Eric Goldman at IGN is the latest of the high profile journalists to have an interview with Jeremy Carver. A lot of the questions and answers are repetitive of past interviews, but here's a couple I really loved:
IGN: Was it exciting for you, daunting, or a little of both that you weren’t going to be a part of setting up these storylines as much as seeing, “This is the last crisis we’ve left them with,” and kind of figuring out where those puzzle pieces will fit?
Carver: I don’t know if you’re a fan of Top Chef?
IGN: Yes, I am, actually!
Carver: The Top Chef challenge where one chef starts, and then the other chef is blindfolded and has to come in and start? It’s a little bit like that. The show always has the base to fall back on, which is the brothers. You can go a lot of different directions as long as these guys are at the center of it. So yeah, it was very exciting, but coming off a couple years where I was starting something — that’s still something I’m still working through. You’re being held to such an enormous canon. It’s very easy to be in the room and throw something out there, and someone’s like, “You can’t do that. We did that. We can’t do that.” That said, it’s worth it. I think the staff is feeling very invigorated and fun, and they’re introducing new characters and lots of new structural things to the show. It feels like we’re doing our best to keep things fresh and exciting.
IGN: Based on what you’ve revealed so far, I’ve seen some fans express concerns like, “Did Sam give up looking for Dean? How much did he try or not try to find him?” What can you about that, as far as what Sam was doing while Dean was gone?
Carver: I would say that I don’t think anything is done without good reason. One of the things in the show is that, particularly this season, people might think one way about one of the brothers in the beginning. Again, it goes along with perception. I would just ask people to hold on to your hats and understand that we’re going to be exploring each brother, the very complex and difficult things that they’re going through. No one’s hands were completely clean at the end of last season. What you think might be a bad thing — I don’t think you’ll think that as the season goes on. We’re playing with expectations.
IGN: Lastly, I’ve got to try… Jim [Beaver] was at Comic-Con promoting the show, so is it safe to assume…
Carver: Love him! No answer.

Man, Carver is SO tight-lipped about his season!! (Is that normal?) I’m impressed, but also going crazy. This is the longest hiatus I’ve ever experienced since discovering the show at the beginning of S7. It’s downright painful, lol!
Probably should have red-letter and bolded this for the concerned fans:

I’m so excited! 🙂

Bamboo24, I really must ask, why do you feel the need to ‘red letter and bold’ a certain part of the interview for ‘concerned’ fans?
I admit that’s the only little bit of hope I have left for this season. Spoilers have made me very pessimistic and I can only cling to that, to how things will be different from what they seem to be at first andthat we will change our mind after some episodes.
I hope Carver really means it. And maybe that’s why Bamboo thought it was important to remark it.

Simply because I liked the interview question and its answer, and believe it may go a long way to assuage some, though certainly not all, of fans’ concerns about that particular issue.
I think it’s going to be refreshing going into season 8 without knowing too much. I love spoilers as much as the next person, but I like that Jeremy Carver is trying to keep the mystery for us all.
This is basically nothing else then what we used to have during past hellatuses. Staff and crew are very cryptic with their descriptions of the new season. On one hand they are not allowed to tell what is going on and on the other hand they still want us fans to be surprised at all the new stuff they come up with over the summer.
And yes, this hellatus is slightly longer then what we are used to since the first episode will not be shown till October.
We fans try to speculate all the time and in the end it will always be something different then what we thought. Very seldom a fan is actually able to guess what happens.
My advice, read the spoilers if you want to, I even check the spoiler pics if I can find some. And after that: Just sit back and enjoy what you just read. Don’t worry about anything because it will always turn out another way then you thought and most of the time you will find out that you worried over something that didn’t excist. Live has enough real problems for us to worry about. And in case it should turn out the show goes somewhere you don’t like you might start worrying or complaining then. But it definatly is to early for that now.
And Bamboo welcome to your first hellatus.
Greatings from a fan since the beginning.
Yirabah,
I couldn’t agree more, and thank you. 🙂 🙂
Sorry, but this seems like what was done to Sam at the beginning of season 4. Sam was made to be the bad brother then and this seems the same to me.
All we get for Sam is romance and not trying to find Dean. How is that good for Sam? He’s going to be crucified again. Not what I want for my favorite character.
Right now, I’m seeing Carver as a male Gamble.
Not even a little bit excited for season 8. The spoilers have ruined it for me.
Every year people complain before they see the show. Do you really think Sam is going to look around and say to himself “Dean’s gone, oh well I’ll go live a differnt life?” Do you think he won’t be devastated that he can’t find Dean? Come on! Don’t be ridiculous; Dean is the love of his life. Wait and see what happens. I am very excited about the coming season and this eight year “journey” has been sublime.
