Interview With Jared Padalecki – Comic Con 2015
This is a pretty interesting interview. Oh, it’s classic Jared, the run-on sentences, talking really fast, the smiles, the humor, the pauses, and I love it. What was most interesting about it though is that out of everyone I spoke to that day, Jared was the most open about spoilers! He gave away a couple of good ones, including one that just made everyone at the table go nuts. So I’ll issue a spoiler alert, but the one about episode 4 is so damn worth it.
Before I start, I need to fill you in on a “moment.” The panel in Hall H took place before our press room session. We were all given little miniature lights that said “Always Keep Fighting” on it. (I’ll have a picture of mine in the panel report). When Jared saw all those lights and audience member shouted it was for “Always Keep Fighting” Jared was so blown away and touched. He got on his feet and gave us all a standing ovation. He talks about that moment at the beginning of this video and what Always Keep Fighting means. Also in the beginning of the video, he met Jules from SuperWiki, who finally made it this year to Comic Con. I agree Jared, the show should be paying them for that information! It’s invaluable and we use it too.
Below is the transcript of the interview, which was a bear to translate (as usual) because Jared talks so damn fast and has some amazing run-on sentences. But I’ve learned throughout the years that’s what makes Jared Jared, and I love him for it.
(transcript starts with him talking about “Always Keep Fighting” after a blogger at the table casually told him what an inspriation he’s been.)
“It’s become much like Supernatural; it’s greater than the sum of it’s parts. It’s this little kooky show about Hookman, Bloody Mary, Wendigos, all of a sudden 11 years later…(smiles) all of a sudden it’s become this family. We’ve all devoted so much time to each other, it’s almost like being an alumni of a college or something. When I meet someone who watches “Supernatural” I’m like “Me too!” I’ve devote way too much time of my life to that show as well. So it’s a fun camaraderie – the fandom and the writers and the actors – and I feel like truly we’re all a part of this. Same with “Always Keep Fighting.” It means something to me, it wasn’t bullshit that I’ve always dealt with.
Jeremy spilled that same will be embracing…seeking out a higher power.
(Jared had some real funny looks over my choice of “embracing”). Sam’s going to embrace what? Jeremy! (starts looking for Carver). Yeah, so the darkness pre-dates God, Crowley, Castiel, Heaven/Hell, so I think Sam, ever the researcher is trying to figure out someway to figure out what’s going on. Alongside his brother of course because there’s been too many seasons of Benny or Ruby or Soulless or Lucifer or Mark of Cain, you seen the brothers doing this too much, now we’re back together. Sam is trying to find someway to make sense of this Darkness and to figure out how to beat it for the sake of himself, his brother, the world. He does start to have visions, or memories that maybe didn’t exist of a higher power, (smile) Rob needs to come back. But we’ll see Sam explore a side that we’ve never really seen him explore in ten years.
How do you feel about being directed by one of your friends, whose a colleague and like a brother?
Are you going to tell him what I say? (Laughs) It’s fantastic. He’s one of my best friends and he’s a great actor, a great director, he’s a very hard worker, he does his research. As an actor, he’s directed me for ten years and vice versa. We’ll give each other like, hey remember this scene, we just came from the police station. And also, just by any actor, he knows how to talk to actors. Sometimes directors come in and they don’t really know (what to) get from you. They’re like “say it louder.” Where as an actor will come in and be like, “Listen, there’s some urgency because if Sam and Dean don’t get here by this time and the phone rings…so you naturally you’re going to talk a little louder and faster. An actor will change the ingredients to the recipe as opposed to like pouring on sugar it after the cake is made. Add the sugar before then I’ll make the cake sweeter. It’s great. He’s one of my best friends and I trust him. He probably has said every single to me in 11 years than anybody can say to anyone else, so it’s not going to offend me whatever he says. And if I just doing a poor job I’ll just say buddy, do it again. I’ll mention to Misha “You’re just making this worse.” But it’s great.
Are there any moments coming up in early in the season that you just can’t wait for fans to see?
Yeah, episode 4. It’s called “Baby” and it’s all about the Impala (the entire table gasps). It takes place in the Impala, it’s going to be super cool. Other TV shows don’t get to do this, but the Impala is going to be in every shot, lots will be in the Impala, we’re going to hear what’s going on outside, the character comes inside to get something real fast and you hear what’s going on, it’s going to be cool. For me that’s a dream come true. It’s all about the car and the car’s experience. It’s almost like the car is a character.
A throwback to this season. The fourth main character.
Absolutely. The third in the first couple of seasons. We see the crazy Winchester world from point the view of the Impala. I can’t wait. It’s going to cool. We get tell cool stories. Sam and Dean will be out of the car and we’ll hear some stuff and they’ll get back in and they’re bloody. It’s kind of cool what you don’t see. What you hear and hear about but don’t see. I can’t wait.
Can you fan out and get Jeremy to recognize Charlie?
Jared nods agreeingly.
Also, Jared, let us see the hair.
(Jared takes off his beanie and waves his hair around, pretty much rendering us speechless). It’s still there. It’s one of those “get out of the shower and put the hat on” and so.
Umm to avoid spoilers could someone kindly put the time stamps of them and how long they are for?
This was terrific. I can’t wait to see episode 4. Dialogue episode are hard to write, I wonder who’s going to be penning that one? BTW, Jared looks delicious.
My money would be on Robbie Thompson to write the script for Baby. And Jared looks delicious indeed!
Thanks for this Alice. I love how Jared tries so hard to articulate the intricacies of what’s going on in his brain, lol. I am cautiously optimistic about season 11. I have to say from hearing the interviews that I am more excited about this coming season than I have been in a few years.
Yeah, me too. I have loved what I have read from Comic Con regarding S11.
Thanks for this, Alice.
Hi Alice; thank you for posting this; will you be posting your other interviews, the ones you posted on your TVFTROU You Tube channel?
Someone posted the SPN Hall H session on You Tube; favorite moment had to be everyone hanging Jeremy Carver out to dry when someone from the audience asked why they killed Charlie and dumped her in a bath tub.
That was a great moment…. the questioner made it pretty clear that she was not happy about that.
Jeremy was not able to answer for her death; and was clearly having a difficult time. I think it was because there may not be any real answer and Jeremy is not adept at public speaking. I thought it was generous and thoughtful of Jensen to bail him out with an articulate response.
I also appreciated Jensen helping Jeremy out in that moment. I felt bad for him as you could clearly see he was really struggling. Although it was funny when at first the guys were teasing him by “taking a break”.
