With just two episodes remaining this season, time is running out for Dean and Sam to stop Roman and his Leviathan army from devouring the world. And if the title is any indication, it won't be easy! Good thing Bobby's there to help….. or is it?
Â
The penultimate episode of season 7 will find Dean and Sam acquiring the ingredients to an ancient weapon; one a celestial scribe claimed was the only way to slay the leviathans. Seems this scribe’s word was so valuable to God, that whenever it was found, it was keyed to start a cascade of events in motion including the creation of a prophet to read the text, and a group of angels to protect the prophet. The first one worked fine, the second…uh…not so much. The boys started this cascade last week when Dean broke the tablet out of its encasement. As icing on the cake, the ‘ping’ that went out to the angel protection force also triggered Cass’ awakening.
.jpg)
By the end of the episode we had the translation of the tablet and the ingredients needed for the weapon. The translation can be found in numerous places online but this version seemed to be the most complete.
“…the destroyer. Cut off the head and the body will flounder. Waste not thy time or your breath upon the Leviathan herd. Point thy blade at the heart of their master, for from him springs all their messages. Leviathan cannot be slain but by the bone of a righteous mortal as light and good as the Leviathan are hungry and dark, bathed in the bloods of the fallen: a fallen angel, the ruler of fallen humanity, and the father of fallen beasts. A man who comprehends the…â€
Seems the levies are being described as having a hive mentality with their society losing direction when they lose their leader… which simplifies things a bit for the story. Better to kill one than to find a solution to the numerous hoards that have branches all over the earth by now….since the leviathans are supposed to have infiltrated all the world governments.
Of course, the fallen angel is Cass who readily donated his blood to the boys before disappearing for parts unknown. Seems this new Cass doesn’t like conflict, claiming he has found peace, following bees and talking to racing dogs. Oh… and has no intention of helping clean up his leviathan mess. BAD Cass…SO not good. Can anyone say “Dean is frustrated?†Yeah...He should be, as should Sam!

The blood of ‘the ruler of fallen humanity’ is Crowley (played by Mark Sheppard) and the blood of ‘the father of fallen beasts’ is an alpha, and the only alpha that survived Crowley’s round up in season 6 was the Alpha Vampire (played by Rick Worthy). And I’m guessing neither blood will be easy to obtain.

The sneak peek shows Bobby’s return after exhausting his power on Roman and seems he’s has figured out most of the translation, the part the fans already know anyway, and confers it to Dean.
.jpg)
Â
During the conversation, Dean explains some of the concerns he has, and even though he eventually concedes to Bobby’s ideas, Bobby becomes angry and snaps very uncharacteristically at Dean, his anger manifesting itself as physical force that breaks the mirror behind Dean. (Love the duel camera angle here...the reality and the reflection. Gives an added eerie depth to the scene.)

