Jared and Misha Breakfast Panel Report – Salute to Supernatural New Jersey 2012

Sunday morning at Salute to Supernatural in Parspianny, New Jersey, another awesome gold ticket holders breakfast was held, this time headlining Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins.  Strangely, Jared and Misha’s presentation got started on time.  Anyone who's been to the cons knows what a rarity that is.  Both came out wearing blue shirts, but Misha was sporting a beard (perhaps a Purgatory beard?) and had a jacket and tie on.  Misha said he had to do that otherwise he and Jared would have been dressed exactly alike.  

My daughter was one of the lucky people to attend the breakfast, and below is her recollection of the panel.  The ordering might be a little off, but she remembered most of it.  She also had a total blast and laughed through every second of it.  (All pictures from the breakfast were taken by my daughter, aka The Winchester Family Business' newest unpaid intern).

Jared started the presentation by taking a poll of first timers in the crowd.  He then asked if everyone was sick of Sebastian yet.  Everyone shouted back “No!” Jared’s answer, “You haven’t met him yet.”  He brought up Richard too, asking if we’d heard the Comic-Con story about how he crashed at Richard’s hotel room. Jared was supposed to be staying outside of town, but he feel asleep in the car on his ride from Los Angeles.  He woke up to find the driver had gone too far and was in San Diego.  The driver told him they were only five minutes away.  Jared shows up at the E! entertainment party where there were many entertainment VIPs and network people and he had his luggage with him.  Ian Somerhalder certainly thought it was strange!  He ended up going to Richard’s hotel room and sleeping on the sofa bed there.  The next morning, he woke up and saw The Trickster in his underwear.  He thought he was on the set of “Supernatural.” 

The topic of the Olympics came up.  Jared is still having trouble believing that speed walking is an Olympic sport.  Why not untangling telephone cords and Christmas lights?   Olympic events becomes a theme of the breakfast.  

Jared, being the proud parent, touted that his son was talented in long distance peeing. Misha told the story about how he would take baths with West and his boy would poop in the bathtub.  Jared – “So monkey see, monkey do?” That ended up being a tagline of the entire presentation, “While pooping in the bathtub.” 

What quality would both of them teach their sons?  Jared said honesty.  Misha wants West to learn how to hold his breath.  What does Jared look most forward to since being a dad?  Sleeping at cons.  And he loves playing with his son.  Misha agreed with that as well.  

How long did it take Jared to get the glitter out of his hair after "Plucky Pennywhistle’s?"  A week.  After the episode he couldn’t wash it out and it would keep getting stuck in his hair.  He probably still has glitter in there.  A woman in the crowd shouted, “Glitter is the herpes of art supplies!” 

A woman sitting next to my daughter brought with her a picture from Scarecrow.  It’s been circulating around lately.  It really does look like young Sam and current day Sam (at the window) were in the same shot. 

Jared and Misha were both in awe over this.  Jared –  “It’s funny, I’m wearing that exact same shirt now.”  

Misha talked a bit about Random Acts, thanking fans for their work.  Jared too gave a thank you for all the charity work that fans do.  

A lady in the audience volunteered herself to have a speed walk with Jared.  He agreed and Misha joined in.  They each took a row in the audience and had a speed walk race.  I’m not exactly sure who won, but judging how Jared high-fived people on the way back, I guess it was him.  “I like my row,” he said.  When Jared got back on stage he was talking about his speed walking training.  My daughter shouted out, “Yeah, as you’re running away from clowns.”  Jared laughed over that and fully agreed.  Later, Jared broke into random speed walking around the stage.

Let the games begin!

Jared did reveal that he and Jensen are signed on through seasons 9 and 10, that is if the show gets renewed.  Misha joked he’s signed on until 2050 and will be doing episodes after Jared and Jensen are gone in his mother’s basement.  

Once again, height was joked about.  Misha was complaining about not being tall enough for "Supernatural" (even though he’s too tall on other shows), having a mock hissy fit.  Jared – “Yeah, that’s real manly.”  

Obvious fan observation of the day to Jared:  “I noticed when you were walking by your ass is kind of perky.”  The question, can she bounce a nickel off of his ass?  “Can you?  Yes.  May you?  No.”  

Jared told the story about how he brought his parents to the set and they met Mark Sheppard.  They loved him.  Jared wondered if they were talking about the same guy.   He routinely on the set picks up Mark Sheppard and shakes him.  Why?  “Because he deserved it.  Have you met Mark Sheppard?” 

A fan mentioned that before Jared met Gen, there were plenty of beautiful women on the show.  Jared had the easy answer.  “I only saw one.”  Sure, she made an impression because their first day on the set he was a single guy and she was a girl in her underwear.  They were friends for four months, and then he asked her to go on a lunch date with him.  He interrupted her reading and the rest is history.  Of course Misha during this “touching” story pretended to get all weepy, mocking wiping tears from his eyes. 

Jared also talked a bit about Thomas’ birth.  He is a huge Pearl Jam fan and when Gen was getting some rest after the birth he hit a button on the laptop and the song “Just Breathe” played.  He got emotional when telling this story.  It obviously ranks high in terms of special memories for him.  

That's all the random notes I have, but needless to say, the breakfast was just the start.  Both of these guys were in hilarious form during the panel later that afternoon. That report is coming next.  But first, more photos from the breakfast:
