Fan Project: A Special Thank You For The SPN Crew
Fan Project: A Special Thank You For SPN The Crew
Not too long ago, I asked the WFB family how they met “Supernatural.” Some of those stories got me to thinking, and therefore, I am coming to you this time with another request. But let me explain my train of thought first.
We all love “Supernatural;” otherwise we wouldn’t be here. We, the fans, tell the actors at the cons constantly how much we love and appreciate their work. Sometimes there are even others at a con, like writers, directors, or maybe even a crew member, and then we are able to extend our love and thanks to them, too. But that happens very seldom.
The actors and writers get the reaction of the fans through cons, twitters, comments, etc. But barely anybody thought about thanking the crew for the wonderful job they do. Even so, Jared and Jensen mention them often enough during cons and thank them. There hasn’t been much from the fans (at least I wouldn’t know about it).
So I figured it is about time that somebody does something about that. After all, where would our show be without the people from the various departments, e.g. camera, lighting, sound, location, make-up, dressing, transportation, stunt, special effects, and others?
I wanted to make a book with the stories from that “How I Met ‘Supernatural'” article and put those comments in kind of a thank you for the crew: a book they would be able to pass around and enjoy. Then I mailed Alice about that idea since I didn’t want to use anybody’s story without their knowledge. Alice’s reaction to it was “It’s a great idea! Other fans have done similar things, why not us?”
I have a program to make a high-quality, high-gloss picture book. Some of the Germans amongst us might have seen one of the dm-Fotobücher before and can vouch for its high quality.
I kept thinking about it, and then I thought if it is going to be a book from TWFB to the crew, everybody on here should have a chance to comment specifically, if they want to.
So here is my request to TWFB-Family: What would you like to thank the crew for?
I would like to thank the crew for sticking together for such a long time and working so hard. Some of them do that during ungodly hours just to bring us our pleasure. My special thanks goes to the special effects department. I always enjoy it when there is a “Making of …” of a movie on my TV. My favourite ones are “Terminator 2,” “Star Wars,” “Lord of the Rings,” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Can you guess why? Of course the special effects. I have no knowledge whatsoever how they are done, and that might be the reason why they fascinate me so much. And after seeing those “Making of …” I am in extreme awe of what the special effects team on “Supernatural” is able to come up with on such a low budget. Some of those effects are obvious, like the demon smoke or the light that combined Soulful Sam with Soulless Sam, but some of those effects we, the fans, don’t realize because it is just something to deceive our eyes, like the opening scene of “Nightshifter” where it looks like a camera shooting the scene outside the bank from a rooftop but in reality it’s all special effect, even the people walking around. One of my dreams is to be a fly on Ivan Hayden’s shoulder and watch him and his crew do their magic.
But beware it will end up in a book. Don’t worry about any grammar or writing mistakes. Tim the Enchanter is an English Teacher and she will be the lector on this. I think it would also be nice if you could include the country you are writing from at the end of the comment.
Here’s a sample of the page:
I have heard many of the actors mention that the Supernatural crew is like a family and that certainly comes across on the TV screen. I would like to thank the cast and crew for working so hard over these last 6 years and for putting out such a compelling show week after week. No other show I watch has evolved and held my attention over the years like Supernatural has. There is something almost, I don’t know “supernatural” about how wonderful the show is and I am sure that has much to do with the dedication of the cast and crew. Here’s to season 7, and hopefully many more!

I think this is a wonderful idea, Yirabah. Thank you for this idea and thank you to TWFB staff for agreeing. Here is my story:
I met the world of ‘Supernatural’ through my sister, Maylin. She wanted me to watch it. I liked what little I saw, although I admit that I judged that amount I saw as a sample of good, but cliche TV. I also didn’t like Dean, finding him abrasive to my feminist mindset at the time. (I preferred Sam.) Also, I was already hooked to ‘Prison Break’ and Wentworth Miller at the time and I didn’t want to be ‘unfaithful.’
I gave SPN a try again after PB ended. AND I GOT HOOKED–BIG TIME. (Maybe because I got lucky enough to watch a lovely episode.) Started seeing the show and the characters differently. Loved most of the story lines and the way the directors and the camera told the stories. (One gripe: All non-Christian supernatural are evil? Seriously?) Loved the acting of the stars and most of the guests. Learned to see Dean differently, so am now a ‘Sam & Dean’ Cougar Lady. Got to learn about the fans and SPN fan fiction.
YES, we fans wouldn’t be enjoying the show and the cast without the SPN CREW. I like the fact that you could do so much with a small budget. I like the fact that Kripke, Sera, and the writers can put in some controversial ideas and get away with it. Your show never fails to give me tips on how I can tell/present my stories better. THANK YOU, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE JOY YOU HAVE GIVEN US! 😆

The first thing I ever saw of Supernatural was a ‘Best of’ Video of funny moments between the brothers on youtube and I thought to myself: What the hell is that show? About 5 hours later I had bought the first season and a week later all five seasons that were out at the time. And I haven’t regretted it for one minute. Since I became a fan of this show I starting writing again, spend my free time drawing fan-arts or cut videos to good old Rock Music. I think I speak for many fans when I say that Supernatural is one of the very few shows that people not only watch, but carry with them into their everyday life.
A huge part of that is thanks to the awesome crew behind the scenes that keeps this monster growling and growing week after week. I can’t thank you enough from the depth of my heart for the hard work you guys put into this. Many people may say: ‘Hey, it’s just a TV show’ but to us fans it is more than that. We gasp when a explosion shakes the screen, or a ghost flickers into the frame out of nowhere. We tear our hair out when the lightning, the angles and music of a scene makes it nearly impossible to sit still in anticipation of whats to come. We laugh every time one of the crazy motel rooms manages to outshine our favourite actors and melt in front of the screen when Sam’s hair sits just perfectly again.
And also a big thanks to the lovely people who make sure that this amazing
crew is always well fed and looked after.
You guys are amazing, and I hope we keep on Rocking for many more years!

