CW Official Press Release for 11.09 Plus Spoilery Tidbits
The CW issued the press release for 11.09 and several outlets have spoilers for the next few episodes.
SUPERNATURAL 11.09 “O Brother Where Art Thou?” (December 9):
Amara (guest star Emily Swallow) unleashes her power on the local townspeople as she issues a shocking challenge. Dean (Jensen Ackles) tries to better understand the hold Amara has on him, while Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Crowley (Mark Sheppard) come up with a plan that could have disastrous consequences. Robert Singer directed the episode written by Eugenie Ross-Leming & Brad Buckner.
Enstarz has more on episode 9
We know who the Darkness is, and before The CW series breaks for its winter hiatus, viewers will know who is sending Sam (Jared Padalecki) his mysterious visions.
One hint – it has nothing to do with John Winchester.
EW talked to Jared and Jensen on whether God will help or hinder the Winchesters.
TV Line answered a few Castiel questions this week.
Question: How is the Team Free Will relationship going to be this season on Supernatural? We will see them working more together? –Beatriz Ausiello: Let’s just say it’s complicated — and there wasn’t a lot that Misha Collins could reveal about the trio’s interactions during our recent set visit. “I feel like that dynamic where Cas is helping the boys and we’re going to solve problems is always a short-lived one,” Castiel’s portrayer shared. “Things, generally speaking, fall apart sooner or later and somebody is lying to someone else, and there’s subterfuge dissembling it and everything is sort of dysfunctional. So that’s where we’re heading.”
Question: I was wondering if you have any scoop on Castiel’s Supernatural storyline? —Zarah
Ausiello: Even in these times of Darkness, don’t expect the angel to act as middle man between the Winchesters and his brethren upstairs. “Cas is very much alienated from Heaven and its machinations,” Collins explains. “In fact, we learn — spoiler alert — that Cas is pretty much reviled by everyone in Heaven. He’s not involved, and he doesn’t have the inside scoop at all. He’s definitely not a conduit to Heaven in any way.”
Who do you think is sending Sam his vision? What makes Sam work with Crowley? Will their plan bring disaster? Will Dean be able to understand Amara’s hold on him? It sounds like Cas may be going out on his own. Do you think that’s a good idea? Let us know in the comments or in the spoiler discussion and episode 9 discussion threads.
I think the visions are coming from Lucifer. He said- “I never could fool you” and I don’t think Sam has had enough contact with Michael (definitely not enough contact with God) for that to be an accurate statement from him. But Lucifer never could fool Sam. I think that the only thing that can possibly be powerful enough to help the Winchester’s lock the darkness away again would be “The Light Bringer”. As for Crowley and Sam working together- I think Crowley is going to realize that he unfortunately does not have many options in the way of retaining any semblance of power and he is the only one who can really access the cage so he and Sam will probably feel the need to team up to put an end to the Darkness. Seeing as how Dean was thoroughly against the idea, I think Crowley will seem like his only option until Dean comes around- possibly with Rowena and Cass in tow. Once they all realize how powerless they are separate, they can form the “unlikely alliances” that were teased about this past summer.
I keep going back to the idea that it’s Michael who is calling out to Dean since he was the one who was supposed to be possessed by Michael to begin with. And Michael did possess John at one time. Maybe that’s why he appeared in Sam’s vision. Since Sam was in the cage he apparently still has a connection in some way. If it was Lucifer calling it doesn’t make any sense to me why he’s is calling Dean’s name and not Sam’s.
Amara does have some kind of hold on Dean. When he wanted to take on Amara he had a flashback to when he was with adult Amara and he had a puzzled look. I don’t think he realizes what is happening to him when they’re together but after when the connection is broken.
Also have been wondering about the items that have been collected recently. It’s possible one or a combo could be used against Amara.
The list I have so far is:
Book of the Damn (if ever found)
Codex and Charlies decoding
Demon Tablet (Thought it was interesting they made a point of finding it.)
First Blade. Although it can only be used by one who carries the Mark. At this point Amara is the only one in the storylines has the it. And, I think, Cas is the only one who knows where the First Blade is hidden. If she gets it someway it may be what she’ll use in her battle with God.
Then there are the tried and true Angel Blade and Demon Knife.
I love your list.
Do we know for sure that Amara/ the Darkness is DANGER????
She is devouring souls but perhaps she will be more benevolent once satisfied.
