Brown shed tears at the podium thanking friends and family from his hometown for his first Emmy win and also thanked the TV Academy, saying, “A lot of you may not have known who I was, but you checked the box anyway. And that makes me very, very happy.”

It started when Sterling K. Brown, accepting his award for best supporting actor in limited series/movie for “The People vs. O.J. Simpson,” saluted his wife from the stage: “Contrary to popular belief, I got the hottest chick in the game rockin’ my chain,” he said, referencing Jay’s “Public Service Announcement” from “The Black Album.”