Ok….is that too long? I just couldn’t stop….I love them all so much!!!
No Julia, it’s perfect. I will make it fit. So I might only be able to fit one little picture in. Got a favouite scene?
Well…considering the occasion…how about the scene at the end of 4×10 Heaven and Hell, where they sit on the Impala and talk about their feelings *lol* specifically the shot where they bump their beer bottles
I have been a fan of Supernatural from the 1st season on. The stories and the brothers’ relationship may be the heart of the show, but the all-important skin and bones are the crew. Without you there would be no delicious motel rooms, no freaky monsters and shiveringly realistic gore, no subtle lighting, fantastic locations, atmospheric music…. I could go on and on. A few favorites: the motel room in “Dream a Little Dream,” (set decoration), the watery ghost-crash in “Red Sky at Morning,” (sfx) the old bank/vampire nest in “Live Free or Twihard,” (location scouting), the camera flare on Dean in “Bloodlust.” Again, I could go on and on.
Somebody once said “It takes a village.” The context was completely different, but the sentiment is so true. You, the crew, are that village, the one that makes Supernatural look and feel and sound so good every week. We the fans know you work your butts off to do it, and we love that you do it, we love the pride you take in it, and we love you. Many thanks from Andi in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
(Long-winded, I know. Hope it’s okay. Wonderful idea and thanks for spearheading it.)
I would like to thank the crew for putting up with all of that rain in Vancouver. I didn’t realize that it rained so much there until I started paying attention to how many scenes showed wet streets. Not only do the crew members have to work in that dreariness, they also manage to shoot the scenes and light them so that you really have to pay attention sometimes to even tell that it is raining.
Wishing you all dry workdays, Kenna in Tampa, FL
I only became a fan of Supernatural recently, around two moths ago. I’ve been in awe of every single aspect of it ever since.
Of course there are brilliant actors and writers that Supernatural wouldn’t exist without; we, the fans, make sure to tell them how much we appreciate their work any opportunity we get. But we don’t get many opportunities to thank the people who hold everything together – the crew.
With every new episode, I’ve got chills at the amazing atmosphere, dramatic lightning, brilliant camera work, all the supernatural creatures that sometimes look so real they make me believe they’re not a result of special effects at all. I love the ever-changing motel rooms and explosions and stunts.
Everyone always says the SPN crew is like a family and I’m sure without that, the show wouldn’t be what it is. We can’t thank you enough for the dedication and hard work behind every single scene to make us, the fans, happy.
Thank you for everything you do. We love you!

I love the idea of thanking the crew, because without the wonderful job they do, there would be no Supernatural as we know it.
I was hooked from the very first episode, with the scene where Sam & Dean fight in the dark, the lighting was just so amazing. And to the makeup crew, the sound engineers, the music people, the editing, I thank them all. I also find it great that Jared & Jensen always take time out at all the conventions to thank everyone on the crew, because they know how great they are. I have a special mention for Serge Ladouceur, I love what this guy does, the man is a genius! And yes, I do tend to go on and on about Supernatural to family and friends who do not understand my obsession, but I’m glad I found a forum with people who do.
Thank you Supernatural team for 6 great years and here’s to many more.

By other fans’ standards, I’m new to the show. At first, I hated Supernatural (yeah, I don’t know why, either) and refused to watch it. But then after catching a bit of “All Hell Breaks Loose: Part 2”, I fell in love with the “Epic Love Story of Sam and Dean”, as well as the other characters, whether they be hunters, angels, humans or demons. The past 6 months have been crazy, but amazing to watch. Honestly, I’m counting down the days until I can watch the Winchesters come back for Season 7!
I am utterly fascinated by the crew on “Supernatural.” The special effects team is just great, the costuming and makeup is always spot-on, and the stunts, lightening, cameras, and other things I’m sure I’m forgetting is always, ALWAYS amazing. Supernatural wouldn’t be half the show it is without the work of the crew! We all appreciate you all so much!
Cassy, would you like to state which country your writting from?
Cassy would you please state your country.
Well, to say that the whole SPN family is amazing, is a total understatement, obviously.
First they reel us in with the lovely looking leads. Then they hook us with the superbly magnificent ackting with the drama and the danger. Last piece of the greatness comes with the snarky snarkness (totally a word btw 😀 ) of the dialogue that has become the cherry on top of my SPN sundae. That’s all in the surface, but once you really get in to this greatness that is Supernatural, you find so much more.
Funny thing is, our show is so good, you don’t always see all the beutiful details. From the lighting to the shadows, the wacky motel rooms, the blood and the CGI, the camera angles, the editing, the wardrobe (and the reusing of wardrobe), the music, and all the little clever set pieces and throwbacks to older episodes…
It’s all bound together by the rustic, grimy american roadtrip -feel that I get into when I watch the show. You soak it all up and relive the story with the characters. You are ‘there’ sitting next to Dean cleaning the guns, or in the backseat of the Impala while the boys bicker about the case. Once you’ve started to pay more attention on the whole, you see all the loveliness there is to see, how it all comes together, how everything supports each other. It really amazes me.
And it’s all because of the hard work and crazy hours that the SPN family put into our show. I’m proud to say that, to me this show is the most amazing thing I’ve seen from my tv in a long, long time, and that comes from a long line of tv watching 😀
So a majorly big Thank You to the Supernatural Family. You guys and girls rock, and keep up the good work!!
Love from

Ps. Who do I have to bribe to get some more classic rock back, huh? Just kidding. I ‘can’ live without it, I just don’t want to 🙂
I hope you understand my English is very bad!.
I came to Supernatural for my eldest son. but I’m much, much more fanatical than he.
Like to thank the whole team for their excellent work. SPN without them would not be what it is. Especially the special effects are excellent. For the maintenance care. the baby Impala!. At the hairdressers that make the hair look beautiful Jared. He is already very beautiful but it looks fantastic. Most especially I want to ask the makeup artists working without pay please.! payment is more to make up that body of Jared. Ja Ja! .
It really is excellent all their work around the equipo.Mis congratulations.!

