The First Supernatural Season 8 Preview Clip is Out!
I wasn’t expecting this so soon, even though we are less than two weeks until the premiere. The very first preview clip of the season has been released! Happy dance! It’s the big reunion scene from the season premiere. Talk about a big spoiler.
So? How excited are you now?

New Supernatural!!! Even if it is only a two minute 40 second clip, I’m still thrilled to be watching something new. Even better, we get a hug and a “Sammy” so I personally couldn’t ask for anything more from this!
This clip so soon was a surprise. Seeing it (and the Winchesters) is like running into an old, dear friend.
Looking forward to seeing where the story takes us this season.
Happy dance indeed!! Bring it on. Seems like years since S7 finale. Can’t wait for the season to begin and for all the reviews and speculations to commence.
Oh wow! A brotherly hug, Dean says ‘Sammy’ and Sam’s hair is looking gobsmackingly gorgeous. This is awesome. I haven’t been too excited by the spoilers that have come out this summer but I just can’t help myself now…I am so excited. 😆
Plus…awwww…the look on Sam’s face just before Dean says ‘lets do this’, he looks so utterly overwhelmed. What a great brotherly scene. Hopefully this is the first of many more fabulous brotherly moments ahead in S8. 🙂
I’m definitely excited!
But man…was I the only one shocked by just how feral Dean is in this scene? All I could think was, ‘dang, he has some issues.’ Which is understandable of course. But I wasn’t expecting quite that. My heart literally clenched with worried empathy. Sam looks great (despite the long hair) and I loved his flabbergastedness while being ‘attacked’ by Dean and realizing he’s alive.
And the Impala is back! 🙂
Definitely looked like the old re-energized Dean. Instead of burnt out and tired Dean. Wow, he was jazzed. I can’t wait!!!
OMG, the best hug! It’s as if Jeremy Carver listened to everything the fans were dying to see. The Impala, a hug, and Dean in high gear. And man, I can’t wait to hear and see what Dean experienced in Purgatory. Running for your life for a year would definitely change a person! This will be so incredible to watch unfold. I’m sure they will have their differences, but they always have and always will. They are brothers!!!
I was totally enthused by this preview, but I agree with bamboo 24… I was a little shocked (in a good way) by Dean’s initial brutality when reunited with his brother. What gorgeous acting by Jensen Ackles. Clearly, Dean’s been through more than hell, “running for his life” for the last year. Sam’s obviously rusty on the hunter game…. Reminds me a little of Dean at the beginning of season 6 after being out of the game for a year. It’s interesting to see their roles reversed. Can’t wait for Oct 3 !
I, too, was shocked by just how feral Dean was in the promo, but, wow, I sure liked this look at the boys. I thought the promo really gave us a good look at the boys we’ll see this season.
Something is very, very wrong with Dean. Is Benny possessing Dean? Inside Dean’s head? Is Cas possessing Dean or inside his head? Is Dean just PTSD?
Looks like Sam’s back to Stanford Sam days. I like that Sam. Does Sam have to learn that he is a hunter after all?
All very good and something to look forward to!
OMG! It looks like it’s going to be a great episode, precursor to a great season (I hope)! I think I understand why Dean would be so feral, running for his life for a whole year will do that to a person. And, oh, the hug! Best part of the preview. We’re almost there girls & boys, just 12 sleeps to go!
Is there anyone here who is more Sam-leaning who is really excited about this? Because I want to be, I really do, but I’m still not seeing anything to make s8 Sam either plausible or interesting to me.
I’m excited for Dean’s storyline, but that’s really not enough. Every other season, even when things have been uneven or imperfectly executed in one way or another, I’ve been excited about BOTH brothers. This time Sam’s stuff is pretty “bzuh, wut?” to begin with, and the whole thing still seems to pivot on the unlikely stupidity of Sam never having considered the possibility that Dean might be in purgatory.
I’ll give it a few episodes to see if they’ve got something up their sleeves, but I’ve never been without initial excitement for a Supernatural season before, and it’s very depressing.
Sorry to be a downer. I really do see a lot that looks great, but it’s just not speaking to me.
My good friend has been a fan longer than I and she is a total Sam girl. She is excited for the season. Sorry you feel differently. She told me it’s hyper hunter Dean and ‘normal’ Sam again. I see that. Kind of like in the pilot.
All relationships have ups/downs, swings in each person’s direction based on their most recent experiences or crisis. Sam has been living the ‘normal’ life for a year. And if you think someone is dead and are grieving, going back to normal is important to getting back to life. Very natural.
