The Winchesters Officially Dead
It is now officially confirmed, The Winchesters has failed to find a new home after being cancelled by The CW. The spinoff is dead.
Jensen Ackles announced it was all over on Twitter early Saturday after Deadline reported on Friday that all possible avenues for saving The Winchesters had been exhausted.
To all of you who watched, followed, and supported this story, THANK YOU. And to all those who brought this show to life…I couldn’t be more proud of what we all did together. But as they say…timing is everything. With a massive Network shift coupled with an industry… pic.twitter.com/qqDD9WC0KA

The odds are always against a show finding a new home, but this year poses particular challenges. While #SaveTheWinchesters was a good idea to rally a fanbase, fan outrage or activism wasn’t going to save the show in these turbulent times. The CW has decided to go in a different direction under new ownership, studios and streaming services are going through massive cutbacks on projects and staffing, and there’s a writer’s strike going on. Put all that together and saving a cancelled show becomes an impossibility.
The writer’s strike is likely what killed all possibilities so quickly though, which has brought any production commitments by networks and studios to a halt. Even before that, the climate was getting very nasty for projects. A show really had to stand out or be a proven money maker, something that didn’t really happen with The Winchesters in its only season. While Warner Brothers was interested in keeping the Supernatural franchise alive, the climate just wasn’t right to do so.
The question is, when or if will we see another Supernatural related project? Or do you think this is it for the franchise? Just for fun, because we have a lot of time to speculate, what sort of spinoff would you like to see? Bonus question, what network or streaming service would you like to see it on? Share in the comments.
Farewell The Winchesters, thanks for the brave attempt and at least trying to keep the franchise alive. As Jack said in the season (now series) finale, it’s time to get to the “there’ll be peace when you are done” part of the song.
