Sofia’s Review: Supernatural 7.22 – “There Will Be Blood”
“Cut off the head and the body will flounder.”
Let’s hope this little phrase means what we think it does because the boys have put all their eggs in Dick’s basket. In fact the whole episode revolved around collecting the materials they need to take Dick down. And all of it is based on the assumption that if Dick dies all his minions will follow. This makes me nervous because that’s not how it’s happened in the past. Killing an alpha shifter didn’t mean all the shifters died off. And killing Eve didn’t destroy all the monsters she created. But the tablet is all we have to go on and the boys are making their best educated guess. So there’s nothing else to do but go off to gather the three bloods.
Thank goodness one alpha escaped the prison before Castiel destroyed them all. That’s not suspicious at all. Did anyone else wonder about whether or not Castiel actually took care of that situation? I had assumed he absorbed all their power in his quest to become god but how is the alpha vamp alive? Perhaps his miraculous escape was just necessary to the plot line and in all honesty, that’s fine with me. Taking liberties like that is sometimes inevitable. I’m just still feeling a little suspicious about that whole situation. Maybe I’ve still got some trust issues of my own with Castiel.
I was very interested to see Sam and Dean’s reaction to the fact that Crowley didn’t know Castiel was alive. Meg had told them that Crowley didn’t know but I’m guessing they assumed she was lying. I still assume she’s lying. I’ve got all kinds of trust issues today! The thing is that Crowley is going to ask where Sam and Dean got the blood of a fallen angel, right? It seems impossible that they’ll be able to keep it a secret. So why did they bother? Maybe Crowley wouldn’t have helped if he knew Cas was involved. But he will find out at some point and I’m curious and excited to see a Castiel and Crowley reunion. I don’t know what it is about Mark Sheppard but he has a way of brining scenes to life. I’m so happy he’s around to be his snarky self again.
Dick has taken things to a whole new level now. With the purchase of Sucrocorp it won’t be long before the majority of the population is infected. We had figured that the humans would be fairly easy to deal with though. But the thing that really threw me for a loop was how the additives were also meant to kill any creature that has a taste for humans, with the exception of the leviathan, of course. That was very tricky on Dick’s part. That means killing the monsters won’t be any trouble and we saw last week how easily leviathans can kill angels. So basically, the leviathans are capable of wiping out just about every living thing on the planet. Talk about all-powerful. Too bad they’re allergic to borax.
On top of all the leviathan-related drama Bobby has decided to go all vengeful spirit on us. Possessing a maid is clearly crossing a line. His random outbursts were one thing and that alone already had Sam and Dean worried. But once they find out he’s riding this poor girl they’re definitely going to have to do something. I was hoping that if/when Bobby left it would be on his own terms but I’m not sure I see that happening now. I was happy to hear Sam changing his tune a bit though. A few weeks back he seemed like he was trying to justify keeping Bobby around which made me uncomfortable. It just doesn’t fit the mythology we’ve come to know over the years. And the last thing I wanted was for this issue to become another wedge between Sam and Dean but for now it seems like they’re on the same page. What do you guys think will ultimately happen to Bobby?
What did you all think of this episode? Are you happy with the way everything is coming together? Were you as creeped out by the alpha vamp’s pet children as I was? There’s still a lot to accomplish in the season finale assuming the leviathan will not be joining us next season. They still need to collect Crowley’s blood and the bone of a righteous man. Many people were throwing around the idea that the bone would come from Sam or Dean. It wouldn’t be the first time Dean was described as a righteous man. And Sam has gone through something of a rebirth with Castiel taking his satan-vision from him. What do you think? Are either of these guys still a possibility? Personally, I think they may go another way; a little research and your standard grave desecration. But once they have all the necessary materials, what is the next move? I’m assuming it’s a spell and I’m hoping it can be done at a distance but that wouldn’t be very much fun, would it?
There were some really great lines in this episode. Please fill in any blanks for me!
First thing first: I cannot wait to see Baby next week! Also, Dean was rocking that leather jacket, was he not?
Dick: “Keep Americans living longer and tasting better.”
