Official Synopsis for Supernatural 9.17 “Mother’s Little Helper”
The CW has released the official synopsis for 9.17 Mother’s Little Helper
“Mother’s Little Helper” — TUESDAY, MARCH 25 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET)
MISHA COLLINS MAKES HIS DIRECTING DEBUT — Dean (Jensen Ackles) struggles with the after effects of the Mark of Cain. Meanwhile, Sam (Jared Padalecki) hears about a case where straight-laced people are turning into violent murderers. Sam suspects possession and suggests to Dean that they investigate, but Dean tells him to go without him. While interviewing the local townsfolk, Sam meets an elderly woman named Julia (guest star Jenny O’Hara), who tells him the Men of Letters came to town in 1958. Julia tells Sam the story of a young man named Henry Winchester (guest star Gil McKinney) and his female companion, Josie Sands (guest star Alaina Huffman). While Sam is away, Crowley (Mark Sheppard) tests Dean. Misha Collins directed the episode written by Adam Glass (#917).
So we finally get Misha’s directing debut. I’m interested to see Henry and Josie again. I wonder if she’s Josie still or if Abaddon has already possessed her.
Gaaaah I see what they’re doing (what I assumed they were going to do, but anyway)! Since the upcoming epi was switched in order with #Thinman, there’ll be no motion on the Great Big Honking Fight, from which Sam is currently half-thawed. So they’ll still be in a fight when Dean’s switch flips and he goes Vader. Which will be all manner of hawt, but I just know they’ll finally have Sam melt that episode, but too late for Dean.
That said, hopefully this will allay our worst case scenario fears of Dean’s dark arc (and estrangement from Sam) stretching through all next season. I suppose it could still happen, but if it’s kicking off now, I doubt the writers would be brave/crazy/stupid enough to stretch it out THAT long. Which means, likely, that Dean will be super-hot-dark till the finale, when Sam will “disarm the nuke” with The Power of Brotherly Love.

Great,
first a week hiatus and the description gives out what happens in the episode before this. (That I am dying to see). Blade Runners and this… Can’t wait!

I’m totally psyched to see both 9-16 and 9-17. Can’t wait for the Dark!Dean arc to get off the ground, wonder how far they’ll take it,

Oh oh! Supernatural.tv just posted a series of tweets indicating that #Thinman and the blade episode are indeed in the “right” order, but were filmed in reverse due to “logistics” (guest actor availability, presumably).
That does change my above speculations, which assumed there’d be little to no development on the Big Honking Fight, which I’m assuming will tie into the MoC arc quite a bit. Anyone’s guess now how that will develop, but my guess is that even if things improve between them, the fight will remain unresolved going into 9.17, as Dean has to be sufficiently low on Give-a-Damn to go dark.
