Fan Video of the Week: Supernatural Reflections “Into the Mystic”
noun
1. absence of any sound or noise; stillness.
2. the state or fact of being silent; muteness.
3. absence or omission of mention, comment, or expressed concern:the conspicuous silence of our newspapers on local graft.
4. the state of being forgotten; oblivion:in the news again after years of silence.
5. concealment; secrecy.
Into the Mystic was one of those episodes that had heart and warmth around it even if a new MOTW cast its shadow on the characters of the story. Sam, Dean and Cas were great but two new guest stars really did steal the show with their presence: Two women involved in the brothers’s lives to give them help when they needed it. Mildred Baker as a retired elder woman was warm and playful and stole my heart immediately when we saw her appear in the episode but still one rose above her even if the bar was already high.
How awesome was Eileen Leahy? Her introduction was complex and enticing. We saw what happened to her in her past (although we didn’t know it was Eileen at the time). Then she seemed to be the MOTW banshee (or it was teased that way) but she was something better. She is a Men of Letters legacy but even more, a hunter who lost her hearing when she was a child. She was hunting the monster that killed her parents. Her deafness didn’t stop her and make her vulnerable. She was like any other character in the show. Robbie Thompson made her disability just be a day in the life normal. She was well portrayed and acted by Shoshannah Stern. After the episode, many fans send them both gifs to thank them for the character Eileen. You can see them at the end of the article. Most of all, she and Sam had great chemistry. Hope she will appear as their friend in the future.
Eileen gave me the idea for the fan video of the week. The word Silence fit and I found two videos with two different songs. The first lyrics fit over all season 11 with the Darkness. It fits also for Dean’s and Sam’s situation in this episode so over all I am pretty content what I found.
A sign language (also signed language) is a language which chiefly uses manual communication and body language to convey meaning, as opposed to acoustically conveyed sound patterns. This can involve simultaneously combining hand shapes, orientation and movement of the hands, arms or body, and facial expressions to fluidly express a speaker’s thoughts. They share many similarities with spoken languages (sometimes called “oral languages”, which depend primarily on sound), which is why linguists consider both to be natural languages, but there are also some significant differences between signed and spoken languages.
Wherever communities of deaf people exist, sign languages have been developed. Signing is not only used by the deaf, it is also used by people who can hear, but cannot physically speak. While they use space for grammar in a way that spoken languages do not, sign languages show the same linguistic properties and use the same language faculty as do spoken languages. Hundreds of sign languages are in use around the world and are at the cores of local deaf cultures. Some sign languages have obtained some form of legal recognition, while others have no status at all.
A common misconception is that all sign languages are the same worldwide or that sign language is international. Aside from the pidgin International Sign, each country generally has its own, native sign language, and some have more than one, though sign languages may share similarities to each other, whether in the same country or another one.

Supernatural Sound Of Silence Sam Winchester’s Anthem made by: darlene3d
The Sound Of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel.
Hello darkness, my old friend,
I’ve come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
‘Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence.
“Fools,” said I, “You do not know.
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you.
Take my arms that I might reach you.”
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, “The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence.”
Simon & Garfunkel was an American folk rock duo consisting of singer-songwriter Paul Simon and singer Art Garfunkel. They were one of the most popular recording artists of the 1960s and became counterculture icons of the decade’s social revolution, alongside artists such as the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and Bob Dylan. Their biggest hits—including “The Sound of Silence” (1964/1965), “Mrs. Robinson” (1968), “Bridge over Troubled Water” (1969), and “The Boxer” (1969)—reached number one on singles charts worldwide. Their often rocky relationship led to artistic disagreements, which resulted in their breakup in 1970. Their final studio record, Bridge over Troubled Water, was their most successful, becoming one of the world’s best-selling albums. Since their split in 1970 they have reunited several times, most famously in 1981 for the “The Concert in Central Park”, which attracted more than 500,000 people, the seventh-largest concert attendance in history.

