Gremlins?
No, not Gremlins. It’s called Mr. Jester and his technical “upgrades.” He turned on a new caching feature designed to help the increased load we are getting on the site (always a good thing) and as a result, comments don’t show until 15 minutes after posting. I told him that might not go over too well! So, we are looking into this issue right now. If you post comments fear not! They did post. They do show in the latest comments area on the main page.
Also, there have been repeated complaints about the articles not showing. The common problem is that everything shows on the headers, left margins and right margins, but the articles are blank. Here are a few helpful suggestions:
1. Try it on a Firefox browser.
2. Close the browser and try again (I know, it’s a lame tech support cop out, but it really does work half the time).
3. If you are on IE8, hit the compatibility viewer button. I’m running IE8 and that always works.
4. If you are on older versions of IE, like IE6, I don’t know how to get it to work. See suggestion #1.
Any other problems? Like you’re on IE7 and still have the problem? Send me a message in the Contact Us section and I’ll be happy to try and resolve the issue.
Also, there have been repeated complaints about posts being eaten. Now this is a problem I get on several sites. It’s the authentication feature, where you have to type in the little letters to prove you’re not a bot. If you’re typing something long and hit post, it’s very possible that feature has timed out so it’ll eat your post. There are two ways to combat that:
1. Create a login. Go up to the tiny Login prompt on the top right hand portion of the screen. There’s a create an account option at the bottom. I rarely if ever have timeout issues when I’m logged in.
2. I highly suggest this on all sites, copy your text before submitting. Just a nice little safety feature in case the Internet connection resets or something. Lord knows it happens to me constantly.
There we have the tech support portion of your program. If you have any other problem than what’s been mentioned above, its Gremlins. Or computer demons. Yes, I just watched that Buffy episode. What was Whedon thinking?
I’m not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but if I just hit ‘enter’ as opposed to clicking on ‘post’, the page will reload and my comment goes bye-bye…it’s not posted, nor is it in the little box anymore. I’ve noticed this from before, not just lately.
AAWWW!!! I thought I was going to meet Bella and Lilith and could give then a piece of my mind about their AWFUL performances!!
OH WELL! Back to reality

Fair enough, the cats are off the hook … That also explains why I can’t read the stuff at work as their system is ancient and creaky in the extreme … I thought they had some cunning gizmo to stop us surfing in company time that particularly hated me for some reason! Not paranoid, not really … ๐
Whenever I think of gremlins I always think of a Bugs Bunny cartoon where he’s flying a plane and gremlin keeps trying to crash it.
Seems to me to be a fair image for computers that don’t work right too. GRIN
“Okay, well did you try turning it off and then on? Okay – go and turn it off. No no no. Just off. Alright give it a second – turn it back on. Okay, is it printing now? Great.”
Sorry… couldn’t resist ๐ You’re post just reminded me of this in a funny way ๐ Not meant to offend anyone ๐