Â
.jpg)
Immediately realizing what he had done, Bobby tries to downplay it, telling Dean to relax that everything is fine. Even though Bobby is very sorry for the outburst, the look on Dean’s face says he’s back to questioning Bobby’s stability.
.jpg)
Both know the path Bobby has chosen has never ended well for any ghost (but there is always a first time). Which is pretty much Dean's stance right now, based on the producer’s promo. In it, Bob Singer talks about Bobby’s increasing instability and the problem he is becoming for the boys. Sam is no longer in Bobby’s corner but Dean still is. And it seems even though there is no current lore for a friendly ghost, that doesn’t mean too much to Dean. For him, this is Bobby and he is still committed to trying to make it work. For me, I really wish the writer’s would have the boys on the same page once in a while. They just keep flip-flopping them on issues and that is not only annoying, but very poor literature.
And it’s not as though Bobby is unaware of what he is up against. He is trying to keep control, to help the boys get Roman before he loses all of his humanity….before he becomes more of a hindrance to the boys that an asset….before he becomes one of the monsters the boys would have to hunt. And Bobby knows Dean will burn the flask if he becomes dangerous….because if the situation were reversed, Bobby would do the same thing. Both are extremely seasoned hunters. I’d hate to see that happen and I’m guessing that is all part of the cliffhanger and won’t be resolved until season 8.
We’re told in the synopsis that Bobby tries a new ‘trick’ so hopefully this is an attempt to keep better control. However it apparently is very dangerous and may not go as planned. One more thing the boys have to deal with this episode
Bobby and Dean’s talk ends with both agreeing neither knows what “the bone of a righteous mortal†is, but can start with Crowley for the second blood. And in case you’re wondering, nope, so far no one else knows who the “righteous mortal†is either, though many are speculating its Dean.
Have to say here that the latest issue of TV Guide sported a photo of Dean tucking something under his leather jacket that has only been worn in this episode so far.
.jpg)
Many have said it’s a horn, but I’m wondering if it’s a tusk. Now neither a horn nor a tusk is technically a ‘bone’ per say, but its possible the series will use it as such anyway. Also, while researching the leviathan legends, I came across the one of the Behemoth (the primal unconquerable monster of the land) and the Leviathan. Seems these two monsters engage in a mortal battle and kill each other. And from the picture above, the behemoth is shown with tusks. It’s certainly would be a less painful way to go than taking a bone from Dean or some other poor soul. But this is all speculation on my part. We should fine out for sure on Friday!
In the promos and photo stills we see the boys set up an altar, perform the incantation and summon Crowley.
.jpg)
Yep… Dean is holding Ruby’s knife just in case Crowley isn’t as friendly to the boys as when last they met.
.jpg)
Now, with Crowley’s deep dislike for Roman and his desire to get the leviathans out of his hair, you’d think he’d be more than happy to give the boys his blood. But nope, he will give the brothers what they want but only AFTER they have all the other components. Anyone smell a rat besides me? Why would Crowley be so intent on killing Roman as to even put out a “no touch†order on the boys, and then stall creating the weapon? One has to wonder if Crowley has something else up his sleeve.
However it happens, the promos show the boys do eventually get on Alpha Vamp’s trail and end up in his mansion. Maybe Crowley helps with this part? Hope he tells them where to get the ‘bone’ too. Also have to wonder if Bobby is with them. Fans were on hand when the episode filmed at a gas station, and Dean is seen with the flask. (See BTS section below). I sort of hope they do, because we know they have trouble with the Alpha and it would be nice to have ghostly help if needed.

Once there, the formidable Alpha Vamp seems ever so delighted to see them, but that doesn’t last for long.
.jpg)
The old blood-sucker has quite a mansion complete with the painting of St. Michael that we see in the BTS photos from the episode. Why the series would use it here is a good question. But we can see it behind the boys in a frame from the CHCH promo and again behind Sam in the trailer as he asks the Alpha for his blood.
.jpg)
Actually Sam’s attitude had more of a frustration tone to it than a request, so Alpha must not be to cooperative, which is not surprising. Anyway at this point, things go downhill. Seems Alpha Vamp has decided to capture the boys and give them to the leviathans.

.jpg)
Guess this must be where the double-cross enters the picture. Have to wonder if Crowley has something to do with this. Gamble did say that Crowley had his fingers in everything.
The Alpha Vampire seems interested in trading the brothers to the leviathans, more specifically to Edgar, and I’m guessing it’s for some big chunk of the human pie the levies are supposed to be getting from their slaughter house.
Working with the leviathans is the same idea Crowley had at the beginning of the season. Roman wouldn’t go for it then, but maybe now he has a different perspective….or maybe Edgar has ideas of his own. He might not be as loyal to Roman as he first appeared, and he wouldn’t be the first leviathan traitor we’ve seen. How this plot plays out is the MOTW angle this time.
.jpg)
Of course, we all know the boys won’t go quietly, especially if they have help from a ghost, and at some point fighting breaks out in the mansion.
We see Sam attacked from behind by a vamp (Kevan Kase) in both the trailer and CHCH promos.
.jpg)
Immediately Dean goes to Sam’s rescue killing the vampire. Other quick clips of a fight include someone (which might be Dean) thrown down the Alpha’s formal dining table, Dean struggling with an opponent, and miss vampire familiar watching a frightening scene.
.jpg)
It also doesn’t seem to be smooth sailing between Edgar and Alpha Vamp either as they have a serious falling out.

