TV Fanatic Roundtable: Supernatural 11.09, “O Brother Where Art Thou?”
Did anyone see the movie “O’ Brother Where Art Thou?” It’s one of my favorite films! It’s a very clever and totally bizarre story loosely (and I mean loosely) based take on Homer’s The Odyssey. Instead of Ancient Greece, the setting is the Depression era Southern United States. You know what one of the heavy themes of the episode is? Faith. Were they saved because George Clooney’s character broke down and prayed for their lives, after the others professed their faith earlier, or was it just perfect timing of the flood that did save them? There were tons of biblical references, and yes the cyclops was a one-eyed bible salesman.
What does this have to do with the Supernatural episode of the same name? It was nothing like that. Not remotely. Their exploration of faith and the existence of God was a weak attempt to setup some bloody horror scenes. But hey, that’s just my opinion. What did our panel of Supernatural experts say? Well, myself, Nightsky, and Christine Laskodi and Sean McKenna from TV Fanatic just wondered where the hell Castiel has gone. Oh, we talked about other things too. There was plenty to discuss!
