Inside Man
{AG}SeasonTen/17-InsideMan{/AG}
So Sam, Cas and Guest Star have a seance. It seems to end in lots of fire. Dean is at a bar, holding a knife and eventually attacking a man. Rowena seems to be looking on approvingly. She also has a ton of tattoos that I don’t remember. Maybe she’s going to do a spell?
The press release says Bobby comes back. Do you think he is brought back by the seance? What is Rowena doing with Dean? Is Dean in control? Or is the Mark taking over and making him violent? What do you think? Any ideas from these pictures? Let us know in the comments.
The press release says Bobby comes back. Do you think he is brought back by the seance?
Yes, because in two of the pictures you can see Bobby’s hat. The scene looks very similar to 4.01 Lazarus Rising because of how the candles have flared etc.
Now I know from the xtended clip Dean flashes his pretty black peepers but how fortunate it was for his darker half that he coincidentally decided to wear his red shirt (aka DemonDean attire) that morning! Kismet!
Looks like Rowena hits Dean with a spell that brings DemonDean to the fore without Deans knowledge? Shades of Magnus’ attempt at taking Deans free will. Ooooh this could be delicious! Inside Man takes on another meaning!!! Really looking forward to this episode!
One way to make Winchesters a huge enemy is to take their free will so to speak. If Rowena uses him to something evil with a spell etc. she will be good as dead… Anyway, we will see where it goes but it might be what kicks Rowena’s character forward and if this happens I wonder what is Crowley’s take of it. 🙂
– Lilah
‘A huge enemy’ if ‘they take their free will’? Considering what happened in season 9 I find that terribly ironic!
agree.
Yes, especially if Dean offers up his free will on a silver plater.
It would be interesting to see Dean trying to unknowingly fight off her influence while he is still maintaining a semblance of control but once he starts to seriously lose his grip, DemonDean comes out to play for real and goes after she who holds the leash! Dead Rowena, off the rails MOC/DemonDean for the win! Bonus upset Crowley. In the xtended clip Rowena seems to think she can remove the curse of the MOC but she doesnt know about DemonDean and the “cure” – what if when she casts it that the prior cure attempt alters her spell reversing what Sam had accomplished and brings forth DemonDean. Or maybe she casts her spell and it fails due to the earlier cure but unbeknownst to her or Dean it reawakens the dormant DemonDean who will gradually take Dean over…
I was so not looking forward to this episode because of the Bobby Singer SuperBowl VII but I am now. So Inside Man being Bobby in Heaven, DemonDean in Dean – any others?
Well, they do find out something with Cas and Sam that makes them go get answers from you know who. What ever it is can’t wait to hear it. A lot is speculation because alas we don’t have the answers yet. That body tattoo spell seems kinda cool what ever it is. Hmmm.
– Lilah
Yeah the body tattoo spell is pretty cool – nice effect. I’m hoping they keep Jim B appearance to a minimun this episode. The last thing I want to see is Bobby being the Deus Ex Machina in Heaven. Like we didn’t get enough of that on earth? Sometimes you had to wonder how the boys were able to walk and chew gum at the same time. What could Bobby possibly know that could be that important. I like that they are using his hat for the seance tho!!! 🙂
There is a lot of things happening in the spoilers and the “tie ins” are missing. Those are what I want to know like asap. 🙂
Oh and Aly, hubby did it!
Here is the poster. Travis actually Favorited it in twitter. Machete brothers (”https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CBNLSkbW4AEhsIm.jpg:large”)
So awesome!!! Tell hubster great job! The Machete Brothers. Love it. Thanks!

I was so not looking forward to this episode because of the Bobby Singer SuperBowl VII but I am now. So Inside Man being Bobby in Heaven, DemonDean in Dean – any others?
Wait… suddenly Rowena can control Dean? Why? Crowley couldn’t. And nobody, and I mean NOBODY could control Cain, not for 2 millennia … so why does Rowena wield such power… a common witch? This is the kind of contrived plotting that makes me bat-shit crazy. There is zero basis for a plot development like this given what they’ve already established about the MoC. I hope to hell that this isn’t what is going on… or maybe that RB wrote it cause he is only one with the chops to make such a plot contrivance make any kind of sense.