Who’s on whose side? And how effective are vampires against the levies? Angels didn’t hold up to well. Who knows, maybe we see both the Alpha and Edgar bite the dust this week.
After the double-cross, Dean and Sam must get what they came for. The boys have to get the weapon this episode, as next week’s synopsis says they use it. Also Crowley won’t cough up his blood until the boys have everything else…or so we’re told. At any rate, I’m wondering if this is what we are seeing in the shot below.
.jpg)
Â
No idea who is standing at the head of the table either, but maybe Alpha Vamp survived Edgar. Besides, Worthy is a blast at cons! He can really dance! So, I’d like to think he is still in SPNverse. Hehehe
There are other short clips in the promos too. We have a scene with Roman and Edgar talking to a third unknown person in a corporate conference room and Roman doesn’t seem too happy.  Then we have a scary scene involving Roman and fire. Wonder if the third party was burned alive.

I don’t know about you all, but Edgar is scarier to me that Roman. Just saying.

We also have a brief clip of Dean saying,â€What can go wrong†(ever heard of Murphy’s Law, Dean?), Bobby angrily cursing, and a voice saying, “Look I won’t do it.†(It actually sounded like Cass to me, but Collins is not supposed to be in this episode.)
We also have to wonder about Kevin. He is now in the hands of Edgar, and as Kevin is in the finale with the boys, somehow he has to be rescued. That would seem to be a lot to pack into one episode, but it’s been done before. Of course, Kevin is with Edgar and Edgar is with Alpha Vamp vying for dibs on the boys, so maybe Kevin is part of the trade? Maybe when the boys leave the mansion, Kevin is with them. It would simplify things a bit.
So what are your thoughts on the episode? Have any ideas I missed, or have a better way to organize the events? Post below. Speculation is fun, and we only have 2 days left!
Happy episode everyone!

Official Synopsis: In order to defeat Dick Roman (guest star James Patrick Stuart) and the Leviathans, Sam and Dean must locate three key items. Castiel helps with one but for the last objects, the Winchesters must face two of their strongest opponents – an Alpha (guest star Rick Worthy) and Crowley (guest star Mark Sheppard). Meanwhile, Bobby (guest star Jim Beaver) tries out a new ghost trick that ends up being very dangerous. Written by CW Publicity
Fan favorite, Guy Norman Bee, directed the episode his 6th for the series. His other episodes include “Asylum,†“Family Matters,†“Frontierland,†“Hello, Cruel World,†and “How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters.â€
The episode was penned by the team of Andrew Dabb and Daniel Loflin both of whom joined the series in season 4. That have written 14 other episodes in that time including “Yellow Fever,†“Weekend at Bobby’s†and “Plucky Pennywhistle's Magic Menagerie†to name a few. They were also paired with Guy’s directing two times before; in “Frontierland,†and “Family Matters.â€
Cast (IMDb) includes Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins, Jim Beaver, Mark Sheppard (Crowley), James Patrick Stuart (Dick Roman), Rick Worthy (Alpha Vampire),
Mark Pellegrino (Lucifer), Osric Chau (Kevin Tran), Olivia Cheng (Susan / Leviathan), Benito Martinez (Edgar / Leviathan), Nick Hunnings (Mort), Hugo Steele (Leviathan), Kevan Kase.
Side note: It is not uncommon for IMDb to be in error with the casting overviews.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lots of BTS photos popped up this episode but, for me, the best was the one Guy Bee took of Dean.

I’m guessing that was at the location of the Alpha Vampires mansion. Now we all know why he’s one of the better directors! Beautiful photo! Hope he’s back in season 8!
But that’s not the only one Guy tweeted. He also sent this one he called “Angel Light.â€

And in case you don’t recognize it, it’s the same painting that was seen in the room where Zach held Dean a prisoner in “Lucifer Risingâ€

This prompted fans to speculate that Michael!Adam will rise from the cage and kill the leviathan head. It isn’t likely since it seems Jake Abel didn’t get to Vancouver for his movie before the series had finished the finale.
And it was a popular back drop for photos that week. S. E. Hilton and Jerry Wanek's nephew, Anders Larsen, were on set and had their pictures, along with Bob Singer, taken by Jim Michaels, in front of it.

S. E. Hilton took some photos herself from the visit and shared them with her twitter fans. Her photos and captions are below.

