Walker Gets Season Two Renewal and Extended Season One from CW
Well, I wasn’t expecting this announcement in my inbox today! It looks like Jared’s little passion project has gotten some big attention.
“Walker,” along with 11 other CW shows scored an early renewal from The CW today. Not only is Walker getting a season two, but 5 additional episodes for season one were ordered, which now extends season one from 13 episodes to 18 episodes.
The CW has traditionally given early renewals to it’s shows, but this year has been different when so many have either just premiered or have yet to premiere because of COVID shooting delays. “Walker” is in it’s third week of airing, but the ratings for the first two episodes have been huge.
Aside from “Walker,” the other shows are “All American” (renewed for Season 4), “Batwoman” (renewed for Season 3), “Charmed” (Season 4), “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” (Season 7), “Dynasty” (Season 5) “The Flash” (Season 8), “In The Dark” (Season 4), “Legacies” (Season 4), “Nancy Drew” (Season 3), “Riverdale” (Season 6), and “Roswell, New Mexico” (Season 4).
This is especially stunning since a chunk of the shows on this list haven’t even aired their new seasons yet, including the current flagship show “The Flash.” Not that renewal was doubtful, but still, it goes to show that The CW is serious about getting back into business for next season. This is especially unprecedented for new CW shows, who usually get additional episode orders, but rarely a new season renewal with only 2 episodes being aired.
The other new CW show to air, “Superman and Lois,” received an additional 2 episode order for season one, but season two’s fate is too early to tell. There are also two other new shows, “Kung Fu” and “The Republic of Sarah” that have yet to air so their fates are TBD as well.
Mark Pedowitz, the CW President, made a special shoutout to “Walker” in his statement about the renewals:
“As The CW’s 2020-2021 season kicks into high gear, we are thrilled creatively with the direction of our first new shows out of the gate, ‘Walker’ and ‘Superman & Lois,’ that we wanted to order the additional episodes to complete their first seasons, and we are particularly pleased with the huge success of the launch of ‘Walker,’ which debuted as our most watched series premiere in 5 years.”