Either that or Rowena’s foolish bid to try and control Dean causes him to squash her like a bug. Which in turn lights up Crowley’s dormant fire and ire, making him once again the Winchester nemesis that he’s supposed to be. Now THAT’S a plot I could get behind. Here’s to hoping its that…. not to Dean begin lead around by a common witch like a weak minded dog.
The writer is Andrew Dabb, so no Berens save. As AlyCat says, it LOOKS like Regina hits Dean with a spell to bring Dean to the forefront, but maybe he gives “consent”. There is a piece of dialog in the trailer where Regina says ‘It’s just a curse, like any other”. She may may offer to raise the curse, Dean may be desperate enough to try it and agree to what she does and then Surprise! Surprise! it brings out demon!Dean. At least I’d have the slight ironic satisfaction of Regina being able to look Sam and Dean in the face and say “he said yes”
Heh! Percys… that would be some nice poetic justice wouldn’t it? That’s what you get for keeping things from you brother Dean, an even bigger mess. Yeah, don’t let Sam help, he’s only your brother, he only has your best interests in mind… nah, don’t tell him. Go to a witch and trust she’s telling you the truth when she says she’ll help, just like that angel said he was telling the truth when he said he’d help too. You know, Dean needs to reevaluate who he’s putting his faith in these days…. first Gadreel, then Cain and now Rowena? It’s pretty hard to feel sorry for Dean when he’s been so dumb about his decision making lately. But yeah, Sam, your loyal loving brother who is willing to do just about anything, who’d give up his life to help you, who always has your best interests at heart is the very LAST person you should ask. Sheesh.
If Dean were to trust an evil witch, after trusting the Father of Murder and the King Of Hell, the writers could never again have him throw Ruby in Sam’s face unless they also had Sam then punching Dean silly.
Well Cuthbert/Magnus did use a spell/potion to control Dean when he gave him the Blade to begin with. And they did mention in the last episode that the MOL housed all the spells and potions of the witches. I don’t think Rowena will be able to take control of Dean until they probably stupidly take her to the bunker, she escapes (because everybody does) and gains control of the MOL and Dean. Possibly….
Yes, but that was before Dean had made his first kill. He’d only had the blade for a hot minute and didn’t even really know what it meant. Now Dean is a Knight of Hell (supposedly anyway, still not sure how that works because he’s no longer a demon) and should be impossible to control. Could you see Rowena trying one of her puny spells on Cain?
I just find it hard to believe that an entity such as the MoC, created by God (or Lucifer depending on which story you are following), before there was ever such thing as a witch, and wielded by Cain who was an unstoppable evil for over two thousand years can now suddenly be controlled by some 300 year old witch… whose presumably still human by the way. I don’t care how “powerful” she claims she is, she’s not in a league with Lucifer for crying out loud, or she shouldn’t be, by the writers own story elements. If she was that powerful then why would being banished by the stupid Grand Coven stop her in her bid for power over the years? If she’s that powerful then why didn’t she find Cain and try to control him hundreds of years ago? Hell, if she’s that powerful then why didn’t she know that her own son was King of Hell? The whole scenario makes zero sense to me and is become so convoluted it’s nearly impossible to follow.
Lucifer used spells too. He had Azazel (SP) kill a church full of nuns to open the door enough to communicate his directions to find Sam. He also slaughtered an entire town to raise Death. Both spells. That was why Rowena’s comment that it was just a spell kind of made sense. Magnus used very simple potion on Dean I am sure he had other potions and spells at his disposal. It really was just a possible theory on how witchcraft could possibly be used.
