It’s Official! Supernatural Renewed For Season 10
The CW has announced the renewal of five series. We’re a go for another season! YAY! And congratulations to the cast and crew!
“This season we’ve had great success with our new hit series The Originals paired with Supernatural, giving us our best Tuesday nights in years,” said CW prez Mark Pedowitz in a statement. “The Vampire Diaries is No. 2 in its time period in the young adult demos, and with Arrow continuing to gain among young men, and Reign growing its time period, we now have strong nights on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I’m very pleased to announce early pickups for all five series, and let our fans know they’ll have more great drama to look forward to next season.”
The CW says a press release will be released later! See below.
Here’s a couple of tweets from Jared!

And, theres already a season 10 storyline: Sam and Dean check into a retirement home, and NOT because it’s haunted! #toooldforthis!

(From Alice – I’ll have to check, but I think February 13th is a new early renewal record for earliest date. It also means that Supernatural is assured of it’s 200th episode, which is a major, major feat for any show. Congrats to Arrow and The Originals too, shows we cover at our sister site TV For The Rest of Us.)
ETA: Here’s that promised press release:

This is awesome. I selfishly hoped Revolution wasn’t coming back so we could reclaim a certain writer…

Season 10!!!! Our “little” show that could is going for a decade 🙂 I’m so happy!!!! Is just… it’s not only how much it has affected us as fans, changed our lives and make them so much brighter, it’s how much the boys have grown up, just as the rest of the cast ad crew, the happy marriages, the lives that now exist because a show that aired on 2005 was so awesome that we made stay with us 🙂 And now we’re officially gonna make it to 10 years, to the 200 ep! I’m just so happy for Supernatural!!

Huzzah. 200 EPISODES!!! That puts them is a VERY special club! Well done cast and crew–especially J2.
Sidenote: Think TVD is enjoying not having to compete against “30 Rock” and “The Office?” … Just wondering Thursday night is a hard sell among 18-23 as it being synonymous with college night drink specials.

BEST NEWS!!!!! S10! Wow – we hit double digits — who would have thought it back in Seaons 2 or 3 when SPN was on the bubble and dependent on Dawn Ostroff for renewal crumbs?
I do think this is the earliest we’ve heard the news but not by much. I think February 16th was the earliest before now.

The really great thing is that with next season we will tie Smallville and Stargate SG-1 as the longest running Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror show in US television history. If we go through season 11 we will become the longest running genre show period. I have read that if we get 23 episodes we will tie Smallville with 218. Stargate had 214 episodes and 2 movies to end with 216, so we can beat them in episode count this year. Really impressive for our little show that could.

That is really good news! I have, on occasion, had an issue or two with the show in recent years but after almost a decade I can’t imagine not looking forward to the next episode. And percysowner, it would be really great to make those milestones. For all the hardworking people associated with the show. A nice legacy when all is said and done.

I don’t think I need all three guesses. 🙂

Really?? I’ve been feeling vaguely concerned that the plot elements that so many fans have been finding so challenging may have been part of a story arc planned to conclude season 10 (and the series).

It can be the end of the arc in season 10, as it was the end of an arc in season 5. They can extend it to another arc / mini arc if they want you. I guess all depend on the Js (their contracts is till S10), and the ratings (which is great so far).

I think I remember Carver saying he was starting an arc that would wrap in three seasons but which could also go longer once the main part of it was wrapped. So I think continuing won’t be a problem. It may just mean that neither boy will end up in a situation that they shouldn’t be be able to be rescued from. in the end, there are plenty of monsters even if Heaven and Hell get straightened out.

I am happy to hear we get a season 10. And this time it is not only for another season but also for episode 200.
What an achivement. We will enter the special 200 episode list
Since I remember the crazyness ahead of episode 100 and the party and the special things in episode 100 (like Roomnumber 100) I am really looking forward to the things to come.
