Live Report – Salute To Supernatural in Nashville

Update #3 is up!!!

I’m here in the Tennessee Ballroom at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel, waiting patiently for the Jared and Jensen panel to begin at today’s Salute To Supernatural convention.  

I gotta tell you, this is a massive venue.  The ballroom is the largest I’ve seen of any of the cons and this hotel certainly has tons of space and eye candy to keep you occupied in between sessions.  I feel like our show has hit the big time!  It’s certainly going to make the cheesy airport hotels at the other cons disappointing.  

I’ll be live tweeting and updating this page frequently through the Jared and Jensen panel and the other events.  There is also a combined panel with Richard Speight Jr. and Matt Cohen later today, long after the J2 excitement has died down.

There is only one big piece of news to come out of the con so far.  Today, Jared Padalecki made his debut on Twitter!  So no longer do we have to endure those tweets that Jared is not on Twitter.  Jensen still isn’t, but I imagine he’ll follow.  Maybe.  So follow @jarpad and know for sure you have the real thing.  He already joked how jaredpadalecki was taken.  Gotta love those frauds!  Also, his profile picture is Jensen in front of the crowd at the Gold member breakfast here in Nashville.  That alone is worth checking it out!

Jared also seems to be having a lot of fun with moose jokes on his new account.  You know “If you give a moose a twitter…”  That’s what the picture at the top is all about.  Jared tweeted it himself.  He’s a fast learner!  He was also trending at #4 earlier and has already gotten 26,178 followers.  To think I followed him a few hours ago when he was only at 2500!  

As usual, everything is running behind.  It usually does on J2 day.  Come back here later for all the information from the panel.  I’ll have it up in frequent intervals.

Update #1  (Overheard from events this morning)

Jensen report 

 

• He said he was sad that he didn’t get to ride a horse in Frontierland.  He’s hoping one of the angels will send him back so he can ride a horse.
• His new addiction is a reality show called Oddities.
• Advised Jared not to tweet a picture of his package unless he’s running for Congress.
• Free time is spent reading scripts, talking to Danneel, and playing guitar.

 

Jared report

 

• Was reported holding up the photo line to check his twitter messages.  As one eyewitness said “It was like watching a little kid with a new toy.”
• “I’ll probably follow Misha, so I can make fun of him.” 
• Someone told him to “tweet something right now” so he literally tweeted “something right now” 
• Jared’s award was presented during the photo ops.  According to @winchesterbros “He was truly blown away and very appreciative.”

Update #2

It all started with a fan video to Celine Dion’s “Because you love me.”  J and J were already in their seats behind the curtain as it raised.  The beards are longer!  Jared’s hair is really long.  

Jared’s first words?  â€œWe’re everything we are because you love us.”  Jensen joked about how appropriate it was Celine Dion.

Jared plays country music trivia.  “What female artist has more grammys than anyone else?”  Allison Kraus.  
Jared about getting Twitter advice from Misha.  “I ask Misha nothing.  I tell him.”

There’s random comment about testicles that get Jared and Jensen going.  They love picking on the audience.  
A flood of people went up to ask questions.  Jensen started right because she had a Jensen shirt on.  


Fandom question.  Jared doesn’t understand twitter.  While asking what retweets are Jensen pretends to sleep.  Jared ‘that’s why I started twitting.”  Jensen wanted to know if that was the correct term.  Audiences say “tweet.” Jensen’s got it. Tweet is an action, while Jared is a twit. 


Jared asks next question with a “tweet!”  


Supernatural Seriously Awesome.  The person who runs the site told about effort to get copies of Supernatural to international fans.  Over 100 copies sent. Got a scrap book together with messages of thanks from those fans and presented it to them.

Jensen went on thank fans graciously for getting them on the TV Guide and People Choice awards and such.  


Talked about props.  Jensen loves taking the guns apart and putting them back together.  He claims he can do it in his sleep.


Jensen joked that trailer from “The French Mistake” will now be his trailer for season seven.  He had to explain that Daneel wasn’t on the show because there was only 42 minutes and Gen was on the show once for real.  Daneel  has never appeared on the show (we need to fix that!) 


