We didn't get a lot of time with Misha, but considering the last two Comic-Con press rooms I haven't had a chance to talk to him at all, I'll take the four and a half minutes we got with him. You'll even noticing me mentioning this fact at the beginning of the recording.
Below is the video for your viewing enjoyment. I've also included an interview summary below that because I know how uptight employers get over watching YouTube videos from questionable fan sites during company time. Bastards. 🙂

Castiel will first be seen in episode two of season eight in flashback form. He will not be in the first episode of the season.
He was asked about how he felt about playing Crazy Castiel. He found it difficult how to play Cass crazy based on what was on the page. It was done so Sam and Dean wouldn’t have this power ally that could solve all their problems.
“It actually took a little while to find the crazy Cass. Cause we were going in wildly different directions the first few hours of shooting and then totally course corrected it in another direction and I think what we come up with worked. It’s also one of those things, it’s television, it’s so fast. You get a script and you’re on the set in a matter of a couple of days. I came to the set with an idea in my head of how to do it and Ben Edlund the writer who was also directing that episode had a different idea in his head. So we talked and it’s like ‘Alright, let’s do yours.‘ Now I create a new character literally over the course of five minutes.”
What about Cass in Purgatory in season 8. “We don’t even know if Cass survives Purgatory or not.” Cass goes into survivalist mode in Purgatory and that “stilled his crazy mind.”
Will this change Dean and Castiel’s relationship?
“That’s a question that is briefly grappled with and then answered, why Cass abandoned and we get to find out whether it is for good or ill intent early on and that sets the stage for what the relationship’s going to be. So that question gets answered, but I’m not going to answer it.”
Great interview! I loved how Misha is keeping the mystery alive as to how Castiel is really doing or even if he’s still alive. From what I’ve seen so far, all the cast seems to be energized by this new direction and I’ve getting very excited about the new season.
I’m thrilled with the spoilers and especially thrilled to have Misha back in the cast as Cas, hopefully with significantly more presence than he had in S7. I’m most looking forward to the Dean and Cas in Purgatory flashbacks: this character dynamic interests me a lot more than the brothers these days.
It was interesting to hear Misha say (in one of the interviews out there on YouTube) that Purgatory was for him a kind of ‘penance’. Sounds as though redeeming the character matters to the new-look powers that be. That’s got to be a good thing. I hope Cas manages to get out of Purgatory along with Dean. it’s the bit of news I keep trying to find…
So excited for s08! Just wanted to say a quick thanks for summarising the videos. I can sneak in and get my interviews and spoilers at work without giving it away with a video! … employee of the year I am! Anyway, thanks again and I can’t wait for this season. I’m intrigued with the whole ‘flashback’ thing and I think that’s a really good way to go. Otherwise they’d be rushing the purgatory thing so Dean and Sam can be back together again. In this way they can tease it out and take their time. I like it 🙂