Yes but Cain himself was familiar with spells since he knew right away what Crowley had used to conjure the hologram of the boy in Executioner’s Song. So it seems unlikely, as E said, that Rowena, who spent how many years running from the grand coven, knows a spell powerful enough to get rid of the MOC. Maybe she lies to Dean about that, and the spell does something else entirely. All of this canon regarding the spells that almost everyone in SPN has used makes me wonder, at what point are you actually a witch? Why do you need to be a witch if essentially anyone can cast spells as long as they have the right ingredients? Even Sam and Dean were about to use a strong spell to kill those powerful witches in Shut Up Dr. Phil, except that they used the frozen chicken feet, rather than fresh ones. I”d kind of like TPTB to address this if they are in fact going to head down the witchcraft road.
Exactly.
And how squicky was Magnus with that spell that caused Dean to lose his will. I couldn’t help but think he had plans to control Dean for other purposes beyond just the MOC…
I dunno. Loop hole?
but how fortunate it was for his darker half that he coincidentally decided to wear his red shirt (aka DemonDean attire) that morning! Kismet!
Now why would Dean want to wear the same shirt he had on when he stalked and almost killed his brother? Maybe he doesn’t wear it in front of Sam but still.
I think he’s worn it since then. The shirt didnt do anything, why get rid of good clothing!?! Besides he looks great in it! Ask fandom. Didn’t he keep the checkered shirt that he wore when Sam was murdered and he made the Crossroad deal for him? I’m fairly certain I saw it on another ep or two after that. Maybe dormant DemonDean is keeping it around to remind him of good times? I rather think he enjoyed that cat and mouse after Sam used him as a pincushion.
I find it really weird that Dean would wear something that could remind Sam of what Dean did and said to him as a demon.
10.03 Soul Survivor
Dean: What did Sam say? Does he want a divorce?
Castiel: I’m sure Sam knows that whatever you said or what you did, it wasn’t really you. It certainly wasn’t all you.
Dean: I tried to kill him, Cas.
Castiel: Dean. You two have been through so much. Look, you’re brothers. It’d take a lot more than trying to kill Sam with a hammer to make him want to walk away.
Dean: You realize how screwed up our lives are that that even makes sense?
Dean asking about Sam shows that he was afraid that he had crossed a line, he was afraid that his relationship with Sam wouldn’t be able to recover from that.
The shirt didnt do anything, why get rid of good clothing!?! Besides he looks great in it! Ask fandom. Didn’t he keep the checkered shirt that he wore when Sam was murdered and he made the Crossroad deal for him?
The red shirt isn’t as innocuous as all of the other pieces of clothing that Dean has worn when bad things have happened. That shirt was demon Dean’s statement piece. It’s what he wore when his mindset was: “And what I’m gonna do to you, Sammy… Well, that ain’t gonna be mercy, either.” (10.02 Reichenbach)
But maybe Castiel’s reassurance has led Dean to think that Sam wouldn’t mind one bit if Dean looked like he did when he was a demon.
If Dean was worried about all that then neither piece of clothing would have ever seen the light of day again. They are grown men dealing with the supernatural and its oft times (and current) horrific effects on their lives. Do you really think they would put that much meaning into a shirt that was worn each time? In your scene you chose to quote, Deans talking about Sam rejecting him not his casual wear. Come to think of it, I haven’t seen Sam so much as flinch, cower in fear, let alone give out a “constipated sigh of manliness” (my daughters quote) anytime Dean has donned it since. So no, I don’t think so, you know?
Dean was afraid that Sam would leave. Why would he want to wear something that could be a reminder of the time he thought he had gone too far?
What Dean wore the day Sam died / the day he made a crossroads deal was just a plain old plaid shirt, something that Sam didn’t get to take a good look at / something that didn’t really register. But what Dean wore as a demon was different from his usual style and he intentionally behaved in ways that hurt Sam. Sam would certainly remember how Dean looked like at the time because Sam hadn’t seen him in weeks since Dean had died, it was the first time Sam interacted with Dean who used to be his brother but had turned into something else entirely and awful things were said and done to Sam by demon or not-so-demon Dean.
Is Dean really going to walk around like it’s no big deal that he looks like he did when he tried to kill Sam at the Bunker no less?
I don’t think there is any need for such exaggerations like whether or not Sam would “cower in fear” at the sight of the shirt. My question is why would Dean risk evoking bad memories in Sam when Sam sees what Dean decided to put on.
