Guess Who’s Returning To Supernatural????
Laura Prudom from Variety just got the news exclusively and couldn’t wait to share this with her fellow Supernatural fandom.
In the April 1st episode, Jim Beaver will be back!!! Yes, we are getting Bobby Singer for another episode. We were only lamenting in this week’s TV Fanatic Roundtable how much we wanted Bobby back. Here are the details per Variety:
In the episode, titled “Inside Man,” Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Castiel (Misha Collins) need a little help from someone in heaven, so they turn to Bobby (Beaver). Elsewhere, Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Rowena (guest star Ruth Connell) face off.
Beaver’s beloved character, Bobby Singer, was killed in the season seven episode “Death’s Door,” but has made several reappearances in spirit form since then. Beaver last appeared on screen in the season nine premiere “I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here” as a manifestation of Sam’s subconscious.

I’m not sure what has me more psyched, this news or the fact that The X-Files will be coming back for a 6 episode run, with both Duchovny and Anderson. It’s a good day for TV news.

Alice Jester is the founder, editor-in-chief, head writer, programmer, web designer, site administrator, marketer, and moderator for The Winchester Family Business. She is a 30 year IT applications and database expert with a penchant for creative and freelance writing in her spare (ha!!) time. That’s on top of being a wife, mother of two active kids, and four loving (aka needy) pets.
Awesome! Is my not spoilerish reply. 😉