Dean has been on the run and been ‘hunted’ himself. They will come with very different perspectives. It will be interesting to watch them come to terms with their totally different life the past year and how they will reconcile all the differences that it will surely create for them during the season. Someone said kind of a reversal from S6 when Dean was out of the life a year and Sam was soul less. At least this time they are starting off with a hug! Yeah.
As for Sam appearing stupid. I don’t see that. I think he was just shell shocked when Dean disappeared and we should wait and see how in flashbacks they show us how he dealt with that. He probably has some PTSD as well, I mean he was probably still dealing with some aftershocks of the wall coming down and putting himself back together again. Then Dean disappears. Living normal for a year doesn’t mean he is dumb. And really, can we objectively ‘know’ what he thought after Dean disappeared? We’re fans and know Dean went to purgatory. As the character, if he had no hints from anyone all year, truly why would he guess Dean was in purgatory. I think he would assume he was dead, like Sam appeared to think according to the promo.
Sorry to over analyze. Everyone has their own perspective. Don’t want you to be bummed for Sam. I just can’t wait to see how it all evolves.
I enjoy reading all comments because it gets me more excited to watch Oct. 3rd!!
He did have hints, though. He didn’t initially assume Dean was dead; he was asking Crowley where Dean and Cas were. He’d seen Dean disappear before without it meaning that Dean was dead (in Time After Time, which wasn’t so long ago). He’s been a professional at investigating things like people disappearing since childhood; he knows that the person being dead is only one among many possible explanations. He knows that Dean vanished killing a monster who belonged in purgatory. Crowley gave him a hint about the weapon. He knows that it’s possible to end up in heaven and hell; why not purgatory? I’m not saying he should absolutely know Dean was in purgatory, but for him to sound surprised by the possibility, yes, that is stupid beyond the bounds of credibility to me. Even if he was shell-shocked at the moment, for him to have recovered to the point of normality over a year without ever rethinking the possibilities and reopening the investigation doesn’t make sense.
And Sam’s characterization looks like the Pilot to me, too, which is a massive problem to me. As someone above said, this is Stanford Sam, and, yes, I think he is going to have to learn that he’s a hunter all over again. Watching him go through development over seven seasons of the show only to have him revert to an earlier Sam and then watch him go through the development again, to the same foregone conclusion (because Jared has signed for three more years of a show about hunting, so there’s no other outcome possible) when I wanted to know where he was going NEXT after the enormous changes of the last eight year is such an arbitrary and disappointing choice. If I want to rewatch s1, I have the DVDs. If I want to watch s8, it seems I’m out of luck.
You’re not alone. I have no problem with Sam wanting to get away from hunting and exploring the possibility of a relationship, but if they write Sam as a deer caught in the headlights, then I’m gone. Sam grew up hunting and has been aware of monsters since he was what, 9 years old? He wouldn’t forget how to hunt in a year. Sam always had brains and he always had a plan. To write him otherwise is like writing Dean without snark. Those are their most defining characteristics.
Right now I’m clinging to the hope that he’s acting like this because he’s hiding something, and I’ll give it at least a few episodes to get the feel for the tone this season. But if the new Sam comes across as someone learning how to hunt all over again because he’s been fixing toilets for a year, I’ll be sitting this season out.
I just have a hunch that this season isn’t about Sam and his love interest. I think we’ll see Dean too much of a hunter and Sam too much of not being into hunting and they both work their way back to hunters with a heart — the two sides of the same coin thing, where Sam has to make Dean human and Dean is Sam’s rock of reality. I think Sam’s love interest is Sam burying his hunter side.
My one worry is that we’re going to have another season of too much focus on the guest stars…too much of Kevin the powerful prophet/hunter, the boys being Kevin and his mother’s babysitter/chauffeur, too much focus on the new angel and the angel storyline with a little Crowley throwed in. And I’m hoping that Mark Shepherd doesn’t go away in the guise that Crowley possesses Kevin’s mom and that’s the character we see as Crowley — that comes from the CHCH promo where it looks like Crowley and the girlfriend are zapped by Kevin and, it appears, lose their meatsuits.
I still have a lot of worries, having been lied to and salted and burned for four years now, but all in all, this is the best promo we have had for a premiere in many, many years, so I’m looking at what we are getting as filet mignon and baked potatoes, instead of soyburger and sweet potato fries.
Wow, I like your theory.
I didn’t really get the point of going back to Sam wanting to be “normal” since, well, it’s never gonna happen, but it makes sense if they’re going for opposites, what with Dean being a little, uh, feral.
I just hope they’re going to give a good explanation for how and why he settled down in the first place…
… but what’s wrong with sweet potato fries? XD

No you are not the only one .I have little idea of what they are doing with Sam? maybe the story as it unfolds will shed some light but at the moment it feels like ‘ok we fixed Sam now what?. I hated the quick fix for many reasons and this was a concern of mine about season 8.