Apparently it’s not that much of a concern to either of them considering how many times he’s worn it since the cat and mouse in the bunker. Let’s face it, if the boys got rid of every clothing item they associated with bad times, they be running around naked. Which I could live with…
Regarding Dean and the red shirt – Dean threw away the Samulet; he said one sentence to Cas about breaking the wall in Sam’s head in “The Born-Again Identity;” he said nothing to Cole about kidnapping, torturing, and threatening to kill his brother; he has verbally danced around “I’m sorry” and “thank you” regarding Gadreel’s possession of Sam and Sam’s performing the demon curing ritual, but he has not actually said either. (I know, Sam stopped him both times.) Dean is not going to associate trying to kill Sam with that shirt.
I love Dean, but I an really frustrated with this storyline. One thing that I have determined, Sam may not need to hear Dean say, “I’m sorry” or “thank you” but I did need to hear him say it to his brother.
Regarding Rowena’s tattoos – Doesn’t the clip show her painting those on her body?
Aye, she was. 🙂
– Lilah
And she did such a good job too!!! Why, did you notice the crispness of those lines? She could do that professionally…
I understand peoples frustration with storylines… but why does almost every thread have to come back to the same old Dean had Sam possessed now he knows how it feels, Deans a hypocrite, apologies must be made to Sam…ad nauseum? There are two sides to this story but all I ever see is the one. Isn’t there a point where it’s just boring to rehash the same thing over and over? It seems like more often than not no matter what the subject is it gets unnecessarily tied back to that. At this point I’m so familiar with it, I could write out the diatribes against Dean for you. Second verse same as the first, you know?
Sorry Lilah the second paragraph wasn’t directed at you! More of a frustrated comment to the board in general.
No worries. I know that was not for me because well. I don’t do that. 🙂
– Lilah
I was out of bounds. I apologize… It’s just frustrating to have discussion on this board without seeing those comments repeatedly posted. I try and have conversations dealing with the here and now as much as possible and leave the bashing to others, I just don’t see the point.
Unfortunately it is part of the fandom. I lurk on other websites and I see the comments from those that are just as unhappy as the posters here. I post on IMDB as well but I don’t participate in those kinds of conversations and I have found that if I just want to talk about the episode there are those that want to discuss it as well, just like it is here. If you don’t want to participate in the conversations of some that have strong opinions don’t. There are plenty of us that just want to discuss the show.
Thanks for your kind words. I think I was just letting some comments get under my skin when I know better. I’m particularly vexed with the way fandom has reacted to Travis A Wade and his choice for his character to use the nicknames. His choice which was green lighted. Like how dare he do his job. People just have a way of carrying things to the extreme and being so self entitled. A lot of the things that are being said about him are so uncalled for. Same for Misha. Thanks for letting me get it off my chest and understanding where I was coming from.
I had no problem with Cole using the nicknames, it seemed in keeping with his cocky character. I just fully expected Sam to say “only he can call me that.”:)
He can call them Humpty and Dumpty for all I care the meaning of ‘Sammy’ is not the same as it was anyway .My issue where Cole is concerned was something different.
He may yet! 🙂
You are my source for this type of scuttlebutt- who is saying what about Misha? I thought he had almost the biggest fan following of them all.
It runs the gamut. You name it. I added him as an afterthought to my comment because I’m sick of reading the snide remarks about how he can’t act… that was just bothering me at that moment because I’ve been seeing it a lot lately.
Hi Paladin teacher, firstly I want to tell you I agree with all your points and as the problem never gets fixed, who knows, mentioning it regularly may possibly eventually get it noticed by the PTB (though after 2.5 seasons of this I am not holding my breath). At the very least it makes us feel a bit better right? Secondly (I just looked back over your comments) as this is the first time you have voiced them (and all of your comments have been interesting) I hope you don’t pay any attention to comments trying to limit your storyline-issue commentary. You are as entitled to your opinion as anyone. I ignore comments that I don’t feel like engaging with. Hopefully other people will try to do the same.