I first met the Supernatural family on Tuesday September 13, 2005 and have come to love them as extended members of my family. I love the awesome way the cast and crew has stuck together over the years and how we all can feel how much they enjoy working on Supernatural as much as I love watching it. Every person from the cast and writers to the people that do the lighting, special fx and music coordinators all add to the magic of the show and without them, Supernatural as we now it would not exist. Thank You for all your hard work and we love you all!!! Sara – California -United States
I joined the SPN fandom September 2010-right after Season 5 was on DVD. I came into it late, but have been entranced ever since. I love all the hard work that has gone into making such a wonderful show. I would like to thank the cast and crew, from the actors to the PA’s and everyone in between. Without every one of you, SPN would not be the wonderful show it is. You have my thanks and love. -Melanie, Washington State
I first came to Supernatural during Season 3, Mystery Spot. Prior to that I never understood why there was all this ‘chatter’ on various spoiler sites about Supernatural. I thought people should just ‘get over it’. Yeah, now I’m one of those people eager for any little tidbit, be it a tweet about casting or a picture from the set.
I would like to thank the crew for being so generous to the people who follow the show around. As someone who enjoys the behind the scenes photos that appear throughout the shooting schedule, either from fans who travel to Vancouver or from those who live in the area and visit the set, it is a treat to see a small bit into what it takes to create this show.
Whenever a fan posts their pictures they almost always include a note saying that someone from the crew spoke with them, was nice to them, politely asked them to move or perhaps even located them in a specific place; yes, I know it is to get them out of the way but each time it is mentioned that the fan was treated politely and with respect.
It may seem obvious to be respectful but with the tight shooting schedule and the long hours and the constant ‘intrusion’ of fans it is not always easy to be polite. I’ve never once read of anyone saying anyone attached to Supernatural was rude, not once.
My thank you to the crew is that you all put up with the ‘intrusions’ on your work site so generously so that those of us unable to simply watch the show when it’s broadcast can glean some small treasures of what it takes to make the show.
Without all of you there would be no show, thank you.
Elle2 I read so many of your articles but just can’t remember where you live.
Yirabah,
I’m sorry I forget to put that in there, Saratoga Springs, New York.

I really like the professional look of the sample page. THank you for doing this.
I heard of Supernatural when it first started airing. I’ve been hooked ever since. I would like to thank the cast, crew, the PAs and everything in between. I don’t think y’all could have chosen better people to play Sam and Dean. You can tell that they truly get along like family on and off set. Thank you SO much for sticking together so long. I hope the show stays on for a while longer. It’s simply amazing. So, once again, thank you SO SO much for making such a great TV show. I will be with yall till the very end. (hopefully that’s no time soon ;)) -Jessie-Alabama-United States.
Hi Yirabah, this is a wonderful idea.
When I heard about Supernatural I had wanted to watch it, but unfortunately due to my work schedule and a unreliable VCR player I missed quite a few episodes.
The first one I was finally able to watch was ‘Nightmare’
The only thing I new of the show, that it was about two brothers on the road investigating Urban Legends.
What I was seeing on my TV was the farthest thing from what I had expected.
I believe I sat through the entire episode not only on the edge of my seat but with my jaw to the floor. I was in total awe with the acting, the writing, everything.
I immediately fell in love with the brothers. I was intrigued by the storyline of how their mother died and about one brother having visions and special abilities.
I was spellbound by the special affects with the knife zooming up to the stepmother’s eye, the handgun floating in midair, cocking and firing on its own.
I couldn’t believe how scary and suspenseful it was.
I loved the music and the set design of the motel room.
I thought if this is just one episode, what have I been missing.
After that I tried to watch as many episodes that I could but it wasn’t until the hiatus between season 2 and 3, that I was able to upgraded to a DVD player and purchase seasons 1 &2. I was in my glory catching up on all the missed episodes. Also that same summer I upgraded our cable box so now I was able to record the shows without needing a VCR. I haven’t missed an episode since.
So indeed I would like to send out a heart felt thank-you to all those involved with this amazing show.
The writers, the Cast, the directors, to all the departments that handle the editing, the special affects/cgi, the lighting, the sound, the makeup, the costume/wardrobe, the camera operators, the set designers and the onsite location crew for putting up with the weather be it rain or snow and for the long hours put in to make each week possible.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Karen from Ontario, Canada
Yirabah,
Great idea!
Since I’m new to Supernatural, I’d like to thank the crew for creating the atmosphere that drew me into the show in the first place. I remember my first episode, “All Hell Breaks Loose,” and how the entire experience, from the lighting to the direction to the sound to the photography, melded into a story that both broke my heart but also captured my senses. It was a complete experience, as has every episode after that first viewing has been. That completeness is credit to those who work tirelessly behind the scenes, those who dedicate their creative energies to displaying an art that holds their names as one signature among many.
For me, every episode demonstrates the love, care, and respect that each member of the Supernatural family has for the story its telling. That care makes my viewing all the more visceral, which is difficult to achieve in this medium. This show’s collaboration is the most perfect example of television art.
So I’d like to thank you, Supernatural crew, for giving me the reason to love this show as much as I do.

