The Future of Walker (Season 4!) and Walker: Independence – Updated
Great News WalkerFamily! Walker has been renewed for season 4! Sitting at #1 in viewership in CW’s line-up, Jared Padalecki and his Walker posse snagged one of the few, coveted scripted program slots on The CW! The season will only be 13 episodes long, which is the same length as the recent new series Walker: Independence and The Winchesters.
Jared said of the renewal:
“I’m so excited and grateful to continue the Walker legacy for another season alongside our partners at CBS Studios and The CW,” said series star and executive producer Jared Padalecki. “We can’t wait to make Season 4 bigger and better than ever and to lasso even more fans into the Walker family. Let’s ride!”
It was nice to have Jared’s leading roles on the CW acknowledged by Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment at The CW:
“Over the past three seasons, Walker has become the top performing series on the CW with a passionate fanbase and a fantastic cast and creative team led by Jared Padalecki, who has now been a leading man on the network for over twenty years. As we build a great big new future for The CW, we are thrilled to be staying in business with our partners at CBS Studios and we cannot wait to have Walker back on the schedule.”
Media has been quick to pick up the news:
Variety
Entertainment Weekly
There is also a Deadline article, but they seem to be confused as to which Walker brother to feature in their header (the picture is of Liam)!
UPDATE: Per Alice’s comment below, Deadline later confirmed that The CW will not be renewing Walker: Independence. Here’s Variety‘s and The Hollywood Reporter‘s take on the news. Although expected due to the network’s trimmed down programming plans, this is still disappointing news. Maybe the History channel will pick them up? Jared and the showrunner, Seamus Kevin Fahey, have similar thoughts, according to TVLine!