I had noticed how obvious they were making all the items above they had collected. My only thought is they need a profit to read the demon tablet Yes the first blade is still hidden and only known where by Cas and the Codex and Charlies decoder they need a powerfull witch for that. Maybe this articles could become useful when they all join together to remove Amara
I don’t think it is Lucifer sending the visions because there is no reason he would say “I never could fool you” because he never really tried to fool Sam except the once when he appeared as Jess. Moreover, when last seen Lucifer evinced quite a hatred of Sam and the desire to inflict as much pain on him as possible. So if it was him in Sam’s vision, why is he acting all touchy feely and benevolent towards Sam? Why would he want to help him? And why is he only NOW able to communicate with Sam? They better have a darn good, plausible explanation for this turn of events if it is Lucifer. As played by Mark P, Lucifer is one of my favorite SPN characters ever, so I hope they don’t do anything to ruin that wonderful character just to suit the plot. But as for Sam finally revisiting the cage and seeing him again? I can’t wait!
What if Amara is in league with Lucifer. Lucifer could be sending Sam messages suggesting he has answers or can help them in their fight with Amara when in fact he is trying to lure Sam to the cage to free him so he can fight by Amara’s side.
Just for once I’d like for Sam to NOT be the seasons boob who ruins everything.
Boy that’s for sure!
we’ll see, 🙁 i think that Sam does something dangerous for Dean, get blamed for the 1,000x it blows up in his face and a stupid cliffhanger poor Sam 🙁
I admit I am afraid they will go that way. I really hope not.
Yeah….. I can see that bus bearing down on Sam as we speak. My current speculation is that in some way THE D in her mature guise is still locked up somehow, and it’s Sam that ends up setting her free ultimately allowing her to merge with Amara and become the big threat. I’m tired of F.U Sam, the brother who ruins everything. Even when he’s done something good, like save Dean from the mark people are still arguing about how that was the worst thing ever. There’s no shortage of blame going round and the last thing the character needs is another catastrophic mistake that allows fans to flambé him anew.
That or, as some fans are already saying, now that God may be talking to Sam, God will be the ultimate bad guy and poor little Amara is the one to root for. You know, eating souls, leaving people murderers isn’t THAT bad, because anyone who likes Dean is good. God will suddenly be worse than Lucifer.
poor baby cant catch a break:( kinda like what happened last time with 10×09 🙁
I don’t know Jen. She called the angels “winged suck-ups” and she seems to hate them. And Lucy is one of the ones who locked her up. But I guess we’ll find out in a couple of weeks. I still think God is the force behind the visions, and I’m sticking with that right up until the minute that I’m proven wrong!:D
Thanks ladies I didn’t think of it that way Well hopefully we will know soon :(:(:(:(
Doubled up my answer
“I was never able to fool you” sounds like something Rowena would say to Sam. Now that she has Nadya’s Codex and the Book of the Damned, she might be capable of using Sam’s memories to create visions in his mind. She could even have the power to raise the cage from the pit. Maybe she’d work to free Lucifer in the belief he’d be grateful enough to give her Crowley’s place. As for why she’d need Sam I have no idea– unless, perhaps, the only one who can let Lucifer out of the cage is the one who put him in.
I just wanted to add that for Sam to free Lucifer and Michael from the cage might not be such a bad thing. It might even be God’s will. After all, it was the two mightiest of archangels who led the cosmic battle that imprisoned the Darkness. What they did once, they might be able to do again–with the help of the Winchesters, of course. The best brother warriors of heaven fighting side by side with the best brother hunters on earth? That could be interesting. 🙂
That’s what I’ve been wondering. If Sam and Dean let both Lucifer and Micheal possess them, then the “cosmic battle” will fun to watch.
Lilmac48, I hadn’t thought about Sam and Dean letting Lucifer and Michael possess their bodies, but that would be very interesting! I just hope the archangels could be trusted to give the bodies back.:(
Actually, I don’t really want a season of Sam and Dean being Lucifer and Michael. What fun is it to watch those two characters fight? I want to watch Sam and Dean handle this problem themselves, not be angel condoms.
i agree
Ok I think some of us have been searching “Google” for possible ideas too O Brother where Art Thou. I suppose the answer could just be Dean searching for Sam Who I feel has gone to Crowely about openning the cage or at least going to the cage and causing said disastrous consequences.
Generally searching Google brought up the movie with George Cluney. Changeing the search words slightly brought up something interesting.
1) The “O Brother” part of the phrase may have various modern-day conotations, such as in phrases like, “Brother can you spare a dime?”, “Band of Brothers” (ala, the movie of the same name), or several religious or fraternal orders in which your fellow member is considered to be “your brother.”
2) Yet, the first story about “brothers” is the biblical one of Cain and Abel, and this phrase seems to conjure up that story in most people’s mind whenever it is referenced.
3) The “Where Art Thou?” part of the phrase has two biblical conotations, especially with the use of the word “Thou” instead of “You”. The first, of course, is the Cain and Abel story in which (by translation of the story), God first asks Cain about Abel: (9) “And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?” (10) “And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.” If you follow along these lines, you can easily picture Cain then asking this question forever as he was cast out into the land of Nod, “O my Brother, Where art thou?”