Thank you all for your comments on here. Please spread the word or it would be a very thin book.
Thank you all for your comments on here. Please spread the word or it would be a very thin book.
I posted a bulletin on youtube, so that should reach about 250 people. I hope they’ll respond to you guys. Because this idea is definitely worth every fans attention.
I’ve been a Supernatural fan for two years now. My first episode was “Bloody Mary” and I found it really scary! Somehow the effects, the lighting, the direction, all contributed to the atmosphere. Then I was struck by the opening of the Hell’s Gate in AHBL2, and I find the lighting, the editing, the photography and the scenery of “On the head of a pin” a real artwork. So I think that Supernatural is a span above so many tv shows not only for the story or the superb acting by the main characters, but also from a more technical pov.
I absolutely LOVE the care on the wardrobe and the prop for the brothers: I’m particularly fond of Dean’s pearl-butt gun, and won’t mourn ever enough for the loss of Dean’s leather jacket 🙁 I like also the angelic blade.
Besides, I would compliment the cast directors on the choice not only of the main characters, but of the recurrent or occasional ones (like Mark Sheppard, Richard Speight Jr., Chad Lindberg, RObert Benedict, Christopher Heyerdahl…): they are so well cast that we attached to them even when they were on the show just for one or a few episodes. Even some of the monsters or victims of the week were so carved in my memory or subconscious that I recognized them in other shows.
So I would thank the SPN crew with all my heart for putting up, together with actors, writers and directors, the wonderful show that we know and love.
Brynhild can I please have the country you are writing from.
Supernatural became my very favorite TV show with the pilot episode. I was initially attracted by the lead actors (whom I’d seen in other shows) & the Impala (especially since I’m a ’67 model too) but quickly became captivated by the story & the high-quality production of the show.
I’d heard that some of the Supernatural crew had also worked on The X-Files, another of my favorites, so I was not surprised at the excellent production values I saw in each episode. I had the privilege of meeting a few of the crew members during the 2010 Vancouver con, & hope to meet more this year. It was wonderful to learn of how things work behind the scenes, & it gave me a great appreciation for the incredible amount of work that goes into making such an awesome show!
I want to thank everyone involved in Supernatural, from the actors to the locations managers, lighting crew, special effects, makeup artists & wardrobe, car wranglers & props team, camera crew, to the writers, directors & producers! Your hard work makes my life a little brighter!

This is a great idea. I’ve been so out of the loop while on vacation. It’s nice to be home and able to get back into the swing here—and with such a great cause.
I’m a writer, so I appreciate all the behind the scenes work both the writers and crew members have to do to bring us this show. The actors, Jared and Jensen in particular, get a lot of fanservice, as they should, but they’re one portion of the puzzle. Without the brilliant work of the writers and crew members that pull of everything from the script, to the maintenance of the Impala, to the special effects and costuming we see each every week, we wouldn’t have Supernatural as we know it. What fascinates me about this show–and any show—is just how much of a team effort it truly is. No single person is solely responsible for the final product. It is a shared effort, and I think most fans don’t realize that. Each and every prop the boys encounter, each and every hotel room they have the fortune (or misfortune) to stay in, every diner they stop at, that’s the handiwork of a crew member—and each is a genius in their own right. So props to them! I really hope they know just how much we appreciate their fine work in bringing the world of Supernatural to us each and every week.
Far Away Eyes your country is missing
Oh! I’m from Minnesota, USA.
To the Crew,
A couple years ago I walked in on my sister watching TV. on the screen was Pairs Hilton and she was getting her head chopped off by a (very pretty) guy. Frankly that peaked my interest enough and I sat down to watch the rest of the episode. Not being one who usually likes coming in on the middle of a show I asked my sister what it was. from then on I was hooked.
Supernatural is one of the best and brightest shows I’ve had the pleasure of watching. And really, as much as I enjoy watching the actors who give us the story every week, it the people behind the camera that are the heart and soul of the show. I can’t imagine what Supernatural would be like without each and everyone of you. from the lighting to the SFX to the people who make sure that the smallest detail in a room can have significant meaning. I’ve not had the pleasure to meet anyone of you yet but some day, if I do, I’ll make sure to thank you for all your hard work and for changing my life because you really have. you’ve given me something to enjoy and somehow get to know my little sister more with our equal appreciation of the show. As well as given me the opportunity to meet so many others who feel the same way. so, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are what make Supernatural worth watching week after week. Cheers.

I love this idea!
My younger son got me hooked on Supernatural when he asked me to dvr it while he worked night shift. I walked into the room as little girl Lilith arrived at the police station in Jus in Bello – and I’ve been hooked ever since.
I’ve read through some of the other stories and most people have mentioned everyone I wanted to say thank you to. So at the risk of being repetitive, thank you ALL. I especially want to thank the catering crew. I have no idea just how many people you feed every day but the task of keeping a large number of people fed and happy must be enormous.
🙂

Thanks for this great idea, Yirabah!
I’ve always been interested in how TV shows and movies are made, and I know that a crew can make or break a show just as surely as the lead actors. From the very beginning, Supernatural had a unique look, and I was consistently impressed by the quality of the lighting and cinematography, the set design and execution, the visual effects, the stunt work, the sound recording, the makeup – all the details were painstakingly done, and the overall effect was striking. This was film quality work on the much shorter schedule and much tighter budget of a TV show, and I was impressed. Supernatural is the first show that ever prompted me to blog, and I had to include notes on all aspects of the production in my comments and episode reviews.
I thank the whole crew for their attention to detail, for their obvious love for and pride in the show. I was astonished to realize how many of the same people came back season after season; in an industry notable for its impermanence and gypsy existence, I was delighted to see that the cast and crew of my favorite show truly were a family and shared my passion for what they were doing. I got the chance a few times to see setup and shooting on location, and was fascinated by everything I saw.
I’ve sent a few postcards to the studio, but I wish I had more chances to convey how proud and happy everyone working on Supernatural makes me feel!

