Supernatural official Description of Episode 7.21 “Reading Is Fundamental”
The CW released the official description of episode 7.21 “Reading Is Fundamental†which airs on May 3rd.
CASTIEL AWAKENS FROM HIS COMATOSE STATE — Meg (guest star Rachel Miner) calls Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) and tells them Castiel (guest star Misha Collins) is awake and talking. Meanwhile, a teenager named Kevin (guest star Osric Chau) gets hit by a bolt of lightening and is turned into a reluctant prophet. Sam and Dean believe Kevin holds the key to defeating the Leviathans but must fight off two Archangels who want him for their own purposes.
The episode was written and directed by Ben Edlund.
So is God now stepping in I wonder, and are the archangels back? I thought that storyline was over and done with (last season…) I wonder if we will see Michael again (we might get some closure on poor old Adam) or will there be a few new archangels introduced?
I thought Castiel was catatonic, not comatose. Ooooh, maybe he’s been promoted to archangel. Given the amount of times he’s been brought back to life God sure does seem to like him.
This one is going to be interesting, for sure.
Thanks Sablegreen.
It appears whoever wrote this doesn’t know the difference between catatonic and comatose.
Agree, just glad the Angels are coming back (if only for a short period) I love em and love Cass and Love Bobby, heck I even love Crowley and the Devil (not really) lol.
Written and directed by BE? Good times. And since I always thought God was back in the picture somehow, I hope this will be the evidence of that.
News about archangels, prophets, resurrection of the angel storyline, and the probability of Jake Abel as Michael (whether a cameo or an episode — he tweeted he was headed to Vancouver) is a major bum for me.
Granted, I’m sure BE will pull off a good episode, but it all sounds like the same old continuing story. I couldn’t be more disappointed in this news.

I think I read that they are starting filming for the new Percy Jackson movie so that may be why he is in Vancouver. Just a thought.
The archangels are back?? Oh dear. I’d been thinking that the angel storyline was over and done with. I also couldn’t be more disappointed by this news.
I’m looking forward to seeing some closer with Adam and Michael-to me the story was left hanging, especially when Michael was as strong as Lucifer. And as far as help with the Leviathans-maybe the angels and the demons are the only two earth-connected species strong enough to fight them.
It’s hard to say where this will lead. I remember reading an interview with Ben Endlund where he stated that there were four archangels: Michael, Lucifer, Gabriel, and Raphael. I hope BE remembers this and doesn’t try to add to the “four pillars”.
As for God and the angels, I know some people hate it, but it’s a direction the writers and Kripke took in season four and it became a HUGE cornerstone of characterization, theme, and story telling. Just dropping it, as if it never happened, (as i felt they did in season 7) has been a huge bummer for me. I feel the show has lost some of its meaning (and I don’t mean this from a spiritual perspective).
What I do hope doesn’t happen is to bring back Jake as Michael and use Misha’s Cas to portray Lucifer. Imagine watching brother Adam and angel Cas besting the Leviathan rather than watching Sam and Dean be the heroes!!!!