Supernatural- Silent Lucidity made by: LJSSPSY
Silent Lucidity by Queensrÿche
Hush now, don’t you cry
Wipe away the teardrop from your eye
You’re lying safe in bed
It was all a bad dream
Spinning in your head
Your mind tricked you to feel the pain
Of someone close to you leaving the game of life
So here it is, another chance
Wide awake you face the day
Your dream is over… or has it just begun?
There’s a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn’t realize and you were scared
It’s a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind
Commanding in another world
Suddenly you hear and see
This magic new dimension
I- will be watching over you
I- am gonna help you see it through
I- will protect you in the night
I- am smiling next to you, in Silent Lucidity
[spoken during solo]
(Visualize your dream)
(Record it in the present tense)
(Put it into a permanent form)
(If you persist in your efforts)
(You can achieve dream control)
(Dream control)
(How are we feeling today, better??)
(Dream control, dream control)
(Help me)
If you open your mind for me
You won’t rely on open eyes to see
The walls you built within
Come tumbling down, and a new world will begin
Living twice at once you learn
You’re safe from pain in the dream domain
A soul set free to fly
A round trip journey in your head
Master of illusion, can you realize
Your dream’s alive, you can be the guide but…
I- will be watching over you
I- am gonna help to see it through
I- will protect you in the night
I- am smiling next to you….
Queensrÿche is an American heavy metal band formed in 1982 in Bellevue, Washington, out of the local band the Mob. The band has released 14 studio albums, one EP and several DVDs, and continues to tour and record. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Geoff Tate, guitarists Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton, bassist Eddie Jackson and drummer Scott Rockenfield.
Queensrÿche has sold over 20 million albums worldwide, including over 6 million albums in the United States. The band received worldwide acclaim after the release of their 1988 album Operation: Mindcrime, which is often considered one of the greatest concept albums of all time.[citation needed] Their follow-up release, Empire, released in 1990, was also very successful and included the hit single “Silent Lucidity”. The band has received three Grammy Award nominations for songs off both albums. In the late 90s, drummer Rockenfield received an individual Grammy nomination. In 1997, guitarist and primary songwriter DeGarmo left the band for personal reasons. Over the years, his replacements have been Kelly Gray, Mike Stone, and Parker Lundgren, respectively.
Quotes:
Sam: Eileen, you okay?
Eileen: I’m nervous. If this really is the banshee I’ve been looking for-
Sam: Eileen, in my experience, revenge is not all it’s cracked up to be. Killing this banshee is not gonna bring your parents back.
Sam: I was studying law at Stanford when my brother came and got me so we could get our revenge.
Eileen: You’ve been hunting together ever since?
Sam: Yeah, I wouldn’t do this without my brother. He’s had my back every step of the way, even when I let him down.
Mildred: You wanna know the secret to living a long and happy life?
Dean: Actually, I do.
Mildred: Follow your heart. You do that, all the rest just figures itself out. I did that, I followed my heart. Traveled the world, made people smile, forget about their problems for a while. And then my heart said, ‘well, you’re done.’ I had my fill and retired and I love it.
Minutiae:

First of all, two of my favorite songs of all time! Silent Lucidity is on my Supernatural fav playlist! Thank you for that!
Second, THREADS readers, we missed something!! The Episode 5 “Thin Lizzie” review specifically identified ‘silence’ or quiet as a theme of the Darkness. How did we not see that Eileen’s deafness reflected that quiet of the Darkness?!?
Glad you liked them Nightsky. I battled a while for the idea what to use and Silence/silent came to my mind when I noticed the “Thank you” tweets. Maybe it is a new valid thread for the Darkness. 🙂

Silent Lucidity is my favorite song from Supernatural. The lyrics just captured that whole scene in Heart perfectly. It is also one of favorite songs ever. Just so beautiful
As much as I love S&G Sound of Silence my new favorite version of that song is Disturbed’s cover just so hauntingly beautiful…

Silence and peace seem to be a theme this season. It’s interesting that Sam’s journey is painfully torturous.
It is a beautiful song and Sound of Silence is really great song as Disturbed cover. Too bad that there was not any video made from it. Maybe we will get one in the future. Thanks for reading!