Thanks so much to all the behind the scenes folks whose work is so important to the excellent that is Supernatural!
I resisted tuning in at first – didn’t think I wanted to watch “scary”. To quiet a co-worker who kept telling me I would love it, I watched the Season 2 premiere. And was IMMEDIATELY hooked!! I didn’t quite know everything that was going on, but I was completely drawn in by the amazing feel, look, story and of course the performances. This was MUCH more than just scary! I wasted no time ordering Season 1 and catching up.
All through Season 2 we were so worried about renewal. And here we are, on the eve of Season 7. A huge reason for that is the dedication and incredible skill of those who make up the crew of the Supernatural family. I thank you for the continued excellence of this special show.

😆 Great idea!
I have been a fan of the show right from the beginning. My first episode was 2 because I accidentally missed the pilot. (I kicked myself over that one but did get to see it when it re-aired.)
Right from the start, Supernatural had me hooked! It is so important to remember that it is not just about the stars (who are phenomenal) but the tremendous efforts of the crew as well.
I was lucky enough to have spoken with some of these people at Cons and at an impromptu viewing of a shoot. They work incredibly long hours (and varying hours) to make the final product look exceptional. It would seem that they are also devoted and down-to-earth, like Jared and Jensen, which is why they seem to work like a family. I don’t think many shows can say that.
So, from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank EACH and EVERY ONE of you who have made this my favorite show on TV!!!

Yeah, finally we are getting the stuff together for a book – a very thin book – but at least we are getting one together.
Thank you all for your comments.
Great idea, and thanks for thinking of this and then doing it.
I often read about what a small budget Supernatural has. Well, you guys/gals put on a super show with what you have. I have tried to see the difference between Supernatural and other shows, and what I notice is Supernatural is better in all ways. I suppose the superior acting helps, but it is so much more than that. The care that everyone takes to bring us a great story is evident. I think it speaks volumes that the crew has stayed mostly the same since the beginning. It is obvious that all involved love and take pride in this show, and also obvious how much everyone cares about each other.
There are so many different departments to thank. I admire the work you do and wish I knew more about all areas, but I suppose that would take away some of the magic. Every week I cringe when someone gets cut, especially if they cut themselves (you know, as proof of something). I know it isn’t real, but even something that simple (in comparison to other stuff) looks so real and shows the skill and care taken. When I read that JDM wasn’t really in the scene AHBL2 at the graveyard, I go back and look at it and it is so well done, you can’t tell. I know there are very few standing sets, so every week the crew is building or remodeling something. It always looks just like it should – been there forever, gas station in LR, or diner in AHBL. The hotel rooms must be a lot of fun to do because they are always fun for us. Special Effects are awesome, stunts are awesome, hair and makeup- awesome, casting of guest actors, especially awesome, composers-so talented. Well, I could go on and on because Supernatural is such an awesome show. I wish we could meet some of the crew. Maybe on a gag reel, at the end when the crew is shown, put some names and jobs. That would be cool. Thanks again for working so hard and making this great show.Jill,Reno NV
Awesome idea!! And thanks to the supernatural crew, from all the different department. I know alot of people work hard on creating the series and it really pays off cause alot of people are in love with it (me 😆 ) the I’ve recently learned (from twitter/ facebook) that supernatural has huge fan support. And I just wanted to say thanks to those who put supernatural together for makeing an amazing series and for keeping all us fans hooked!! We don’t just love the actors, we love everyone who helped make supernatural happen!
I’ve been hooked since the very first episode. When I saw that Jensen was going to be in it, who I’ve loved since his Dark Angel days, I knew I would have to catch it when came on. Jeffery Dean Morgan, being in the pilot, was just icing on the cake.
As with most new shows that I like, I figured this one would be a goner pretty quickly so I started to tape them after the 2nd episode thinking they would never be repeated. I remember cursing myself for not getting the first 2. When they came out on DVD I snatched them up right away.
As with anything I watch, I tend to keep an eye out on the acting, writing and directing, first and then special effects, makeup, locations etc afterwards.
I imagine it has to be hard to visualize and dress & light a set differently each episode but the SN crew does it with style every single time. I get such a giggle when I see them re-use a prop or two but that’s half the fun for me. The Matador and Rock by the Sea paintings, the clock that’s appeared countless times. Some of the room separators have made several appearances in various episodes as well, but my favorite of all time is the long hallway. You all know which one I’m talking about. They paint it different, light it different but it’s the same hallway most every time if I’m not mistaken.
I’m a firm believer of the old adage “Necessity is the mother of invention”. I think we may have actually gotten a better show because they didn’t have the budget to do things a certain way and had to come up with different ways to achieve the same look and feel. That takes amazing talent and the Supernatural Crew has that in abundance.
Thanks for 6 fantastic seasons and here’s to many more.