“If I have one more conversation bout hockey I’m going to puke” was an adlib. Jensen –  â€œI’m sorry hockey fans but if you’re in Vancouver, shut up.”  


They were asked about how they stand up for each other.  They do, since day one.  They got jumped in season one and fought side by side.  Jared – “We’re from the South.  Bring it.”  


In the scripts, which ones made them think,  â€œI don’t get it” or “I can’t believe they came up with things.”  Jared started naming all season one episodes.  Jensen – “Changing Channels.”  Also, “Basically anything by Ben Edlund.  What fairies?  The teddy bear blows his brains out?…We’ve gotten over the “what the hell is this stage” a long time ago.”


Jared talked about filming “Houses of the Holy.”  That was the first time they had a conference call over an episode and they discussed in detail the religious aspect.  What they did in season four really excited them.  


Question for Jensen, Does he know who Balki Bartokimous was?  Yes.  “Did the reference sell?”  Jensen didn’t have to look that one up.  “There are a few I have to look up because I go “what?”  Then I look at the cover and see it’s Ben Edlund.”    


What was their favorite part of season six.  Jared – “I enjoyed shooting all the stuff when I was passed out on the bed.”  He noticed when the camera was on Jensen he would roll out of bed and pinch Jensen’s legs.  The camera starts to vibrate because the camera operator is laughing to hard.  Misha and Sebastian got into it too.  Jensen – “Can everyone focus here?  Don’t pay attention to the idiot down there.  That was not my favorite part of season six.”  Seriously, Jensen’s favorite is when Sam got his soul back.  That’s because Jensen had to work his ass off the first part of the season and they were able to go back familiar territory. 


Jared has been calling this place “NashVegas” all day.  

How are they both like their characters?  Jared – “Which Sam?” With soul, off demon blood. “With Ruby or without Ruby?”  Post Ruby.  “And conscious,” Jared clarifies.  He compares Jared with Sam in the third person and the whole answer was kind of weird. Jensen’s answer was more clear.  â€œDean and I have the same love for classic rock, classic cars, and he looks like me.”  If he could change anything about himself, he would make himself 3 or 4 inches taller.  He’s not shoot first and ask questions later though, so that’s different. 


What do they think as Adam?  Jared couldn’t think of the word “sparingly” when describing Adam’s time on the show.  â€œMy mind isn’t good right now.  It’s still tweeting.”  They would love Jake to come on and share some of the workload. Ultimately though, this is the Sam and Dean story.

The person next in line had a friend sick in the hospital and it was her birthday today.  Both Jared and Jensen took the phone and said hello to her.   


Jensen question.  Any director, alive or dead, who would you be an apprentice to?  Jensen – “Kim Manners.”   


What animal would their Patronus be? (Hey a Harry Potter reference I get now!)  â€œA moose!”  Jared yells.  Jensen says a tiger (get it, “Eye of The Tiger?”)

There was a woman nearly blind who couldn’t see Jared and Jensen, so they let her come up close to see them.  Jared – “I know what she’s thinking now.  Man, they’re hairy.” 

Update #3 – Here’s more notes from the Jared and Jensen panel

Jared and Jensen aren’t forming opinions about Castiel as God.  They’re anxious to see the first 3 episodes first.  

A little boy came up to the mic.  “I want to know is Sam still afraid of clowns?”  Jared – “Are you?”  No, Jared doesn’t think he is anymore. The boy isn’t afraid.  

Their brotherly bond comes easier because Jensen reminds Jared of his sister. 

Someone asked in a nutshell if things will feel different for them on a new show, you know, having new fans.  Jensen said no.  “Because you all will come with us.”  


Jensen – “The great thing about doing this show for 6 years is if any ghosts do come to visit me, I will be so prepared.” 


In addition to the question about what they will take with them on Supernatural, Jensen said he would take Jared’s hair and sell it on ebay.  

Someone brought up the amulet again.  Jensen told us all to let it go.  It’s gone.  (He was teasing us of course).