I dont believe that Sam would be that clueless unless in fixing him Cas sucked out his brain cells as well but the season 1 idea they seem to be doing with Sam having normal , not hunting seems revisting something that was a long time ago and a different Sam.
But it could turn out to be good and I will be slapping myself for my concerns.
etheldred,
Regarding Sam’s appearance in this video – it hit me after watching it the 3rd or 5th time that it the way Sam inquired about Cas was a little odd. Perhaps it’s reading too much into it, but it struck me as kind of weird how he needed confirmation that Dean saw Cas die. He said, “So Cas is dead? You saw him die?” I would have expected the inquiry to end after the first question.
I also thought Sam was pretty calm considering he thought Dean was dead for a year. I’m not saying he knew Dean was alive. But maybe he knew something? Could be nothing, of course.
Point is that there is healthy mystery surrounding Sam this year. Carver talked about how what we perceive in the beginning may not be the reality of things. It’s likely that what Sam knew or didn’t know about Dean’s disappearance is key to his storyarc this season. The vagueness leaves the door open for expectation and surprise. And both of those can be very good things. Even watching Sam not having Supernatural problems for a Season will be refreshing and even exciting, IMO. I think it’s looking good for both brothers this season. Anyway, maybe that helps or doesn’t help, but either way, I hope you find something about this season that you can enjoy.
I am very excited about this season and very interested in Sam’s story. My take on the spoiler is that Sam has learned from his past mistakes. Revenge and obsession led him down a dark path that he paid a heavy price. When Sam was again alone (and really alone) – he chose to abandon hunting and not letting revenge be his sole purpose. Just my theory of why Sam did not spend every wakin moment searching for Dean. Of course, I could be totally wrong as surprises on this show always happen. Come on season 8.
I want Sam to visibly be changed by what he has been through that like Dean the scars have taken there toll .And not it to be that past experience in seeking revenge as dictated his decisions.
Dean’s Purgatory will be the visibly exciting story so they need to make sure Sam’s has a strong presence and they do this season what they failed to do last and explore Sam in the situation they have given him.

exactly more so because of Cas and Benny also
So. Freaking. Excited. omigod. Literally have just watched five times on repeat.
1. Dean SMILING. Fuck yes. This is a far cry from his return from Hell. I wouldn’t call him ‘feral’ per se… more like hyper-aware/overly cautious/full-on hunter-mode? Makes sense given where he’s been the past year. (man, looked like he cut Sammy deep though. why am I grinning like a loon at that?)
I love seeing him with what seems to be a generally positive attitude though. Looks like all that stuff Jensen was saying at SDCC about Dean coming back with a renewed sense of clarity is already showing clear through.
2. THE HUG. lkjaslkjfe. He said, “C’mere.” WHILE SMILING. And it lasted for.ev.er. This may be the least angsty hug in the history of Supernatural.
3. Dean’s face when he talks about Cas. #FEELS
4. “… and he just let go.” WHAT DOES THAT MEAAAAN? I know Cas is going to be scattered throughout in flashbacks, but really hoping we don’t have to wait another 17 eps to find out what ultimately happened to him. They can’t leave him trapped in Purgatory forever, right? Right???
5. Anyone else wondering about the mundanities of Life in Purgatory? The brief glances we’ve had so far make it look like an extended camping trip in swamplands with monsters. Curious as to how they manage to eat/sleep/shower/get haircuts.
I mean, their physical bodies are actually there this time, unlike Hell, right?
WHATEVER, I’M EXCITED.
As far as this promo goes i liked it.
What does Sam mean when he says ” I don’t need to, I know its you”.
Simply that Sam doesn’t need outside tests to prove Dean is Dean. Sam will always know Dean because Sam knows his brother.
Dean on the other hand…needs tests.
I was thinking more along the lines that Sam knows Dean is Dean because he has a hand in Dean’s rescue….or/and you are right.
I didn’t want to get into the fray until I saw where they were going. I’m still not sure what the destination is, but I don’t like the pill we are being asked to swallow; namely that Sam would never even engage in looking for Dean, or Kevin. And, it’s not like the writers even just ignored the fact because they thought enough to have Dean be furious and hurt because of it. So this wasn’t an oversight; it was a thought-out direction. I am hoping there is more than what Sam revealed in tonight’s premier. I can’t believe (yet) that they’d purposefully go that OOC with Sam.
I liked the rest of the ep. I like the mysterious Benny and want to hear more about how he helped Dean get out of Purgatory. I can’t wait wait to see Sam meet Benny. I think this season will be a slowwwww reveal. I’m cautiously optimistic.