“Serge & Lou survey a shot. Lou said most difficult stunt this year was Sam getting hit by car in Bourne.â€

“One of my fav new friends.â€

“Just my "about to faint" face.â€
Kevan Kase also tweeted two pictures from the set. Seems he got to be a baddie this episode.
.jpg)
“Just wrapped up another great day on set roughing up the boys and having a few laughs.â€

†The boys on Supernatural found one way to shut me up.â€
Last but not least, JustJared posted some mighty fine set photos of Jensen and Jared. I’ve included some below. Their caption read, “Actor Jensen Ackles films a new episode for his hit show "Supernatural" with co-star Jared Padalecki. The boys filmed a scene at a gas station in cold conditions and Jared can be seen throwing jelly beans in the air to try and catch them in his mouth.â€

We even get to see the boy’s current ride and Guy Norman Bee on set.

But that’s not the only car we saw in set photos this episode. The last picture Bee tweeted was,â€It's a wrap for me and #SPN ep. #722 #therewillbeblood! Much thanks to my Kick Ass cast & crew!!! My view at wrap... “

Yep, THATâ€S BABY!!!!

What do you think about the idea that Crowley is the third person in the scene with Dick and Edgar in the office. Perhaps he has been working with Dick for a while through some scheme of his to give them something they want.
Or perhaps, Crowley has been able to get close to Edgar and infiltrate the Leviathans through Edgar's influence. It is hard to tell if Edgar has ideas of his own to be the head Leviathan because he doesn't show anything on his face.
But, if so, how would that work? How could the main Leviathan be forced out of power?
I did not hear a voice saying "I won't do it" as you suggested above. So have no idea if it was Cas or Kevin or Frank or ??
Looking forward to the next two episodes. NOT looking forward to the hellatus over summer. Am looking forward to a season 8 and beyond.
Yes…I saw the photos last night. It looks like a leg bone so if it’s human the person must be long dead….I hope. Much better that taking a bone from Dean, although to me he will always be a ‘righteous man’.
I posted the picture of the Behemoth that I found most often but there was also one with it being drawn as a water buffalo. And as it turned out, one of the photos Hilton took on set was a mounted head of a buffalo, but I didn’t include it in the article, because it doesn’t have tusks. It was apparently part of the set for the Vamp’s mansion however. That kind of gave me the idea that it might be a mortal animal than a person, but that sharp point more looked like a tusk. Never dawned on me that they would sharpen it! DUH!!
Interesting your thoughts on Crowley. That’s would be a good twist and I can see him meeting with both Roman and Edgar. And that would explain the flames too. I couldn’t figure out why Edgar was there if Roman was just disciplining a subordinate, but if it was leviathan business, than sure he would be there. And Crowley never gives up, so no reason he wouldn’t have tried again with Roman. Love it!
And yes, Edgar is very hard to read…that’s why he scares me more. Roman is powerful but not all that mysterious. Edgar is different. As far as Edgar having dreams of power, Roman wouldn’t have to be force out, Edgar could just kill him, especially now that he has the prophet with the weapon. But I really think Edgar dies this episode. All the levies are supposed to be gone by the end of the season, and taking out the second in command is a good start.
And I never thought of Kevin as the voice. It could be him.
I FIGURED WE WOULD NOT SEE THE IMPALA UNTIL THE FINALE', BUT WHATS WITH DEAN LOOKING LIKE A VAMP?
OH MAYBE IT IS A NIGHTMARE!
Jensen is playing Dean as drained, but that could be because this time of year the actors are really exhausted. They need their 2 months off to rest up because they start shooting s8 in July…usually right after the 4th. YEA!!!!!
And whenever a leader shows fear to his army, the weak get ideas of power. So yes, I was thinking Edgar would like to stage a coup, but with only 2 episodes left, now there wouldn’t be time.
Of course, it could just be poor writing. We shall see.
I have no idea about the bone of a righteous mortal, but when you mentioned it possibly being a horn, I wonder, could the unicorn from Plucky Pennywhistle be the righteous mortal? In lore they are pure, and light. All they need to do is find a real unicorn and use the horn.
Still is could be that Bobby's ideas came after Dean and Sam already discussed them. Have to wait and see.
That is a sweet picture of Jensen that Guy Bee took-very lovely color.
Forget about Bobby.
Forget about Kevin.
Forget about the Alpha Vamp.
Forget about Edgar and Dick.
BABY returns!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!