Dean: “I have read this more times then the playboy I found in dad’s duffle.”
Bobby: “I’m in the veil. My Brad Pitt days are over.”
Dean: “Don’t say pie.”
Sam: “Definitely pie.”
Dean: “Bastards.”
That was one awesome fire trick that Crowley used. But I have to agree with Dean – “a piece of paper would have worked.”
Dean: “I’m gonna go in to toxic shock. I need my road food.” I would have loved to see Dean actually eat some produce.
Dean: “I can’t live on rabbit food. I’m a warrior!”
“This is for hurricane Katrina, you said?”
Emily: “What’s a Kardashian?
Dean: “It’s just another blood sucker.”
“You get a trophy in Stockholm syndrome.” Seriously. That whole situation was so creepy!
“Pac Man” and “True Blood”
“Vamptonite”
Alpha vamp: “See you next season.”
Dean: “Looking forward to it.”
The best part about that Kardashian joke that Dean made? SAM LAUGHED AT IT!!!! I love seeing Sam appreciate Dean’s (cheesy) humor instead of eye-rolling or bitch-facing! (these can be funny too, but seeing him smile is just TOPS!) lol… 😀
I literally just finished watching the episode again, and I enjoyed it a bit more the second time through; mainly because there were some really great brother moments and I’ve been starved for some of those!
I have no idea what’ll become of Bobby, and it concerns me! 🙁
I don’t think Crowley knows Cas is around, but I think he suspects something…thus his “fishing” for a reaction by mentioning angels. I’m curious to see what this Dick/Crowley meeting turns into…and I definitely don’t think the weapon, whatever it is, can be used from afar! Which means people will get hurt/die/who knows!!!
Next week looks to be intense, and the thought of seeing the Impala in action again makes me all fluttery!!! I bet we see every piece of the puzzle come together, to create some interesting results!
I agree that it’s hilarious when Sam actually laughs at Dean’s jokes. I feel bad for the guy sometimes!
I loved this episode and I love Dick Roman, it’s going to be a pity to see him go. I’ve got one more line for you that made me spew. When Dick tells his assistant to get the television lady and he tells her to call up Fieri for a barbecue. I knew there had to be something about Guy Fieri! No one can eat that much junk food and not be a Leviathan.
So many reviews!! No Turducken for TWFB writers, it seems. Duracell bunnies, the lot of you…..
I must admit, I’m finding the whole idea of ‘Cut off the head and the body will flounder’ rather intriguing, and a little worrisome. I’d rather hoped that Sam and Dean would find a way to get the Leviathans back into Purgatory, rather than killing them off because I’d be wary about having a whole race (can the Leviathans be called a race? Should it be a species?) of monsters being killed off. That would disrupt the natural order something awful. (Death is gonna be pissed!) And given that the angel population is at a minimum at the moment, that would leave demons as the dominant race so unless Sam and Dean start setting up demon schools all over the country (the world, hey I’m sure we got demons over here too) I’d like to see the natural order a but more natural.
I do think that either Sam or Dean is a possibility for the righteous man bone but I don’t think it will be either. Partly because if it were either Sam or Dean I think it would lead to a serious divide among some fans but also because it’s so unclear as to what righteous ala Supernatural is. Did Dean lose his righteousness when he said no to Michael or because he was ordained righteous would he still be righteous no matter what he did? Can Sam not be deemed righteous because of how he was ordained at birth because if we are looking at solely a person’s intentions and actions then Sam would be right up there. John, Bobby, Kevin, Jody Mills would all in with a shout. Adam, as the only character on the show who followed the angels plan could definitely be up for a spot of deboning. I’d love for it to be Adam, mainly because he’s gotten such an unbelievable thrashing from some quarters that I’d like for something positive to be associated with the character and also because it might bring some finality to the ‘Where is Adam?’ mystery.
