i just think it’s because he’s the one who will be going through a change. my guess is that the change has more to do with heaven than hell. what i mean is, i’m not worried about sam going darkside….but i do wonder what kind of change one goes through after they had God’s energy/light pass through their body? 😮

I’ve seen a lot of comments on this poster on twitter and tumblr, complaining about perspective and lighting and whatnot. And yes, it’s got some issues, but I’m just happy to FINALLY have new promos!
Personally, I’d like to have Sam looking up at the camera/viewer/artist, too. I can’t tell if that’s his concerned, upset or angry look….Or some combination.
But just….Wow, all 4 of them look really good! Is it October yet?
Personally I really like the poster. I enjoy the dark and foreboding atmosphere! Sam looking down does draw the eye even though he is slightly back from the foreground. You are left wondering what is on his mind at that moment. They all look great. I worry that Sam is cold though. :sigh: 🙂
Is Mark Sheppard a series regular on the show now? I ask because the episode descriptor for Ep 2 says “Crowley (Mark Sheppard)”, as opposed to “Kevin (guest star Osric Chau)”. Does anyone know? It would also explain why Crowley’s in the poster…
I really like this poster. I like how they have the dark billowing clouds with the falling angles coming up from behind and the beaming light of the sun shining on them from the front, casting there shadows. It’s like darkness is coming but there is still a light they can aim for.
No one has mentioned that in both posters, this one and the cage poster, Sam is wearing metal cuffs on his wrists. Those were never there before, something to do with keeping glowing arms at bay?

Love the Cage photos! About the “cuffs” on Sam’s wrist… they may not be cuffs at all. My understanding is that someone on the crew gave Jared that leather cuff to celebrate Thomas’s birth and it has a metal plate on it with Thomas’ name/date of birth etc. You can see him wearing it in almost every con video since Thomas was born, so I am not so sure that it’s meant to be anything meaningful… then again, maybe TPTB decided to leave it on and make it look like he’s possibly restrained in some way to make the fans crazy.
I DID read a short but wonderful analysis regarding the use of red and blue in the Cage photos originally posted by Sydney Bucksbaum at Zap2it.com. I have enhanced the initial analysis a little bit with my own take on things, but the basic idea is not my own. Sydney noticed that if you look at all four pictures together that maybe the blue light stands for ‘Heaven’ and the red for ‘Hell.’ Crowley’s photo is almost entirely red, with just one small bit of blue in the lower right corner as though he can’t completely escape that bit of goodness the trials brought up in him. Conversely, Castiel’s is mostly blue, but with some red off to his right hand side, maybe as an indicator of his past errors? Dean’s is also mostly blue with most of the red below him, like he’s standing on it. Sam’s is pretty balanced between red and blue, almost perfectly half and half yet he’s tilted, almost pulled down toward the red light. I have no idea if the color scheme was intended to have such meaning, but I think that the analysis is very cool. Kudos to Sydney Bucksbaum who came up with the original idea, I think she may be on to something.
The poster is interesting and it seems like there will be a pair for it after the first few episodes – so you have to wonder what is going to change that they will need a whole new poster?
The cage photos are really good, there does seem to be a lot in them! I think the red/blue colour motif is really interesting but I also think the body language of all four characters is interesting too.
My take on it is that Dean is all sort of ‘Cage? What cage? I am where I am and that is fine.’ He can’t escape from the life of a hunter but he isn’t really aware / doesn’t consider it a prison.
Sam and Castiel look just resigned to being imprisoned – Sam to life as a hunter, Castiel to being human. In fact Sam has attached himself to the cage (fingers wrapped through the bars) which reflects the decision he made last season to give up on normal and return to work beside Dean? (I kind of hope I am wrong about this, I really want Sam’s role in the first episode to be about Sam making a decision because it is what he wants and not because it is what he is ordered to do … but … oh well we will know in a week or so 😕 )
Crowley looks like Hannibal Lecter. He is the only one who is actually a prisoner but doesn’t he look like he is in charge? 😀
The version of Castiel’s poster where he is holding a pig is very hard to interpret ….
