Supernatural’s Alpha Vampire – The Perfect Monster
My third Supernatural character tribute is to the Alpha Vampire – the very first vampire and father of them all. He is probably tens of thousands of years old. Finely dressed and an eloquently talking man, he is also a ruthless beast who spreads fear by his presence alone. He is one of my favorite villains of the show. I wish he would have been in more episodes.
People are Strange by The Doors
People are strange when you’re a stranger
Faces look ugly when you’re alone
Women seem wicked when you’re unwanted
Streets are uneven when you’re down
When you’re strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you’re strange
No one remembers your name
When you’re strange
When you’re strange
When you’re strange
People are strange when you’re a stranger
Faces look ugly when you’re alone
Women seem wicked when you’re unwanted
Streets are uneven when you’re down
When you’re strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you’re strange
No one remembers your name
When you’re strange
When you’re strange
When you’re strange
When you’re strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you’re strange
No one remembers your name
When you’re strange
When you’re strange

Quotes
When your kind first huddled around the fire, I was the thing in the dark. Now you think you can hurt me?
– Alpha Vampire, 6.07 Family Matters
Alpha Vampire: The boy with no soul. I’ve got big plans for you. It’s amazing how that pesky, little soul gets in the way. But not for you. You will be the perfect… animal.
Alpha Vampire: Clever, clever boy.
Trivia and Minutiae
Alpha Vampire: The thing about souls — If you’ve got one, of course — is they’re predictable. You die, you go up or down. Where do my kind go?
Dean: All right, enough with the sermon, freak.
Alpha Vampire: I’m trying to answer the question. Now, when we ‘freaks’ die… where do we go? Not Heaven, not Hell. So?
Dean: Legoland?
Alpha Vampire: Little rusty on our Dante, boys?
Sam: Purgatory.
Legoland is a chain of Lego-themed theme parks all over the world.
Dante Alighieri was an Italian poet whose most famous work is The Divine Comedy, which chronicles Dante’s travels through the afterlife. The second book of the Divine Comedy is about Purgatory. Dante/the Divine Comedy were previously referenced in the episode title for 5.10 Abandon All Hope….
Alpha Vampire: See you next season.
This is an example of breaking the fourth wall, indicating that the series, and the Alpha Vampire, will return in season 8. For similar references in other episodes, see Meta Episodes.
In the Alpha Vampire’s mansion, at the entrance to the dining room can be seen the painting St. Michael slaying the dragon by Josse Lieferinxe which was also seen in the angel’s Green Room in 4.22 “Lucifer Rising”.
Actor
Alpha Vampire was played by actor Rick Worthy.
Mr. Worthy’s acting career began in 1993. Besides Supernatural, his work includes recurring roles in The Magicians (2015-2020), The Man in the High Castle (2015-2019), The Vampire Diaries (2013), CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2003-2010), Battlestar Galactica (2005-2009), Eyes (2005-2007), Star Trek: Enterprise (2003-2004), Felicity (2001), The Magnificent Seven (1998-2000), Star Trek: Voyager (1996-1999) and Murder One (1996-1997) among others.
Nightsky interviewed Rick in 2017 at San Diego Comic-Con about his role in The Magicians. Enjoy seeing Rick talk (bilingually) about his new show!
Alpha Vampire is seen in four episodes: 6.05 “Live Free or Twihard”, 6.07 “Family Matters”, 7.22 “There Will Be Blood” and 12.14 “The Raid”.

Editor’s Note: As Supernatural website writers, our forum is talking about a show we all universally love.Consequently, I proposed to our staff that we specifically turn our attention to guest stars, characters, themes or moments in the show that might help under-represented groups see themselves in Supernatural, and be more acknowledged as valued members of our #SPNFamily. Perhaps our public showcase of actors’ roles and diverse characters may also help the industry and the public (fans and non-fans) notice the contribution of under-represented groups to Supernatural‘s 15 year, record breaking run. Diversifying The WFB’s coverage is something we can do to not only support inclusion and tolerance, but go on record as being in favor of it and wanting to see more of it.