Okay, only 19 days late, I’m getting better… Sorry Yirabah for the huge delay (and awesome idea!)
So, the Winchesters…. I guess if behind every great man there is a great woman, then behind these two great men there must be a whole team of great women, and men!
I came to Supernatural exceptionally late. The last few episodes of season 5 were airing before I realised the show even existed (damn Irish TV providers!). The last few minutes of a rerun of The Benders caught on Sky and a quick shopping trip to Amazon bought Supernatural into my life and I’m hugely thankful for it.
I absorbed every episode I could and one mammoth viewing session later, I was bang up to date. I had initially avoided watching the ‘Behind the Scenes’ clips etc on the DVD’s because I (rather stupidly!) felt it would spoil the magic of what I was seeing on screen. There’s little enough magic in the world as it is. Also, due to the fact I’m a latecomer and I took in five seasons in one sitting, it was a case of one huge ‘Oh, I like this show!’ On that watch I didn’t have the time to fully process the episodes or to sit and examine ‘why’ I liked them, I just took in the story. The ensuing break afforded me the time to look at individual episodes and think about why I liked them, why they struck me etc.
I don’t watch a huge amount of TV, I’m more of a book person, but I do realise the advantages that books have over TV in many regards. Books, as a medium, can take three or four pages of text to convey what one tiny clip on TV needs to convey. Words can plant images and ideas into our heads but cameras have to bring those exact words to life in a way that fulfils both the writers and the director’s vision, and satisfies the audience.
Being more of a reader, I’m quite illiterate as to what ‘behind the scenes’ actually entails. However, articles on TWFB have made me really appreciate things like lighting, sound, sets, make-up, special effects and a whole host of other departments that play a huge part in making the show what it is. They’ve helped me to see how something as simple as a shadow, lyrics from a song or a specific camera angle can change the entire tone and direction of an episode. In relation to the amazing special effects; taking something that only exists as a surreal concept in the minds of the writer and then breathing life into it so that millions of viewers can appreciate it…. that’s talent.
As a teacher (for my sins!) it’s the stories I really appreciate. I can’t imagine how difficult it is to write for such a varied and demanding audience and keep them enthralled for six years on the trot but it’s a job you guys have done with aplomb; creating hugely rounded and intriguing characters and storylines that we could never tire of. Each episode is a treasure trove of information and the attention that you guys pay to even the minutest of details and the most innocuous of words, is amazing.
It’s quite humbling to realise that behind the 43 minutes of magic we see onscreen are hundreds of man hours and we truly appreciate each and every one of them. Go raibh mile maith agaibh go leir.

This definitely ISN’T for Yirabah’s book but I don’t know where else to put it (Sorry Yirabah!). I got to thinking while typing up the reply; how necessary are some of the departments in Supernatural? I mean hair, make-up and costuming, what’s that about? JA and JP are good looking guys, they don’t need make-up and hair is y’know, hair. It just sits there! Plus, unless you’re a supermodel, clothes are just clothes. Once they keep you under wraps, it’s all good (or bad, depending on your point of view).
I was thinking that if they spent less on these areas they could spend more on the special effects department because sorry show, some of your monsters are kinda lacking in the scary.
Oooooh, I just soiled myself with the fear of that scary monster (rolls eyes). Personally, I find this much scarier….
What? That’s a Sharpie monster. Sharpies are way scary because they’re permanent, ok. PERMANENT! Not even dry cleaning will get the stains out.
And finally, meet the original fairy in ‘Clap Your Hands If You Believe’:

Unfortunately, I believe they ran into difficulties getting JP to wear wings and a flying harness and apparently, he had issues showing his nipples (strange that). Plus, they couldn’t get him to squeeze into a microwave so hello tiny dot of light (on whom the nipples could clearly be seen)…..
Also, spending less on hair, make up and costuming would mean there might be enough money in the budget for some of this…

….but that’s a story for another day. (Hey, you could totally make a story out of that. Ok, fine, I could totally make a story out of that!)
However, on closer inspection I found some evidence that hair, makeup and costuming are probably the most important departments on the show because honestly, those two fecking edjits should never be allowed to go at it on their own. I mean, could you imagine Lucifer striking fear into the hearts of billions if he showed up looking like this?

Only way you’d fall prostrate before that guy would be if you keeled over laughing. Also, the first thing Michael would be doing would be getting Dean to a barber pronto, because how could you take an archangel seriously if he looked like this?

And stop bragging, you arse, nobody likes a show off.
Secondly, JP; yes dude, you do have lovely eyes and yes, eyeliner is generally used to accentuate same but what the hell is this? Make up doth not the Emo, okay.

You’re emo because everyone you love dies, because Lucifer got on up in ya, because you shagged a demon while betraying your brother and because you’re in hell, not because you put on enough slap to make Elvira jealous. Seriously, you’ve been on TV since you were knee high to a gigantic grasshopper but you still haven’t learnt that less is more?
It’s also not a simple case of letting the boys just wearing whatever is clean either because if JA were to pick his own wardrobe, there’s a danger he’d come up with this….

Personally, I think it’d be kinda hard fighting the forces of evil wearing nowt but the American flag, but if JA is willing to try it then I’m willing to watch it. (And kudos to you on your show of patriotism.)
Little less complicated with JP because if he got to pick his own wardrobe, this is probably what he’d come up with.

Also that parrot/turkey/chicken/ pheasant/guinea fowl/whatever the fuck it is, is the reason the boys aren’t allowed to do their own props. Plus, I’m sure it’s the reason they don’t get a say in who plays their love interests either.
So my appreciation for those working in hair, make up and costuming has increased ten thousand fold because their vision and hard work gives us this:

Shit, sorry, I meant this! (Cop yourself on, Tim)

So, to everyone involved in hair, make-up and costuming, good cess to ya cos you guys have a loooootttt of work to do!
Too Funny.
Loved it. The make up and costume team DOES have a hard job, eh?
And the Sharpie Monster should be feared. That’s why pocket protectors are very important.
Too funny! I was just checking up on this post to see what everyone had to say, and I get to this. Thanks for the hilarious and sexy pics.
Thanks everybody for your comments.
Tim you left me standing alone in the box and I finally found time to read your comment on here. Hilarious. I sure will try to get that in the book.
Hi Yirabah, here’s another one lagging behind. Love your project, so I’m gonna add my two cents.
I don’t watch TV very much and I don’t follow Tv shows avidly. The one and only show I used to watch quite regularly was The X-Files. The one and only show I watch right now regularly is Supernatural. What made me stay and watch is in the first place the story. So, big thanks to the writers! Then there’s the music. Love it, love it! And it fits so well into the show! Then there’s everything else, the scenography, the production, the obvious perfect team work of the crew and cast. Everything fits perfectly.
Sunny greetings to rainy Vancouver from Croatia!
Lara
Hi, Yirabah.
This is a great idea!
Still another lagger. :-* My excuse is that there are so many awesome, hardworking, skillful and dedicated people making this the best show on television, I am afraid I will leave someone out. 😥 So thanks to everyone working on the show; you know who you are. 😆
Awesome entry, Tim, from another teacher(possibly for my sins).
Hi Yaribah This is such an excellent idea – just wanted to add my bit in too 🙂 (I hope it isn’t too late)
To The Crew.
I can’t pretend to know anything about making television but I will say this – no other TV show or movie has quite the same feeling as Supernatural. It has such a magic quality that you can’t help but be enraptured. All of this comes from the crew, the actors, the writers. We see the actors, we hear the writers words, but the crew permeates the entire show in a way I can’t honestly say I’ve seen in any other show or movie. You can feel the love, dedication and hard work put into every scene by the props, sets, special effects, lighting and whoever else works there. So basically what I want to say is – Thanks. For making a good show an amazing show. I’ve watched since the pilot and I’ll watch till the end because of all of you.

