The WFB Supernatural Episode 9.01 Spoiler Lite Preview
It’s so hard to believe that this moment is actually here. I remember when I first put up the countdown clock, when the premiere date was announced. It was around 112 days! Officially though, the gap between the season eight finale and the season nine premiere is 146 days. That’s 4 months and 23 days! So yes, the fact that we are finally here is truly extraordinary.
SQUEE!!!!!!!! I’M SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ahem. Sweetondean usually does these previews and will be continuing them this year, but right now she’s enjoying her whirlwind vacation in Texas. So you get my musings this week. This is a spoiler lite preview where I’ll be speculating based on promo photos, the synopsis, and released preview clips for the premiere. I won’t be giving away the farm, even though I really couldn’t if I wanted to. I have no idea what’s going to happen.
I’ve been talking with people in the know lately, and everyone is saying the same thing. Season nine is going to be a doozie. Everyone was very excited about it, more than usual, during my interviews with the cast and producers at Comic Con this year, so I’ve been chomping at the bit for a while now to see it. I’m sure they’re all up in Vancouver laughing at us fans, because they’ve known what’s going to happen for months.
So, how about we start with where we left off? Let’s see, pulls up “Sacrifice” on iTunes, plays the last five minutes. Oh, right. SAMMY!!!! NOOOO!!! CASTIEL!!!! NOOOO!!! ANGELS ARE FALLING!!!! HOLY CRAP!!!!! I’M FREAKING OUT HERE!!!!
The name of the season nine premiere is “I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here.” Here’s the official synopsis:
FALLEN ANGELS — Dean (Jensen Ackles) is frantic after Sam (Jared Padalecki) collapses and the doctor tells Dean his brother won’t make it. Desperate, Dean sends out an all points bulletin via prayer to every angel in the area, asking them to help his brother. In exchange, Dean will owe that angel a favor. Numerous angry angels race to find and kill Dean, but one, Ezekiel (guest star Tahmoh Penikett), gets to him first. Meanwhile, Sam fights for his life and must face some familiar demons to do so. Castiel (Misha Collins) struggles to survive without powers. John Showalter directed the episode written by Jeremy Carver (#902).
For those of you ignorant of musical theater, the episode title is a song from the musical Annie. It’s what the young little orphan sings after arriving at the home of Daddy Warbucks. I suspect that while Annie’s exclamation was sincere and full of pure joy, the angels are probably not saying the same thing. Unless the title is talking about somewhere else not on earth. Like Metatron up in Heaven. Or Sam walking toward the bright light. Hmm, curious.
Right in the center of all this drama is one rather shaken Dean Winchester. Castiel is MIA, Sam is hovering on the brink of death because he got worse from his illness at the end of S8 instead of better, and a bunch of pissed off angels are roaming the earth. Not good. He really looks like he needs a hug, doesn’t he?
We Supernatural fans are suckers for drama. We really love the one brother holding vigil over the sick brother bit. It’s been a very popular theme for fan fiction. Jeremy Carver, who is the writer of the premiere, knows exactly how to own us because he is evil. He even said so at Comic Con. He’s very proud of that.
We’ve had three scenes over the years of Sam holding vigil over Dean in the hospital, and now after eight seasons, we finally get one of Dean holding vigil over Sam. Well sure, Dean’s held vigil over an unconscious/comatose Sam in the panic room twice, he worried when Sam was seizing after they were injured and in the ambulance, and they had their little moment when Sam was in the insane asylum, but this is a regular hospital scene! We haven’t had this yet, right? Yeah, it’s a fine line but we’ll take it.
Just for fun, because I’m looking for ways to drag out this preview beyond what’s there without giving away any major spoilers, let’s look at all the ways the Winchesters have fussed over one another through the years.
Season one…
Season two…
Season four…
Season six…
Season seven…
Sigh. Brotherly love. Anyway, this is season nine. How will Sammy get out of this pickle? I don’t think that Death turning up is doing him any favors. When your reaper ends up being the big guy himself, you’ve made quite an impression in your life. It’s hard to turn that guy away.
But what about Dean? This preview clip shows how desperate and heartbroken he is. I’ll give the “tear inducing clip” alert now. He’s openly inviting pissed off angels to help him! The best friend of Castiel, the angel that screwed them all over.
Judging by the below preview photo of a bloodied Dean, the angels didn’t exactly welcome him with open arms.
And Tahmoh Penikett! Awesome! I loved him in Dollhouse, and I heard he was good in Battlestar Galactica (never saw it myself). It’s about time he scored a recurring role on this show. What exactly is he doing here? Gah!!! The waiting!!!
But I’ll tell you what’s the most curious thing of all. Bobby is back! He’s actually sitting in the back of the car, harping on Dean because he’s dead. He’s giving Sam advice in the great beyond! Why is Bobby there? Why am I so happy that he is? What are the odds of this opening up Jim Beaver’s chances to come back more?
This episode also shows Castiel adjusting to the weirdness of being human. He runs into another angel, and things probably get messy. This is Cass after all! There’s a certain scene with Castiel I know that’s going to happen that I won’t spoil here, but I can’t wait to see it.
The previews are a bit misleading, because they’re containing scenes from the first two episodes. The stuff with Crowley and Abbadon happen in episode 9.02, which is really episode 9.01 from a production standpoint. It was filmed first. So, just put a push pin in their stuff and we’ll save it for our preview next week. This week, it’s Dean, Sam, Castiel, Death, Ezekiel, and Bobby. That sounds like a wicked party if you ask me.
