Less Than 30 Days To Go!!
If you look at our fabulous countdown clock (graphic courtesy of elle), we are under the 30 day mark. The last few weeks have been COMPLETELY insane from my end, so I’ve decided to take some time to slow down, share some fan news, and let you know how we plan on riding out the remaining days until premiere night!
My Personal Thank You
The whole comic con experience, meeting other bloggers, fans, and of course reporting the news back to everyone here is still making me go “Wow!” It’s certainly generated enough excitement for the upcoming season where I feel the energy in the fandom. It’s fantastic. Just about every blogger I ran into at the con heard of Supernatural and wanted to discuss the show. Most loved it, some questioned the angel story line, but those people only generated a lively discussion that engaged the entire table. This happened in the Chuck press room of all places. A showrunner for Fringe too, J.H. Wyman, acknowledged Supernatural with fondness since they’re part of the same campus now in Vancouver. Workers from both shows know each other well. I never heard chatter about another show like that.
Anyway, many people came here for their info and linked the articles to other sites, and for that I’m truly grateful. If you look at the most viewed articles, the Misha Collins interview has already moved to number two on the all time list. That’s pretty awesome. Thank you, thank you, and I’m so pleased I have such a wonderful audience to share all this great news with. My hubby and dogs weren’t as impressed. Neither were the kids, when they found out I didn’t meet Tom Welling.
Con News
Man, while I was gone, my email Inbox exploded with all the con news. So much going on.
First the bad news (I always like to get that out of the way first). The set tours for the upcoming Salute To Supernatural convention in Vancouver in a few weeks were cancelled. It’s been suggested the network had some confidentiality issues. Creation has an announcement on their site and they will be issuing refunds soon. I have good intel Creation is trying to make it up to the fans, and it will likely result in one or more additional guests announced. I heard one name, but I’ll wait for the official announcment.
I’ve been reporting on the Jus In Bello convention in Rome, Italy and was very pleased to see they were able to confirm their first guests, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins. More are definitely coming, but that’s a great start in getting those tickets moving. Again, for more info, go to http://jusinbello.it/. Congratulations guys! I’m so happy for all of you.
Laura also let me know some very good news for the con in Spain. She first told me about it while at Comic Con, but in my delay in mentioning the con they had an awesome development. Jared is coming! They have also confirmed
Claudio Serrano and David Robles, the actors who do Dean and Sam’s voices in the Spanish version of Supernatural and as a 3rd confirmed guest, the IMPALA will be there! Soon some more important guests will be confirmed. The event will take place in Barcelona, the June 12th and 13th, 2010. Info can be found here: http://www.klzevents.com.
There are also cons being planned in Argentina and Brazil, although the Brazil one currently is in question. I’ll announce more about these conventions as dates and guests are confirmed. Cons are also being planned by Creation Entertainment again in LA, New Jersey, and Vancouver, so it’s looking like a very busy year for the boys.
If anyone has up to minute convention news, please share in the “Contact Us” section or via comments and I promise I’ll be quicker in posting updates as I have been.
Running For The Finish Line
It’s funny, when I announced back in May that we would be posting daily (with the exception of Saturdays, since traffic for that day was people looking for gun dealers and got our site my mistake), elle2 emailed me instantly with a “ARE YOU CRAZY!?!” I told her I’d handle it somehow, and she could contribute whatever she wanted. Elle2 since then has more than stepped up, contributing some wonderful looks back at prior seasons, episodes by the various writers, a look at the music for each season (yes, season three is coming as soon as I can finish the clips), plenty of other great stuff and well as her landmark “Is Sam Winchester Too Stupid To Live?”, which has become one of the most popular articles on this site.
Then, several of you went and sent me your articles with permission to reprint. Faellie has contributed three fantastic articles, including “Dean Winchester is a Feminist,” which has sparked some wonderful and lively discussion. Tigershire, who by the way earns the title of the very first commenter on this site (with Suze as a very close second), submitted one as well as the idea for “Got Winchester,” which has gotten plenty of interest. I also thank so much Bethany for her article and idea for the your favorite Supernatural episode. Last but not least, Mae sent something just this week, and so far its another great look at our favorite show that we never considered before. Thanks everyone for your contributions, and making elle2’s and my impossible task easier.
It turns out we’ve been able to take on this “Hellatus” rather easily and get through this nightmare together. We only had to take one hiatus ourselves for Comic Con, but we all needed a breather. So, what’s coming up? Aside from elle2’s look at season three music (plus her season four stuff), I’ve got my Deeper Look at Season Four Sam Winchester and A Deeper Look at Season Four Dean Winchester, something I did last season and felt should be done again. I’m trying to compile Winchesterisms (so far I’ve only got Dean), I’ve got another few top ten lists up my sleeve, the Season One Awards (by demand of both of you) and if I ever find time, recaps for ”What Is and What Should Never Be” and the one missing episode from Season Three, “Red Sky At Morning.” Recaps are rough though. I love doing them, but they get half the interest other articles get. So, if you want specific ones, speak up!
I’m also going to be kicking up my weekly posts for Blogcritics, including a preview for The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural season five. I’m also trying to improve the template on this site and introduce some better menuing features. You might have noticed some tweaks here and there. Changes are coming surely but slowly. You have a suggestion for the site? Please send and I’ll pass it across the couch to the hubby (aka programmer) for consideration.
