Supernatural Prequel in Development at CW, Produced by Jensen and Danneel Ackles, Robbie Thompson
Pinch me…I’m dreaming!! Seriously, did I read this exclusive from Deadline correctly? Be still my beating heart.
Per super TV sleuth Nellie Andreeva, Chaos Machine Productions, the company launched shortly before the end of “Supernatural” by Jensen and Danneel Ackles, has sparked the interest of The CW on a little pet project of Jensen’s, the story of John and Mary Winchester. They have snared an all-star as Executive Producer/Writer to pen the series too, our WFB pal Robbie Thompson!
Want even more exciting news? The current pitch is that this series will be narrated by Jensen as Dean Winchester, telling from his perspective the epic love story of John and Mary Winchester.
According to Jensen, “After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over. Because like we say in the show, ‘nothing ever really ends, does it?” When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey.”
It is important to note that this project is in development and is by no means a done deal. It is currently only in script stage. But, just like Walker, if you attach the right people to a project it generates enough buzz at the network to get some pretty strong attention. In this case, you can’t go wrong attaching Jensen Ackles to a project, let alone one of “Supernatural’s” most popular writers/producers. For us at The Winchester Family Business, Robbie Thompson is a particular favorite of ours, writing scripts with plenty of heart as well as with sheer creativity. He has a rare attention to detail and I know he will stay true to the canon of “Supernatural” while enhancing a story that has always deserved more attention.
So, fingers crossed and as news emerges about this project in the future, we will have it here! In the meantime, share your thoughts and speculations in the comments. I’m sure there are plenty of opinions out there!