In relation to the Alpha Vamp, this ‘nurturing’ of children from a young age, moulded to suit his purpose definitely ramps up his creepy factor. Leviathans are all about the instant gratification, ‘I like you, I’ll eat you. I don’t like you, I’ll eat you’. That can be a bit dull. The Alpha Vamp showed incredible patience with what he’s doing. He’s in it for the long haul. He waits, and he plans, he chooses and he acts. He has a brain, he’s not just acting on impulse like the Leviathans are. That’s scary.
I think Crowley is going to betray the snot out of everyone. He knows what he’s worth. I wouldn’t put it past him to auction off his blood to the highest bidder. I’d love to see him get eaten. Mainly because he kinda wrecks my head but also because I think it’d be hilarious to see Dick standing there, big Leviathan head on him and his big Leviathan mouth wide open with Crowley’s two legs just sticking out of it, shaking away. That’d be fun.
Honestly, I can’t figure out how SPN gets away with constantly insulting various pop culture people ie Kim Kardashian and Snooki. Okay, I don’t watch those programmes but seriously, how have they not been sued at this stage?? There’s no-one they won’t take a dig at!
While the lines you quoted were all good, I thought the silent moments were awesome in this. Dean’s look of hope as he picks up the ‘natural’ pie and Sam’s look when Dean is giving his ‘I’m a warrior’ spiel. I can’t make out if it’s his ‘Oh man, I’m going to have to listen to this for next God knows how long’ or his ‘Dude, I’ve been sneaking bits of broccoli into your burgers since I was four’ face. (You know he has. There’s no way Dean would have the physique he has if he were just eating burgers and pie.)
Man, only one more episode. As majorly ticked off as I’ve been with parts of this season, it does sadden me to say that.
Thanks Sofia.
I would love some closure to the Adam story. And it would make sense that he would be the righteous man. Although if you’ve seen the preview clip I think we already know who the righteous man ends up being. I won’t spoil it for you in case you haven’t seen it.
I agree that the idea of killing of a whole species is troublesome. And to think it could happen by simply killing Dick is a little far fetched in my opinion. It’s got to be one heavy spell!
The alpha vamp has always been much scarier to me than the Leviathan. The Levi have been threatening but I’ve never been truly scared of any of them. I prefer a more cold and calculated villain like the alpha vamp. Plus Rick Worthy really brings it every time.
As much as I can’t stand Crowley I’d be sorry to see him go. His character is just way too interesting!
Thanks for the comments!
I KNOW NO ONE AGREES WITH ME BUT I HATE, HATE, HATE THAT BROWN LEATHER JACKET. I ALWAYS THINK OF LEATHER AS BLACK & WHAT IS WITH THOSE TWO UGLY CHEST POCKETS. IT SEEMS SMALL & TIGHT IMO.
I HOPE DICK RETURNS, THEIR IS A CLIFFHANGER SERA TOLD US THAT SO ITS EITHER DICK OR BOBBY, YES?
I LOVE DICK & CROWLEY SCENES.
YES THE SEE U NEXT SEASON LINE WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT WAY FOR THEM TO TELL US IT WAS RENEWED. The information superhighway can not be stopped.
THERE IS NO REASON WHY THAT PAINTING OF MICHAEL STABBING LUCIFER SHOULD NOT BE IN THE ALPHA VAMPS HOUSE. LUCIFER HATES DEMONS, HUMANS, EVERYTHING.
I THINK CROWLEY KNOWS CASTIEL IS BACK. JUST TESTING THE BOYS.
THE BONE WILL BE FROM A NUN. WHO, HOW & WHERE I DO NOT KNOW.
OK, THIS IS TO LONG. CANT WAIT FOR FRIDAY !!!!!!
great review. Love all of you on this site. Just a couple of thoughts.
About Bobby…I don’t care how why or by what but JUST BRING BOBBY BACK.
I love Dean’s jacket but still really sad the original was stolen Hope whoever has it rots in hell!
The Impala is back last episode of season. Oh how I have missed Baby as much as Dean has. That was a stupid idea to lose the Impala for practically a whole season, even if it gave the show a chance to do a well deserved make over. Ok that’s it.
Tim – “spot of deboning” almost spewed my soda all over my laptop on that one. Love your comments almost as much as the reviews!