Also, I’m experimenting with this damned Twitter thing. So far I’ve only got a personal account and I’m listing my “tweets” on the right hand bottom of the page. Are people interested in following The Winchester Family Business on Twitter? I know, I think it’s a sign of the Apocalypse as well, which probably suits a Supernatural themed site. If you’re looking for really entertaining tweets (if not really confusing), try Misha Collins. His is a unique mind. Anyway, I’m still on the fence.
Okay, that’s all I’ve got for now. You got any fan news or developments to share? Use the comments below. I’d love to hear them.
We really appreciate all the work you guys put into this site, thank you so much. I don’t have anything on the news front, but I’ll add that I want Season 1 Awards too!! I believe there’s one on Youtube, and it’s hilarious.
If you’re looking for Winchesterisms, back when the Team Winchester forums were still active, some of us were compiling a ‘Supernatural Dictionary’, including all sorts of terms, as well as Winchesterisms. You can can check it out at teamwinchester.com/forum, or if you want I can send you a version that’s already compiled and alphebetized.
One month to go! *squee* *happydances*
I for one am amazed (and thrilled) to look at the countdown clock and see it under the 30 day mark. It does not seem that long ago when the clock first came into existence at or about the 84 or so day mark…wow, only 29 to go…and counting.
I’m thrilled with all the energy on this site and that so many have been daring enough to try their hand at something and then contributed it. I’m sure there are many more out there that are daring but just can’t find the time…sure glad you are there reading and commenting or just reading. Cool.
As for what I’ve got left, I’m polishing an article that might spark some discussion, one never knows. I’ll be starting (ohmygosh I haven’t started it yet!) my last installment of The Road So Far series — uh, yep, that’s Season 4 for those of you counting along 🙂 I have the music for that season lined up, just needs some tweaking and then of course there is one last (whee, last!) Hellatus Check to come. I have done nothing (as in absolutely nothing!– well, I scratched out some notes) on Winchesterisms (or Supernaturalisms) even though that was a request from so very early on in this hellatus (Tigershire I think…could be wrong there) but I’ll do something, promise. I have two other ideas rattling in my brain that may or may not come to frutition in the short time remaining — wow, short time. Cool.
Only 29 days. 😉
less than 30 days *happy dance*
this hiatus has been less of a hellatus because it’s been fun to read all the articles and to read all the comments and to generally share our fav show with other people who love it too – let’s here it for the love in! bring on season 5
Hey Alice,
I have been lurking and reading your stuff for a while now, but havent been commenting and I wanted to make amends.
I just got hooked on to SPN this season (with Family Remains.. yeah I know… Go Figure).. anyway, I think it was the guys who attracted me to see the very next one and since then I havent looked back.
So, I just wanted to say that this site has been AMAZING at keeping me sane waiting for season 5.
Thanks!
Ash,
Just goes to prove the point that ‘clunkers to classics’ there is something good to be found in every episode…Family Remains brought you to the show and to us!!! *aw, hugs!*
😎 — skips giddily away, 29 days, 29 days, 29 days.
I know right!
Now after watching all the other awesome episodes, I cannot believe that I got started with what is definately not the best they have had…. But am glad I did..
Its an awesome show and I CANNOT believe I hadnt even heard of it till I found it channel sufing.
I can’t believe how fast the days have gone by and we now have 28 days until season five. Since the countdown began all those days ago in may, 28 days seems like hardly anything.
Alice and elle2 (and the other guest writers) – you guys have made Hellatus a wonderful, fun experience this summer. I’ve enjoyed the lively discussions and debates, the fun lists and looks back at seasons/episodes past. And of course, the fantastic con coverage – as one who can’t attend the cons (but it’s on my lifetime to-do list, for sure!) it’s really great to have such detailed reporting on what takes place and what it means for the coming season. So thanks all for a fantastic summer – these next 28 days are going to zoom by now, I’m sure! 😎
Hi Alice,
I just found your site a few days ago and I’m having a blast catching up with every fantastic article, review and recap! I’m actually a big fan of the recaps; they always bring to my attention something I might have missed.
I’m also new to Supernatural this season – “On The Head Of A Pin” was my introduction to this amazing show. I came in on the scene where Dean is torturing Alastair and it was just disturbing on so many levels that I turned it off. But I couldn’t stop thinking about it. So I thought that if I watched the episode before that, it might make a little more sense. “Death Takes A Holiday” did nothing but make me even more confused!! It was then that I realized I had to go back to the beginning. So my journey began and I haven’t regretted that decision for a moment!!
Keep up the great work and here’s to Season 5!!
Here we go … Here we go … Here we go … 😆 😆 😆
Hey Alice
I found this site a few days ago and I had a wonderfull time reading throught it all! There are so may things I missed or just hadn’t thought of.
Here is another site with some incredibly good and incredibly long reviews: http://randomness.liquid-deception.net/episodes.php
Where that girl finds the time to write it all down…
As everyone here, I am realy looking forward to the new season. I invited a whole crowd of fangirls over to my place to watch the first episode and I can’t wait.
I started watching Supernatural in the first season which was broadcast last year here in holland. They went straight to season two without a break and when I was halfway through season two I bought the DVD’s and caught season four online. So this is actually my first Hellatus, and it sucks. No other word for it. At least you help me pass the time!
I never knew a Tv show could be so time consuming. And it’s contagious too, my dvd’s are in high demand. I just wish people would get their own instead of borrowing mine all the time…
I’ve got six people coming over to watch the first new episode. And my house is easily the creepiest place to watch Supernatural. It’s 120 years old and I know for a fact that two people died here of carbonmonoxide poisoning… in my bedroom. More specifically in the box bed I have rigged with a surround system and turned into a home theater… I’ts creepy as hell!