PS. And for the X-Files news too.
Cool! They kept that quiet didn’t they 😀
Maybe they ARE planning to start reintroducing characters who could possibly be in heaven. And they can’t even kill them off at the end of the episode! Win-win
I’ll take Bobby back any way that I can get him. That must be what the seance is for. I’d thought it would have been Kevin as he’s the one who might be able to lead Sam to the demon tablet, but I’ll bet Bobby is running heaven singlehandedly and probably knows a lot. Yeah Bobby!
And X-FILES!! YEAH!!!
That was the character I missed the most last season (oops forgot Sam’s head Bobby). Bobby has made an appearance in every other season of the show hasn’t he? I was thinking it was Kevin they would need help with but I’ll take Bobby any day.
I hope they do a good job with the X-Files. That was my must watch show. Psyched!!!
I’m going to be the unpopular opposing viewpoint. I loved Bobby. The episode where Dick Roman killed him was brutal but final and very well done. Tears shed, nice to know you Bobby. Then they had to bring him back as a ghost. No tears shed, watched with fandom as Dean burned the flask. Rest in peace Robert Singer. But no, he returns again in the horrible canon chewing that was Taxi Driver. Off to Heaven, RIP. When they showed Bobby in Sams mind, that was fine as he wasn’t actually there. Now they are going to have him help from his perch in Heaven. Hoping it will be well written. We’ll have to see. I just wish they had left it alone as the great episode it was.
I don’t know, he should have never died to begin with. He was immediately replaced with Frank. I hated that Bobby was killed. I hated it even more when he returned as a vengeful ghost. Taxi Driver didn’t bother me so much as it was a short role that provided a solution to the trial (and no the reapers didn’t bother me). Sam head Bobby was great. Hopefully heaven conjured Bobby will be great as well. Do we know who is writing that episode?
Oh I agree, they didn’t need to kill Bobby off originally but once they did they should’ve just left it at that. Bringing him back as a ghost just cheapened their killing him off in the first place. It’s like they couldn’t make up their minds. And that episode was so well done too. It feels like: Fandom – “*Sniff* Bobby, it was good to know you… What? Your back already?!? We didn’t even get a chance to mourn you!!!!!” Sam head Bobby was good it was all the other Bobby incarnations that I personally didn’t care for. I don’t know who is writing it one. Maybe someone else does?
10.17 Inside Man was written by Andrew Dabb. (The press release stated that the episode was written by “Andrew Dabb Buckner.”)
Count me in on those who HATED the Bobby ghost story. It’s almost like the writers immediately knew they’d made a terrible mistake and tried to mitigate it by fabricating a story that kept Jim Beaver around. The story was awful…. burned flask…meh….yawn. Bobby’s actual death was gut wrenching, his ghost death? Not so much.
Exactly. And the way they wrote the ghost episode with the ghost Annie was so – I hate to use the word cheesy but that’s the only word that comes to mind! Then when they burned the flask it didn’t even move me emotionally cause I knew one way or another that he would be back. Sure enough, he’s the innocent soul that needed saving from Hell! By the time Naomi released him to go to Heaven I was all – “good riddance, please let this be the end!!!” And I feel horrible writing that, but that is, for me, what they did to the character. Head Sam Bobby didn’t bother me but only because he was Head Sam Bobby. We’ll have to see how this falls out but I for one am not looking forward to Bobby Part Deux. As long as the ND aren’t writing it maybe it will be good?
I’m glad you mentioned The X-Files coming back because I was just gonna comment on it! We all know that Jared and Jensen signed up to do “The X-Files” when Supernatural started. Will the writers et al. step it up now that the show that has probably had the biggest influence on Supernatural will be back? I hope it will set an example for those who work on Supernatural in terms of what one can do with a sci-fi show, a show that has mythology and standalone episodes and a show that has two leads.
Mixed feelings about Bobby’s return. Not so much about seeing Bobby, who I loved, but I’m worried about how they explain the contact. Why Bobby in particular? If they can easily contact Bobby, why not contact John, Mary, Ellen, etc? So I’m adopting a wait and see attitude, but looking forward very much to seeing Bobby. I’m also very curious about how they set this up.
I think that they sort of established in season 5 that Mary and John couldn’t be found in heaven for some reason (Dark Side of the Moon). It was also this ep that established the most people’s heaven are solitary with the majority of people not even realizing that they are in fact IN heaven. Only Pamela and Ash seemed to have caught on and they were running a kind of spy network in heaven. All in all heaven didn’t sound all that heavenly really.
That’s why I’m curious to see how they set this up. I don’t think Sam can actually go to heaven since he’s still alive. But Cas can go, so how is Sam involved? If neither one actually goes to heaven, is it just through a seance? I just hope they give a good plot-related reason for contacting Bobby and don’t smash any canon or logic in the process. I haven’t said this in awhile, but I’m really looking forward to the ep because I’m so darn curious.
I hope it turns out that Bobby has the equivalent of his bank of FBI/Police phones all set up and is using them to stay in contact with other people in heaven, or maybe also with the people in the veil … (you know, the dropped storyline veil), or spy on the angels, as a result of Ash being able to hack the system.
It would be interesting to see if it turns out that the heaven in DSOTM was in fact totally fabricated and fake to screw with Dean (in particular), or just partially so. Will they remember this storyline? No. Will they remember this storyline because it was important for Dean? Maybe.
5.16 Dark Side of the Moon was written by Andrew Dabb and Daniel Loflin so it seems that Dabb is very interested in Heaven and the angels. He even named one of the angels in episode 9.22 Stairway to Heaven “Flagstaff”. I don’t think it was a coincidence that she was the one who Dean ended up threatening physically (under the influence of the mark of Cain / the First Blade).
That would be funny. we saw the demon counterpart of Bobby in season 6 which was pretty funny, so it would be interesting to see Heaven Bobby continuing in the same role as human Bobby. I too have always wondered about the version of Heaven in DSOTM because like E, I thought it didn’t seem all that heavenly to be alone for all eternity. Unless of course you were with your soul mate (or were as smart as Ash). And I had forgotten that Dabb and Loflin wrote DSOTM, so surely Dabb remembers his own episodes, right?
Wow….as much as i don’t care one wit about bobby. But I’m fairly impressed that Sam will get to interact with bobby. Unless sam is off in a corner as Castiel and Blobby have a heart to heart over Deans plight.
I’m fairly impressed that Sam will get to interact with bobby.
I will see what the interaction will be .If it is of the type that Sam had with wife in last episode then it will be of no particular use.
What a great opportunity to do stories including people who have passed to heaven–a way to get Mom, Dad, friends all into future stories. Yay!!!
Meh. Was hoping for Mark Pellegrino :-/
