Jared Padalecki Stage Talk

Moderator Doug Inman took the stage shortly before the Stage Talk by Jared Padalecki and informed the audience about the fact that a fan had approached in an unseemly manner one of the guests of honor and now the Convention had been referred. The fact that it was Jared had gotten around already and the audience agreed with each other (softly) to give a standing ovation to welcome Jared and to show him some respect. When Jared finally appeared he seemed in good spirits, relaxed and had nothing pointed out about what had happened to him recently. The cheers of the fans was huge and did not die down because Jared decided just then to take his scarf and jacket off. Being down to the T-shirt simply never misses its effect. Understandably! Jared was amazed at the huge oratorio held in the Stage Talk and was once kissed by the Muse, to quote with a stage voice a few words of Shakespeare “To be or not to be? That is the question!” Then he thanked us all for coming and devoted himself with plenty of enthusiasm to the questions.
From Jensen he had already learned that you have a bad sound on stage and so he immediately moved to the side of the stage to listen to the question from the closer range. Unlike Jensen, who had then gone back again and again to the center of the stage, Jared remained mostly with on the side of the microphone, where the questioner was just sitting and then changed the page to the next question.
The result was a funny sight, because every time this giant of a man sat down on the floor in order to address the question, it looked as if he was making a turn exercise. And it was quite a relatively long way across the stage to the other side, so Jared used each time to bring in a little fun. Using his great humor he came up with every time a particularly graceful or less graceful step until at some point he looked like he was doing the chicken dance.
Topic of the first question, “Star Trek.” Jared said that he saw it as a child, the original series with William Shatner. With a wide grin he said that it had extraordinarily bad acting, and mischievously added that he hoped we did not all happen to watch a series called “Supernatural” because the acting is very similar bad to “Star Trek”. Then he immediately went on to enact a moment from a certain scene and was shocked as he saw himself in the canvas transfer and exclaimed: “That is a huge me. Jeeeesh It’s like a foot 30 tall Jared!”
The next question was from Yirabah (we met at the Con and had a great time together) about Jared’s voice recording of “Supernatural” anime, which he monolingual parallel to season six. How it was for him, to speak Sam from season one and two. Jared replied that this was clearly very difficult since at the time as Sam Winchester in season six after the director yelled “Cut” he suddenly had to put himself back in Sam from season one and two. He recalled how different Sam was in season one and two, and said it had cost him much time to be able to feel into the character and asked those who know the anime, “Please forgive me for the first couple of episodes.”
Because the Con took place in Mannheim and on that day was a marathon, a fan asked if Jared would like to do one. Jared said he had at the time of season one actually trained for it but then got problems with his knee. To demonstrate what is wrong with his knee, he sat on the floor and stretched his legs straight out and made hand movement like a puppet. What happened then was truly a sight because Jared pressed his knee and lower leg with foot by the invisible puppet string and followed up. A demonstration like this was such a fun for him and the whole audience went wild with laughter. Then he got up and showed how he had come up when training wrong and pushed through to the inside knee, and stated that he had to stop completely for a while. He also said he was (a girl called out, “massive”) figuratively not the typical marathon runner. “I’m not built for running. Most of me is up here (pointing to his upper body), most of marathon runners are down there (pointing to leg). ” He then asked the questioner whether she was marathon runner. She said no and he said “Yeah, high five!” and clapped her hand.
By the next question, we learned what was planned for season four, that Sam descends to Hell to rescue Dean. Jared believes that even if they had made it so, there would have still been room for Castiel and Ruby since it was up to apocalypse. At least he hoped there would have been room for Castiel and Ruby. At the mention of Ruby’s presence in the season, he smiled knowingly, he would have otherwise not known his wife Genevieve better.
To the next question Jared was asked if there were certain scenes where he had been wondering how he should ever play that and in text which were clear that it would be very hard to learn. But in contrast to a film script, one does not appeal directly, one could reject. In television you can’t reject the script for one episode. For example, it was particularly difficult for him to play in season five Lucifer, as he normally never plays the evil person. Lucifer was indeed a funny kind of tyrant, because he sided with his “victims” but Jared felt unsure about this challenge In the end he was glad that something good came out.
Next, a bit of genealogical research has been conducted, because Jared said that “My mother, her father came from Germany, more precisely from Dusseldorf.” The questioner wondered, though if he was speaking about his Grandpa. Jared pulled a very funny grimace and defended himself, he had, after all, an another Grandpa, and he was a Pole. On behalf of her father so he was of Polish descent. When asked for a sample of his knowledge of German took Jared a “Danke Schön! ” out, and it is amazing how much someone can entertain an audience when he or she tries to speak one or two bumpy words in their language. For the applause, Jared earned, could not have been greater if he would have done a handstand.
The next question was aimed at Jared’s hair, more specifically, whether Sam’s hair is insured. Jared said this was not the case. But if someone would shave his head, the wig, which he would carry then, costs about $ 5,000. He asked if anyone in the hall was a wig maker and defended himself because of laughter: “That’s not that strange of a question” He then explained that at the moment, as Jensen and he were cast and the roles were given immediately wigs for them were ordered, to be prepared for any eventuality. These wigs have in head shape, hairline, and color match every little detail with the real hair, so it takes many hours to make up such a wig.
If he could change Sam´s action which one would it be? Jared thought for a moment and then had his answer ready. He wished Sam could have stopped Dean from killing Ruby, so Sam would have Ruby the demon exorcized and now could have a girlfriend. The applause following his statement on this was almost surprising, as Ruby in season four was not very popular (I liked her). But it was cute as lively Jared wants his wife to be with him on the set, that this alone was worth applause.
