Here at The Winchester Family Business, we like to follow distinguished alum and their new endeavors. We are pretty excited to see our long time friend Sera Gamble hit another milestone today, the third season premiere of her critically acclaimed show The Magicians.
Don’t know what The Magicians is about? The series is based on novels by Lev Grossman and was adapted for television by Sera Gamble and John McNamara. The series stars Jason Ralph, Stella Maeve, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta, Summer Bishil, Jade Tailor, and Supernatural alum Rick Worthy. The Magicians left off at the end of season two with Quentin (Jason Ralph) killing a God. The ramficiations are fierce, magic is now gone. Just when all hope seems lost there’s a twist, Julia (Stella Maeve) has a spark of magic left.
Better yet, how about this video that explains the show in less than 3 minutes, courtesy of SyFy, it’s home network.
This season three preview shows how each character is dealing with the loss of magic on earth and what lies ahead.
This is a pretty awesome promo clip that spotlights the characters to a haunting rendition of “The King of Pain.”
Not enough? We have more! Back in July at San Diego Comic Con, Nightsky again was able to be part of The Magicians press room and scored some great interviews with the cast and producers. We have all those interviews below. First is Sera and her co-showrunner John McNamara talking about the events of season two and what’s in store for season three. Sera’s mention of the Supernatural people is her awesome shoutout to Nightskty and The WFB!
Here is the interview with Stella Maeve (Julia) and Jason Ralph (Quentin). The time with them was short, but informative!
Up next is Hale Appleman (Eliot) and Summer Bishil (Margo) talking about the loss of magic in the season two finale and the impacts to their characters in season three.
Finally, here’s Olivia Taylor Dudley (Alice Quinn) talking about the impact of no magic on her character (identity crisis coming!)
Tonight’s premiere is called “Tale of the Seven Keys.” Here’s the synopsis:
Quentin tries to find someone who can bring magic back; Julia explores her small, but significant, gift; Eliot and Margo struggle under the hostile fairy occupation; Kady searches for a way to heal Penny.
Finally, we have the photos for tonight’s premiere:

Boy, did I get an interesting one for what turns out to be the only season three episode I have left to review. “Jus In Bello” is a highly buzzed episode from seasoned writer Sera Gamble, and it ended up being one of the highest rated of the season. As much great action, drama, and…
You know how a couple of reviews back I ranted about how I hate vampire stories in Supernatural? Well, “Bloodlust” is the exception. This is an artfully crafted episode from the most epic Supernatural writer, Sera Gamble. There are so many layers in this latest Winchester brothers’ adventure, aka storytelling at it’s finest. It reminds me…
When Steve Carlson dropped his latest album, Christmas Wish, I didn’t want to review it. I just wanted to snuggle on my couch in front of the faux fireplace and let the new tunes keep me warm. Even the brief snippet I wrote for The Riff felt like too much work. I did it anyway…
