TV Fanatic Roundtable – Supernatural 9.21 – “King of The Damned”
It’s getting down to the wire! “King of the Damned” was a return to action and overall we got a pretty entertaining hour. Myself and Sean McKenna and Carissa Pavlica of TV Fanatic all thought the episode was good, but we all still have concerns about the brotherly relationship. You can read it all at our weekly roundtable over at TV Fanatic:

Also, here’s Sean’s review of the episode. He gave it a 4.3 out of 5.0, but was rather surprised by Abaddon’s quick demise.

I did have a problem with the kill scene. It was so over the top. Other than that (and the usual overload of information we always get with episode 21) it was a decent episode that set up the final two. Dean is so going to be the next ruler of Hell if Sam doesn’t get a handle on the situation like right now.
I agree with much of you said here Alice. Gadreel is a goner, most likely during an act of redemption. The theme of brotherly conflict that the writers/ showrunners seem intent on recycling every year. Every time I watch an episode or a music video that use images of the earlier years my heart hurts a little. It is not a bad show, it is still a great show but something has been lost that I mourn for. I do think we are headed (too slowly) in a direction that will ultimately bring the brothers to a better place but dysfunction and all, I miss the boys who would do absolutely anything for the other.
Cheryl, that scene was brutal but I think it was to show how savage Dean is becoming. It was a huge exclamation point on his state of mind.
There is a description in fanfic (Sam’s Journal) that described that scene perfectly. Dean didn’t just kill Abaddon he slaughtered her. And the look on Dean’s face when Sam talked him down was horrified at what he had just done. How quickly that changed. Dean is becoming Purgatory Dean on steroids.