That’s all I have for now, but if anything else comes out in the next day or so about the episode I’ll add it here.
I was surprised to learn recently that there’s still some people out there that don’t know that Supernatural moved to Tuesdays. So yes, Tuesday, October 8th, 9pm, The CW. Be there. We all on the same page now? Then come here afterward and share all your mushy/excited/happy/angry/worried thoughts.
Enjoy the premiere everyone!
Here’s the preview photos if you haven’t gotten a chance to see them.
Alice Jester is the founder, editor-in-chief, head writer, programmer, web designer, site administrator, marketer, and moderator for The Winchester Family Business. She is a 30 year IT applications and database expert with a penchant for creative and freelance writing in her spare (ha!!) time. That’s on top of being a wife, mother of two active kids, and four loving (aka needy) pets.
I can’t wait, I am so looking forward to this. It looks like it’s going to be a packed season premiere with all our favourite characters in the same episode. I just can’t wait to find out how Bobby finds his way back to Dean and Sam, because if he can to it…. Pamela, Jo, Ellen…the possibilities are endless.. and that’s good news for me. Enjoy everyone, it’s going to be some ride
Thanks Alice, great lead-in for tomorrow night. I am extremely excited for this season! 😆 Especially after hearing all the excitement coming from Jensen, Jared, and some of the other crew members. If they are that excited about this season then we must be in for a real treat! 🙂
OMG! It looks like it’s going to be a hard one to get through without tissues. 😥 Poor Sammy! Poor Dean! Gah! And to top it all off, for some weird reason anything from Youtube has no sound on my computer. I’m so bummed.
Tomorrow! Tomorrow! I love ya, Tomorrow! You’re ONLY A DAY AWAY!
Can’t wait! 🙂
🙂 Love it st50! Ok all together now… Tomorrow, tomorrow…….

for #3 Sylvie –
At the bottom of the video, move the sound arrow all the way to the right. For some reason it shows up in the off position.
st50 – Ha ha! I swear, as much as I love the musical Annie, reciting the words to Tomorrow never even crossed my mind! They’re so perfect. Great thinking!
Osric Chau on his Twitter gave a tissue warning, but he specifically backed away from what we needed those for. So, I should probably list the standard provisions that are needed during a season premiere:
– tissues (a couple of boxes usually)
– strong alcohol (wine coolers and low alcohol beer are not appropriate)
– chocolate
– rock salt (hey, you never know)
– hot line number to your therapist
– anti-possession charms
I’m sure I’m missing stuff. Help me out here!
#8 alice –
For me, (lots of) tissues, (lots of) alcohol,….
-All phones on silent or off the hook
– duct tape for the mouth of anybody who dares to speak during the show
-the TV remote in a locked box
-And good friends on cbox, twitter and skype minutes after the ep ends. 🙂
*still singing 😉 *
I am so excited. S9 is sounding awesome. I absolutely cannot wait to find out what happens to Sam. Poor Dean looks so devastated in the clip and pics. * Hugs Dean* I just cannot believe that we are on S9. It has been one heck of an amazing ride so far. I’ve been watching from The Pilot and now we are about to start s9 and I am still as obsessed as ever. No other telly programme has ever done this to me. 😆
And Tahmoh Penikett! Awesome! I loved him in Dollhouse, and I heard he was good in Battlestar Galactica (never saw it myself).
He’s also good in Continuum, a Canadian show that’s being shown on ScyFy. He really is a good actor, who has the good luck to be based in Vancouver where lots of shows shoot.
To Do List:
Checking that Comcast haven’t moved the CW channel 300 positions to the right during hellatus is an important thing do, as I discovered last season….
OK, tragedy of mammoth proportions here… I have to WORK tomorrow night!!! 😥 😥 Holy Crap! What am I gonna do? I know I’ll come here and read all about the episode even though I won’t have seen it, and then get even MORE pissed off because I’M NOT GOING TO GET TO SEE IT!!! At least not until it comes out on Hulu or Cucirca which takes a few days. Humph. 🙁
According to the Hulu Plus site
The last five episodes to air on The CW are available the day after broadcast. Episodes available may vary based on The CW’s on-air schedule.
So you should be able to get to it pretty quickly. Sorry you won’t be home though.
Ohhh…

I envy you all in the states!!
Why ohh why did my parents move from Houston to Berlin. What an evil plan, they knew 30 years later they were going to destroy my life…. 😆
Bevie # 6. Thanks, that worked! Now I’m even more excited. Dean punching Crowley in the face always makes me happy. 😆
thanks for the lovely preview! warning: DO NOT watch the CHCH promo that has just been released unless you want to be majorly spoiled. 🙁 such a bummer when they give too much away … (i should know better than to watch!!)
also, alice (and anyone else who hasn’t seen it) YOU MUST watch battle star galactica (2004 – 2009). it is one of the best t.v. shows ever produced. i stumbled upon it 2 years ago and it truly is amazing — unbelievably creative and brilliantly written & acted. stellar cast. the production values, special effects, and sound/music are some of the best i’ve ever come across on tv. i am a HUGE supernatural fan and battle star galactica is another one of my all-time favorites. just a little recommendation. ha! 😉
everyone: ENJOY TONIGHT!!!!
cheers,
