Wednesday’s Watching Supernatural 250TH: 12.09 “First Blood”
Everyone’s on the Hunt. Torture, Twists and Traps intensified a tacitly rendered raison d’être.

“I won’t let you sacrifice yourselves. You mean too much to me…to everything.” Supernatural came back last night with a bang, and a few bloody deaths. “First Blood,” episode nine of season 12, was everything I’d hoped for. I’m a die-hard fan of Supernatural, so I tend to go a little easy on episodes that…
Such a brilliant premise, such well shot scenes, such a powerful ending…such a huge waste of a golden opportunity Sigh, another season twelve dud. When I see episodes like “First Blood” where a tense situation is afoot, I often ask, “WWED?” What’s that you ask? “What would Edlund do?” of course! He would…
The Morning After Well that was exciting… and tense… and surprising! On the surface, “First Blood” was an action drama that tested the wills and skills of two opposing camps of warriors. Of course we all knew that somehow Sam and Dean would get out of the secret ops prison. The tension and art of…
This week’s episode was written by Andrew Dabb and directed by Bob Singer. The episode begins with a recap of the previous episodes and then shows us Mary at a diner in Lawrence, Kansas, sipping her coffee. She gets a call from Castiel, and he asks her to meet him at the bunker. The episode…
Welcome back to the Memorable Moments series! Once again I put together a list of what I felt were the best and most memorable moments from Supernatural season 12. This week’s focus is 12.06, “Celebrating the Life of Asa Fox”. The list varies from episode to episode depending on what has transpired. I hope you…
Like much of season 12 to date, there is a pleasant classic flavour to Asa Fox without sacrificing original, fresh storytelling along the way. Asa is another character-heady tale, with strong writing and unique insights into the hunter community, all the while bringing together a resilient collection of mother-figures around the Winchesters.
The Morning After Now THAT was an outstanding Supernatural episode! “Celebrating the Life of Asa Fox” had a generous helping of genuinely emotional moments, an original and exciting hunt, interesting family dynamics, continuity of character and plot history, and an outstanding selection of rock music (that has been missing from far too many episodes). Nightsky…
As Supernatural fans already know, Supernatural is a complex drama, built over years upon a foundation of mythology and recurring themes. Its dialog is intricate, often layered with thematic threads, double meanings and foreshadowing. The “Threads” review series closely examines these subtlties, to both more thoroughly appreciate the detail of the plots and to attempt…
Like many of you, I typically have a very emotional reaction to Supernatural’s season finales. I’m left reeling from the dramatic cliff-hanger drama that is designed to break fans’ hearts, hurting for Sam, Dean, Castiel, or all three at once. Add to that the morning-after let down, when the excitement is over, the adrenaline is…
The season 11 finale, “Alpha and Omega,” was written by Andrew Dabb, the new co-showrunner. The episode begins where last week’s episode left off.
Welcome to “Memorable Moments”. Each week I will visually recap what I felt were the best and most memorable moments from that episode. The list may vary from week to week, depending on what has transpired in that particular episode.