I would be hard pressed to pick any particular SPN crew job I find more praiseworthy than others! I’ve been fortunate enough to find them filming on two separate occasions& the crew as a whole was polite, interested that we were interested in hearing about their jobs. Got to watch the hair, makeup and wardrobe depts work, and believe me they were working all the time (on a simple outdoors 35second scene on camera, you wouldn’t believe how many times hair had to be sprayed, makeup retouched, clothing adjusted just to make each shot and take match up! Plus Jeannie Chow is the only one who’s cut Jared’s hair besides himself or wife or brother since the show began, according to Jared at NJ con& the slightest breeze can undo his hair& Jeannie goes to the rescue (and she’s a lovely and gracious lady besides!) I know I spent time talking to one lady from wardrobe and it’s killing me I can’t remember her name, but she has gorgeous tats& amazing blonde/black hair (someone will remind me& I’ll kick myself.
We’d be lost without the sound guys, bringing us Sam and Dean’s voices clear and that’s tough to do because they don’t have tons of time to do ADR on every scene! Not too bad to watch them get mic’d before shooting either. The grips were awesome people! Fun to talk with, very matter of fact about their jobs, knew when to have fun& when to be deadly serious…if a scene involves high up lighting, they take some serious chances making sure all that rigging is safe just so our guys can look good fighting evil in the dark! Catering cannot be done without! Craft Services feed the guys, the crew, & SPNs was good…ahem. I mean someone was very nice and got me a drink on a hot day when I came close to passing out…yeah they’re really good people! The locations managers (Russ Hamilton included of course) were really friendly. Showed us the places they have to get to cooperate with SPN filming. Amazingly not everyone in BC is a Supernatural fan, so they do so much work in finding places to film& getting everyone to agree to slightly alter their day while filming happens (or keeping the residents happy) It was amazing to see how one location had never been used before and the owner was happy about it, but just up the street a doorway had been key in another episode and the same street itself had been dressed as a different location by filming from the opposite angle! They do a lot with what they have. I don’t think I met anyone in the art department but it was kind of trippy seeing one location with a fully realistic Coroner’s Office Granite looking sign outside, but up the steps, people were coming out and using an alternate route so as not to interfere with filming, next to a small sign showing it was actually a law office 🙂 There are so many SPN departments I saw at work but didn’t get to speak with, but they all worked with a very fluid precision; everyone knew exactly what they should be doing& when. Loved watching them set everything up, rehearsals, filming& takedown. Clearly we must thank the PAs who have the thankless job of keeping crowds away from interfering with the job taking place of bringing Supernatural to us! Some are clearly acting as security as well, and have been some of the nicest guys and gals I’ve ever met! And without the drivers(also some of the toughest and sweetest guys I’ve ever met) no one would get anywhere! All the trucks carrying all the equipment needed to shoot Show, a lot of grunt work you gotta appreciate these guys! Speaking of drivers, gotta thank Clif Kosterman, plucked out of driving, to be the Js personal bodyguard and driver& who’s never been anything but gracious with fans on set! And this year, with so many people trying to crash the set, I have to thank him for doing his job. As tight a set as he has to run to keep the show filming on track and the cast&crew safe, I cannot see him being maligned for doing that so important job as well as he does. I know Guy Bee and the ADs are terrific (would love to have talked to people like that, but that would be taking them away from their job! So a big thank you to EVERY person in Every crew department of Supernatural, without whom, we would not have this show that means so much to us all! Been watching since day one ep one, hooked from first promos on, but had no idea how important this little brothers hunting monsters show would come to mean to keep me close to my family and get me through some of the worst things ever! Hey, if Sam and Dean can do it…anything is possible! Thank you!!!

I met the world of Supernatural when I first saw the season one preview promos on TV featuring music by my fav rock band AC/DC! I was a Jensen fan for many years but I was drawn to the show by its characters, depth in story line, creativity & and passion! The stars of the show excel at what they do but it’s everyone behind the scenes that makes it all come together so magnificently.
The Supernatural Family reaches from the cast & crew, the writers, creators, directors & executives to the vast range of fans from 9 to 90.
There is something about this amazingly unique show that really unites us all in a phenominal way.
THANK YOU EVERYONE for making Supernatural the most amazing show ever to grace television!

