CW Upfronts: The Flash Joins Supernatural on Tuesdays, New Spinoff for SPN
Today is the big upfront presentation day for The CW and as usual, it all kicks off with an early morning conference call and press release sharing the new fall schedule from CW President Mark Pedowitz.
We knew that either The Originals or Supernatural would be moving to Mondays. We also knew that Supernatural was the only other show aside from Arrow that would be a perfect pairing with The Flash. Well it’s official, it’s The Originals that moves to Monday, and The Flash will join Supernatural on Tuesdays.
Many have been concerned that ABC’s move of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” to Tuesdays at 9pm on ABC might be too much competition with “Supernatural.” The pairing with “The Flash” makes all the difference, because “Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D’s” lead in of two new comedies is much weaker. Something tells me that “Supernatural” will get more live viewers while AOS will get the DVR/VOD crowd.
Pedowitz in his conference call this morning also talked about the failed “Supernatural” spinoff, “Bloodlines” and how he’s still committed to expanding the “Supernatural” brand. He said about “Bloodlines,” “…we felt it didn’t get there…they know we want to develop another spinoff next season.” What that spinoff will be hasn’t been discussed yet, but that should start happening in June or July.
Finally, here’s the official description for Supernatural Season 10! No spoilers, don’t worry:
9:00-10:00 P.M. “Supernatural”
The thrilling and terrifying journey of the Winchester brothers continues as SUPERNATURAL enters its tenth season. Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) have spent their lives on the road, battling every kind of supernatural threat. Over the years, after dozens of bloody adventures, they have faced everything from the yellow-eyed demon that killed their mother to vampires, ghosts, shapeshifters, angels and fallen gods. They even came face to face with Lucifer and the Four Horsemen in averting the Apocalypse. With the help of allies — both human and supernatural — they’ve discovered that every threat they vanquish opens a new door for evil to enter in. In the show’s ninth season, after failing to close the gates of Hell, Sam and Dean were faced with the consequences of the decisions they made in the interest of saving each other. Castiel continued to Face Off against Metatron in a battle to restore order while Crowley, engaged in his own power struggle, made an uneasy alliance with Dean to finally end Abbadon. When the dust settles, if the dust settles, who will be left standing? And what side will they stand for? SUPERNATURAL is from Warner Bros. Television in association with Wonderland Sound and Vision, with executive producers Robert Singer (“Midnight Caller”), Jeremy Carver (“Being Human”), Phil Sgriccia and Adam Glass.
Wait people are worried about AOS really? that show pretty much is dead, I would have been more worried with NCIS LA being kept at 9pm on Tuesday’s and Scandal moving to Tuesdays at 9pm than I am about AOS. NCIS NO and AOS so not worried about SPN we had tougher competition way in the past think Grey’s and CSI back in the day, we will be fine.
I like Agents of SHIELD, but I love Supernatural. So, for me, it will Supernatural “live” and AOS on DVD.
