Press Release: Random Acts’ Annual Melee of Kindness
Here’s an inspiring press release I got from random acts a few weeks ago, right around the time our site was down for a few days. My apologies for the lateness, but it is a pretty cool thing that happened!
Donate almost 4,300 hours to helping others in a single weekend
Throughout the weekend of March 1, 2014, hundreds of individuals took part in Random Acts’ AMOK event. The Annual Melee of Kindness is a global day of kindness, where supporters across the globe spend a single day performing kind deeds for people in their local area or community.
Participants submitted their AMOK actions to Random Acts. 310 acts performed by 859 participants have been completed. This amounts to 4,292 hours donated to charity during AMOK. Specific actions taken by AMOKers include:
- Delivering cookies to a local firehouse, performed by Jessie, Zoe and Chloe Chapman-King (@zoewillowsmama)

Misha Collins, known as the angel Castiel on The CW’s Supernatural, the co-founder of the organization, led a group in Los Angeles, where Random Acts supporters had collected backpacks full of useful items and distributed them to individuals in need. A video featuring many of the activities performed for kindness, including Collins’, is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0Y9qC95pNA&feature=youtu.be
Executive Director of Random Acts, Cinde Monsam, stated, “AMOK has been such an incredible event since it’s inception in 2012. Each year we have seen an increase in the number of participants from around the world. Their enthusiasm and creativity for developing just the right AMOK event(s) for their community is always so inspiring. This is an event I look forward to every year and based on the feedback we’ve received it is one our supporters eagerly mark on their calendars as well.”
About Random Acts
On December 3, 2009, Misha Collins, the angel Castiel on The CW’s Supernatural, used Twitter to ask his followers (affectionately known as his “minions”) to come up with ideas for a “minion stimulus” project. This idea morphed into Random Acts, a Division of The Art Department, Inc. Random Acts seeks to conquer the world one random act of kindness at a time. Run by an all-volunteer staff, we encourage participation by constituents around the globe. We offer a network of tools to help in completing acts of kindness including funding opportunities for projects, awards to recognize excellence in the community and large fundraising campaigns such as Hope 2 Haiti that help to meet the most basic needs of indigent populations.
Misha truly is an angel isn’t he.