Jared’s house and the house owned by the actor Jared Padalecki in #6.15 The French Mistake have little in common according to Jared. He had to laugh about this very issue. A few pictures of the dogs and of the wedding were the only thing the two places had in common. Jared, however, was so impressed by the huge colorful print that he asked the producers at the end of the episode to be allowed to keep these prints. However, he had them lying around at home now and did not know what to do with it, because he could not hang those pictures. He wanted to put them up just for fun on the staircase wall when his parents come to visit and then pretend it was the normal thing in the world, such colored giant prints hanging of himself and his wife on the wall have. Not really surprising, yet still heart-warming to this description was basically that Jared is really down to earth, that he seems like an unimaginable to be so vain to hang these images actually in the home. When the questioner suggested to auction the paintings for a good cause, he was really fond of the idea and asked for an organization to which he could provide the money. He even asked her to give her name, so they could possibly arrange something to that.
The next question brought Jared to a very interesting and detailed response, which was all about what it’s like to play opposite himself as the object in a scene. Jared said that it was difficult above all that he had nothing to which he could build on. When Sam and Dean have a common scene, it depends very much on his own account of what happens between Jensen and him. Jared played through several versions of a simple conversation between Sam and Dean that differed solely in facial expressions and intonation. Acting is a constant action and reaction and the master of the other person in the scene. So to put words in a vicious circle he must represent both sides. Jared decided in the scenes where he gave himself as a counterpart, for the normal Sam to play first, because he knows this best.
A young girl wanted to know if Jared was sometimes sick of playing the younger brother. Jared said he was glad. Sometimes they have quite a change come along, such as Jake Abel and his appearance on “Supernatural”. Also helping people, hunting things which Sam and Dean do, he could sometimes assume the role of older brother. As the little girl dared not even to ask the question, but stood next to the person who asked the question for her, it was very endearing of Jared, as he thanked extra the little girl for the question.
The next person asked how Jared considers Castiel development. Jared replied Misha was such a great actor and that the show makers have enjoyed changing and constantly developing Castiel, and give Misha just more options in his account. At this point, the screaming baby a fan brought in the audience who had complained the whole time already was especially loud and Jared responded promptly, “Soon I’ll stop talking about Misha.” Then he returned to his statement that on “Supernatural” the topic is always, “Is the road to hell paved with good intentions?” Motivations and intentions are a subject to change. Dean and Sam would in turn have often exceeded the limits and now is Castiel driven to exceed the limits.
For the answer to the next question, we learned that the mood on the set of “Supernatural” is kept deliberately very relaxed, since the actors have generally very much to deal with horrible experiences of their characters. But there are moments in which the set is cleared this is true especially in emotional scenes, to reflect the mood. An example was the scene when Sam is stabbed by Jake in #2.21 and dies in Dean’s arms.
In the context of with the next question it seemed that Jared is a accustomed, to be called a good actor. After the girl had asked if it was in #6.15 “The French Mistake” difficult to present as good a bad actor, Jared cried out as the first “Oh thank you for saying I’m a good actor!” and when he repeated the question for the audience, he said again “a good actor – meaning me” and was beaming like a Cheshire cat. Then he explained what kind of challenge it is to show bad acting, because it is not funny, except when he exaggerates. But as we all lay on the floor laughing, Jared was held up a few times and said that apparently he was totally located next to it, because the possible variants which he thought were listless were funny. Then he showed his idea of a badly whining voice acted and the audience did not comply with enthusiasm. However Jared said, he was just so nervous in the said scene, that he could use the nervousness to his advantage, because, as Eric probably made it clear: “It was Jensen and Jared playing Sam and Dean playing Jensen and Jared playing Sam and Dean! It was four levels! “And what is to be called complex if not this?
The next question animated Jared to stage a fight for his opponents. He chose the bistro table with the water jug. He demonstrated in slow motion, like a blow must look from the side and how it is done when the camera is in front. You must receive the blow to the enemy and basically making a small arc around him, in the other case, the impact will still be too far off. To make this particularly clear, Jared put on a fight with the water jug and reconciled at the end with him again, as he gave it a little kiss. How unspeakably cute was that? It must be mentioned at this point, how smooth the movements executed by Jared were in this fight, in slow motion, nothing seemed silly or wooden.
In Stage Talk with Jared and Jensen the next day, Jared said he would like to be generous, and Jensen replied, “You are, buddy!” I think everyone can attest that Jensen is right. Jared has not missed a single opportunity to thank at the questioners in the autographs and photos. His sincere charm live is so overwhelming that one can hardly put into words.
Hi Junkerin
Thank you for sharing this with us. Looks like you had a fantastic time.
I’m always surprised of the variety of questions that get asked.
I love that you and Yirabah were able to meet up with each other and share the experience together.
It was a greate time and a fantastic way to end a season.
Thanks for this report. actually reading it every time are stronger my desire to know one day .!!!! I hope to get lucky. and to do so once
Hi Vero
Try it. It was my first con and I loved it.
Thanks for your report! I’m, glad you had a wonderful time!
My plesure. There will be more 😀
One thing that strikes me whenever I read these reports is how enthusiastic the two boys always seem to be. You’d think, after doing dozens upon dozens of these types of conventions, they’d be somewhat jaded by the whole experience at this stage but apparently not. I think that’s kinda cool; that they’re as passionate about the show and meeting their fans as their fans are at meeting them.
Thanks for the report, Junkerin. At your next Con, will you ask them if they are ever coming to Ireland? Tell them Tim is waiting, that’ll get them running (away)!
It’s things like this that make me excited about my own convention coming up in July. I hope to give everyone a full report—and since I’ll be getting my first ever cellphone (a smart phone at that) to do it, well it’ll be possible to do it on site!
I am pleased to see how enthusiastic both boys are about the fans and the show. They always sound so genuine and sincere.