I came across Supernatural one night when there was nothing on TV and I was so bored. I saw it advertised before, but never really took them in. The episode was Hammer Of The Gods and I was immediately hooked from one episode. But, with this program that’s all it takes. Also it took one episode for me to fall for that Dean Winchester charm. LOL
So after that I watched it week after week though I was a little out of the loop b/c I never saw any of the previous seasons before. And I watched to the end of Season 5 and yes,I even cried at the end of Swan Song. That’s when I decided I couldn’t wait for the next season and decided to watch it from the very start.
Soon after I decided to watch season 1, I got one of my best friends into it and that started a chain of friends taking an interest in the show.
Now 2 years and 6 seasons later, I am still a massive fan. I now have a subscription to the Supernatural Magazine and buying Supernatural merchandise. I just joined Twitter and started going to cons and it’s just amazing to see the different people interested in this show and to get to talk to them about it. The fans are just great and it’s good to talk to them when there aren’t a lot of people around you that are interested in the show, no matter how hard you try. Well they are some people but not as obsessed with Supernatural as me.
So I just want to say Thank You to the actors, directors, producers, writers that made this show but especially to the Crew. Even though you aren’t exactly in the episodes doesn’t mean you didn’t help making Supernatural what it is today. From watching youtube videos, hearing stories from the actors and watching behind the scenes stuff it looks like you guys love what you do and have fun doing it. Supernatural still amazes me to this day on the special effects or what the writers come up with and how the actors can make an impact on you to make you laugh or cry.
You couldn’t ask for a better cast and crew for an amazing show.
So just want to say Thank you again. Without Supernatural I wouldn’t have the amazing memories from cons or have met the awesome fans or have a TV program that I absolutely love!!
So…. THANK YOU!!! 😀
I’m no expert on production, but I am in awe of this crew because they do so much to tell the story. Every shot is full of detail, from the antiqued books to the grit on the floor to the lived-in clothing to the genuinely scary creatures. It is all so rich, so tangible, and makes the world so real. Genius!
Well, I’d like to thank the Supernatural crew for get me out of boredom and show me this amazing world of supernatural things and the Winchester family. I can’t even say how much I love everything in the show, i’ts perfect, the monsters, ghosts, the things we only things have only on a imaginary world and folklore. It takes me to another world, so I can sometimes forget this boring world and live an adventure with Sam, Dean and everyone else! Thank you to show the love of a family too, the brothers love, it’s so beatiful, thank you for all the tears that you took from me, every laugh, every scary moment, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I have been watching Supernatural since the beginning. Most of my friends think I am crazy when I talk about the show, however,I have turned a few into lovers of this wonderful family. Obviously the J’s are awesome, but if it weren’t for the wonderfully creative writers we have, there would be no show. I love watching behind the scenes on dvds, the creativity of these people amazes me. As someone that works nights,Iknow how hard it can be to focus and do your best work when you are tired. This crew works all kinds of crazy hours, long before and long after the actors get to go home. So thank you ladies and gentlemen for all the work that you do to bring this great show to us. I will be thinking of you with each episode that I sit down to enjoy with my extended “family”.

Supernatural would not exist if not for the competence of this fantastic team, no matter the person and not its function, I would like to thank everyone who made ??this series in my personal obsession, I am very, very fan of Super. Thank you for having even made ??me a fanatic person supernatural, the characters, the Impala, the lesson of life that are always present in the episodes. Just have to say one thing: I love you.

Tassio Luan would you please state the country you are from. Thank you.
God, life before supernatural…i don’t think i can recall it…i live in rural australia, so it wasn’t shown on our tv networks, but watched the first few episodes at a friends place on dvd around the time season 2 was screening….that was it….I was hooked for life…it has become a ‘way of life’ as opposed to an obsession….and without you guys behind the scenes, we know it wouldn’t be what it is….special note to the set folks..love the recurring items and wacky hotel rooms…and also to the sound crew…i am sooooooo happy their is finally an avenue of appreciation for my music style!!…Of course we love the actors and the writing….but it takes you guys to bring it all together….u have genuinely saved my life in the past as i didn’t want to miss any supernatural!!
THANK YOU AND WE LOVE YOU ALL!!
P.S…..I tried Jensens ‘Eye of the Tiger’ routine on my beastly old ute…cracked the windscreen and dented the roof!!…u just don’t appreciate how much work u guys do so things like that don’t show!!! 😛

Though Supernatural started in 2005 I started watching it 6 years after it started. As I was on twitter one day, multiple tweets about a show called Supernatural or these two guys named Sam and Dean appeared on my timeline and I for one got curious since I was scavenging for more shows to watch.
I started watching Supernatural on February 2011 a few days after I saw those tweets and did a research on what the show is about. I watched the first six episodes of season 1 on the internet and then bought season’s 1-5 on DVD. I immediately became hooked to the show and from that day on there wasn’t a day that I didn’t bring up Supernatural in a conversation. I was so in to the show that I finished the five seasons by March and was able to catch up on the sixth season online.
What makes Supernatural awesome is not only the story but most importantly the actors who give life to the characters of the show. Supernatural gives us action, drama and comedy all in one episode which is why it’s got to be one of my favorite shows ever. Plus, my Friday nights will be boring without it.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for everyone who made this show possible and to those who up to this very day continue to make Supernatural one awesome and fantastic show. Most especially, THANK YOU Jensen and Jared for bringing the Winchester brothers to life.
Through every ups and downs of the two brothers I’ll continue to be there to give my love and support. (:

Leslie, Gen, Donna, Kathleen thank you very much for your comments.
Unfortunatly, the book is already printed. I received it today. But hopefully we are able to pass the link to this page to some one in the crew so that they will be able to read your comments to.
So to everyone else, keep posting, the crew might still get to read it.
i would like to thank the crew for giving me those few mins away from reality when i need them, i had first seen supernatural in 2006 after my best friend had taken her life, i was numb, i didnt know what to do i wanted to be alone and so i flicked on my tv and if by fate Supernatural was on and it became my healing process every time something bad happened Supernatural was there for me like a family, guess thats why were all so close lol, and to this day its helped me out off some tight spots, my dad was recently dignosed with yet another form of cancer, and the Supernaturla family was perfectly timed was coming back from seeing him in hospital flicked on tv and there it was and of cause Jared’s Alway Kepp Fighting campain came out too and it kept me going, it kept my dad going, so from the bottem of my Heart and soul Thank You for Supernatural!
