I hope you enjoyed this week’s “Memorable Moments” review! Please share what your picks would be for these categories, or offer categories of your own!
Did you notice the poster over Dean’s shoulder in your best broment moment pic? It reads “PROTECT YOU FOREVER” in caps. Coincidence? I. think. not. So that raises the question… protect who? Sam? Amara? Both? Interesting placement, damn them!!! And that was the scene where Dean was adamant over going after Amara and striking while they can.
Maybe that’s why young Amara looked so content walking thru the crowded street. She’s confident in her protector always being there for her. I loved how she kinda looked up to the sky and rolled her eyes white… loved this actresses portrayal the best so far.
Alycat, I had also noticed the protect poster over Dean’s shoulder, and since he’s looking at Sam at the time, I’ve decided that it means he will protect Sammy forever. At least that better be what it means!
Looking at Sam, talking about Amara – maybe it’s foreshadowing the conflict to come for Dean? Wanting to protect Sam always and forever and yet being compelled to do the exact same for Amara/The Darkness because of their bond. Poor Deano.
Must say I’m really loving Berens. And the direction was beautiful. Except for the cheesy hand but hey, if the rest of the episode is that good? Cheese away!
I agree that it is foreshadowing the increased conflict for Dean. The poster had a moon and the darkness on it. Wednesday had pointed out that the theme of the moon and darkness signifies Amara or her influence. In Thin Lizzie the first axe victim was standing by the window with a view of the moon at night. If God is Light/ Sun it makes sense that Amara is Darkness/ moon. I also just noticed that most of the time Amara was out talking to people taking souls she was doing it at night… Len and Babysitter in Thin Lizzie and Teen girl in this episode. Dean is conflicted. He was the bearer of the MOC and is drawn to Amara and had protected her as a baby and was unable to kill her right off in this episode. Dean also was and will always be Sam’s older brother and all that has meant since the beginning (of his life and maybe even time). I am pleased that the connection did not stop Dean from attempting to kill Amara when she hurt Sam. Loved her shocked look. But I do not think the conflict and struggle is over. But I am on board with everyone that it will eventually mean protect SAM!
Hi AlyCat22
Great catch!
I feel the same as samandean10, that it signifies ‘protecting of Sam forever’. However I do agree that it could end up Dean being pulled between protecting Sam or Amara/Darkness.
I also liked this actress playing Amara. She was very entrancing.
As for the stain glass window in Amara’s room it looks like two men striking a man on the ground that has a cougar looking cat stalking the fallen man. Not the most pleasant window for a girl, but Crowley was the decorator it makes sense.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Gah! I can’t make out any of those stained glass window scenes . Or Find out what biblical scenes they are depicting? Anybody else?
Karen, as usual I love your picks, especially for most nostalgic moment. This whole season seems like an exercise in nostalgia, with so many references to earlier seasons and with the brothers acting more like the old Sam and Dean than they have in years. I’m loving it! But I would add one more category: Most Electrifying Scene. My pick for that is that final vision of Sam’s, of the cage. I felt such a jolt of excitement, and I can’t recall the last time a scene produced that reaction in me. Thanks for continuing to do these articles!
Hi samandean10
Great suggestion on the Most Electrifying Scene. I will definitely being adding this to my list.
I’m so happy you’re enjoying these…I love doing them as it makes me look at what really impacted me.
Thank you for your comments.
Thanks Karen. Enjoy your picks and the whole recap. Loved your choice for Best Ironic. Really did depict with clarity the path for these two characters/ servants of God and there struggle for power and being human. Agree saddest moment… poor Len. Joins the group of most sympathetic characters on the show. I did not notice the newscaster until you pointed her out. Yes, she looks like she could be a demon. I do agree the Asylum was creepy but the outside did not match the interior. I guess Crowley renovated to make it look like the inside of a castle and put all the stain glass windows in the back. ;). I thought Crowley’s self help moment was ridiculous. Crowley knows Amara is the Darkness, he said she was evil, and she is powering up on souls. To paint this as a domestic situation with a rebellious teen was borderline absurd and then downright laughable when he was shown actually looking at a book about teens. For me the whole concept was idiotic but I know how this show likes to glorify the empowered whiny rebellious teen girl.
I agree with Samandean10 that Sam’s vision of the cage should win Best Reveal. Very exciting. I also note that I still think the visions are directed from God because the cue to the vision was a question to Sam from Dean “I don’t suppose God’s decided to share some wisdom on the matter?” I also would add Cas’s best moment was standing his ground and asking Dean why he did not kill Amara. Best Looks could kill moment was the look Amara flashed Dean when he attempted to kill her. And finally I would add the best Cas- Sam connection was when they both knew Dean’s explanation about why he did not kill Amara was only a bit of the real story.
Nice moments Karen. I love these pictorial reviews. It’s nice to see that Sam still has the puppy dog eyes. Poor puppy, he looks terrified about what his visions might mean. I agree with S&D, I got such a jolt too as soon as I realized he was seeing THE CAGE!!! THE cage. OMG. I think we’ll be getting more on that tonight. Can’t wait!
