice kind of sneaky adventure with kind of going behind the lines in Heaven.
We had a good time, and it was great to see Jared and Jensen as well as Misha. We always have a lot of fun on set.

Is there anything you can tease about what’s in store for Wednesday’s episode?
Castiel and Bobby have teamed up in Heaven to try and access some resources and possibilities that don’t exist anywhere else. And that’s all wrapped up around Dean and the Mark of Cain.
It’s kind of funny, Bobby also discovers he’s not the only Bobby Singer in Heaven, so that’s kind of fun. And they did a great job technically making Heaven look like this infinite place that just goes on for light years. It’s going to be visually exciting, but I think there’s a lot of heart to the episode.
You know, for a gruff old guy like Bobby, he does seem to be able to occasionally pull tears out of people, so I suspect the fans will need their Kleenex [for the episode].
So what will Sam be doing in the episode? Castiel and Bobby will share a storyline, Sam will not really be a part of that unlike one might have assumed based on the press release. Dean will have a big fight scene, his eyes will flash black etc. Perhaps the producers didn’t bother to promote Sam’s part in the episode because it boils down to Sam talking to Bobby during the séance but not actually meeting him. Maybe the writers will try to play the Sam’s-story-is-told-in-the-background-because-he-is-keeping-a-secret-from-everyone card again. I hope that the reason why Castiel and Bobby will do their thing without Sam is that Dean will need Sam’s help elsewhere.
No…. Sam will be unconscious for some reason. Maybe the medium bonks him in the head accidentally or something. Then Cas and Bobby can have their thing, and Dean and Rowena can have their thing and Sam will wake up at the end, say “what did I miss?” Then Cas will punch him in the face (because Dean isn’t there to do it). The end.
You left out the part where, during the seance, Bobby gives Sam a hard time for provoking Dean into taking on the MOC.
And maybe there will be a meaningful scene between Castiel and Bobby where Castiel asks forgiveness for releasing the Leviathans, which resulted in Bobby’s death. After all, Bobby would much rather be alive and kicking.
Yet no such scene has truly been written for Sam even though Cas has hurt Sam deliberately. Even Dean, who is supposed to be the most awesome protective big brother in the world, let a lot slide.
Maybe the writers will try to play the Sam’s-story-is-told-in-the-background-because-he-is-keeping-a-secret-from-everyone card again.
Well since it worked so well in season four, making Sam never have a POV or any sympathy and since they keep reiterating that Sam and Sam alone started the Apocalypse and Dean and Dean alone stopped it, I expect they will write this so Sam comes off as evil and Dean comes out smelling like a Rose.
You know I was all ready to give this a go. I almost had good vibes for it. It sounded like it could very possibly be entertaining. With a chance for some Sam-time (even a little bit) And now I am just already disappointed, since when they tell us Sam IS going to be in an episode he barely is, so that interview with JB doesn’t bode well at all. I will be (pleasantly) surprised if I am wrong but it hasn’t happened this season so far…
Not going to bother with a live watch, if ratings are the only protest that might have an effect then (my single) ratings it is … and to think I had the chance to be a Neilsen family (at least I think that is what they were offering me) …
You turned down being a Neilsen family? That might have been your one shot at wielding enormous power over the US viewing public!
Yeah I know …. mind you I had someone call me up and tell me I won Publisher’s Clearinghouse as well. I might be a weeny bit gullible…
Or possibly not gullible enough.
Hard to know really.
Since I watch 1 TV show a week live …. and I no longer do that (as of the second half of this bad, bad season) , and I don’t have cable, I probably wouldn’t be a very good sample size for them anyway 😀
I was in the past a Nielson household. Don’t think I made a DENT.
just saw a clip of bobby and the three boys. sweetondean’s newsletter. I will still
wait 1/2 hour and watch it delayed so I can FF the tv ads.
So what’s Sam’s big secret again? That he’s still researching a way to save his brother? That he might have a seance? That he might try to enlist the help of Metatron? These are all things that BOTH brothers have done before and hardly any kind of a big deal. Dean’s secret though, that he’s destined to kill his brother is a doozy and nobody seems to be paying one bit of attention to that.
I am SPNfamily. I am…..
A whole thread filled with sarcasm and snark. Notice how nobody else even comments anymore apart from the usual suspects? “For fans, they sure complain a lot.” Thanks for making what was such a great site such an unwelcoming, bitter place now. I’m out.
dont blame us for you having thin skin.No one has directed their comment at you.
I think you’re missing my point. This place used to be a site we could visit to actually have discussions. Instead all we have is bitching, bitching, bitching. And then more bitching. And those who want to say positive things aren’t exactly given a welcome mat. But whatever. Enjoy your bitching place. It’s a shame that what was such a fantastic site has fallen to this level. Never mind, this isn’t the place for me to say these things anyway and I’m sure this thread will soon be shut down.
This is an internet website. No one gave me a welcome mat to “‘bitch” here. You want to comment here you are free to.There are people here who dont “bitch”.You can go the lets speculate thread for the recent episode and do your thing. If my opinion is the only negative one I will still say my piece .But if you think this is bitching place then you are free to but I just dont agree with you.
Yeah, I can agree that overall the discussion on this site was different before, when I look at the older articles. The thing is, the show changed. A lot of people, including me, think that the show isn’t as good as it once was so we have more to complain about. But still, a good episode (like last night’s episode imo) get’s more positive comments and a bad episode will inevitably get bad comments. We care about the show, so we also care when we feel that the writers aren’t doing the characters or story justice. On the let’s speculate article of this episode there are lots of positive comments.
If you’re unhappy with the discussions here, how about you start a discussion yourself? Maybe that will change things. Bitching about people’s bitching certainly isn’t going to help. But starting a positive discussion thread might. I’d certainly be interested.
Maybe the show changed so therefore the discussion around it changed speaking for myself the show I used to love discussing disappeared a long while ago. If you like something by all means say it there are so very good postive posters on the site .
